Chapter 145 - Chapter 38: Capturing Wormtail (Part 1)

Vid usually doesn't pay much attention to the names above people's heads, as it gives him a sense of detachment, as if he's in a game world.

So he's gotten used to treating names as part of the hair, and thus ignores them.

But at this moment, he still glanced at the name above the girl's head.

[Luna Lovegood].

As expected, it was her.

This girl didn't quite resemble the elf-like beauty in the movies. Her appearance wasn't particularly striking, but her unique aura was very noticeable.

Luna wrapped herself in a blanket, sitting up dazedly, looking at Vid without speaking.

Vid walked over and asked, "Are you a first-year student? It's so late, why aren't you sleeping in your dormitory?"

The blonde girl stared at Vid with her bulging eyes, not blinking for a long time, giving off a very strange feeling.

After a while, she slowly said, "I lost my book, came to look for it... couldn't find it... the dormitory door is locked."

"Didn't you knock? Or did your roommates not let you in?" Vid asked with a frown.

"What does it matter?"

Luna lay back down, pulled the blanket up to her eyes, and said calmly, "The door will open in the morning anyway."

She was so forthright that if Vid intervened, it'd seem like he was meddling.

He asked again, "What's your name, and what book did you lose?"

The little girl's eyes pierced through the darkness, looking at him, she asked, "Are you going to help me find it?"

"If it's not too much trouble."

She seemed to think about something, and after a while, said, "My name is Luna Lovegood. Some call me the crazy girl. I lost my 'Magic History'."

Vid waved his magic wand and clearly said, "Luna's 'Magic History', fly here!"

A book suddenly flew out from between the sofa cushions, landing directly in Vid's hand. He placed it beside the young girl.

"Wow—"

Luna let out a soft exclamation, remained silent for a few seconds, and then as if just remembering, said, "Thank you."

"If you need help, you can find me... I'm Vid Gray, a second-year."

Vid finished speaking, grabbed his backpack and returned to his dormitory.

Even though Luna was sleeping alone in the common room at night, Vid wasn't worried about her safety.

The house-elves cleaning were usually working in the common room at night, and the portraits on the walls, along with the ghosts moving through the common room, were not just for decoration.

...

By the time Vid got up in the morning, Luna was no longer on the sofa.

The rainstorm raged on all night and hadn't stopped by morning. The rain pattered against the windows, streams of water flowed down the glass.

The pitch was flooded a foot deep, and Hagrid's animals were huddled in their sheds.

Students couldn't go play escapology games, many pressed their faces against the windows, eagerly watching the sky, hoping the rain would stop soon.

But the rain continued for several days.

"If only I could use the Atmospheri Charm," Michael, immersed in games, said dejectedly, "I could make it stop raining whenever I wanted."

Finally reaching the weekend, but being stuck in the castle because of the heavy rain was simply too cruel for the young wizards addicted to games.

Michael was still making wishes, while Harry and Hermione had already gone to the library to look up magical books on the Atmospheri Charm.

During these days, Vid's Veritaserum was finally ready.

The clear, transparent liquid was stored in a crystal bottle, resembling clear water.

He took out the Marauder's Map to reconfirm Peter Pettigrew's location.

The rat continued to stay in Ron's dormitory as usual.

Sometimes it would go out for a walk, wandering around the corners of the castle. The first time Vid couldn't find him on the map, he was worried that Peter might cause trouble.

Later he found out the person was just bored of staying in the dormitory and went out for a run.

Even as a rat, Peter was always avoiding crowds, as well as student's pet cats and owls, sneaking around.

Recently, Ron had gone to participate in the escape game, and Peter would often follow him, even reportedly helping Ron scratch his opponent once.

During dinner, Ron sat at the long table and praised his rat greatly, calling it a "valiant hero."

Vid once thought about whether to trade this rat with Ron using a new magic wand or Galleons. But after careful consideration, he dismissed the idea.

Ron's magic wand hadn't broken yet, even though the unicorn hair was exposed, it could still be used normally. He was indeed short of money, but it didn't necessarily mean he would sell his rat for it.

He's someone with many flaws, but also stubborn and emotional, maybe he considers the rat as his family and wouldn't easily let it go.

This could alarm the snake and make Peter Pettigrew wary. If that guy escaped from school and hid in a Muggle city or countryside, Vid really wouldn't know how to find him.

The operation to capture Peter Pettigrew had to be foolproof.

Possibly because of the rain, students stayed in their dormitories and common room all day long, and Peter Pettigrew hadn't secretly slipped out for several days.

Vid put away the map and the Veritaserum, took out the Friendship Book, and sent messages to several people consecutively. After discussing things clearly, he stepped out of the Room of Requirement.

The corridor was empty, and it wasn't until he reached the fifth floor that he saw the Weasley Twins he had arranged to meet in advance.

Upon seeing him approach, the twins immediately covered their ears with both hands and shouted loudly, "Look, Vid!"

They covered for a while, then suddenly let go of their hands, and a large puff of white smoke drifted towards the ceiling.

George creatively pinched his fingers, and irregular circular smoke rings bubbled up like bubbles in water.

Despite the rainy weather recently, Gryffindor's Quidditch team hadn't stopped training.

To avoid catching colds, they would all take a small sip of Energizing Potion after practice, the price being their ears smoking for a while afterward.

Harry was quite embarrassed about it, as he had been snapped by Colin Creevey with steam locomotive-like photos. But the twins enjoyed it, even developing a new smoke ring performance.

"Look, we can even do this!"

Fred covered his ears again for a while, then released a large puff of white smoke, blew into it, forming a hollow smoke ring.

George waved his magic wand, conjured a bubble, trapped the smoke ring inside, and finally held it above his head, asking, "Doesn't it look like a papal coronation?"

"Yes, very much so, hahaha..."

Fred laughed heartily, clutching his stomach.

Vid, infected by their light-hearted atmosphere, couldn't help but laugh out loud as well.

After a round of joking, Vid asked, "Fred, George, have you used the Marauder's Map to look at Ron's dormitory?"
