The hand that covered my mouth was rough, pressing hard enough to make breathing difficult. I froze, my heart pounding so hard I could hear it echo in my ears. His scent hit me first, it was strong, bitter, and sharp.
My uncle. What was my uncle doing in my room?
The reality of what the answer possibly was made every hair on my skin to stand. Varyn was a lot of things—wicked, vile, nasty but I wouldn't put it past him to try and rape his own niece.
"Shh," he hissed close to my ear. His breath was hot against my skin, and his tone low and cruel.
"You've caused quite a scene tonight, haven't you?"
I tried to pull away, but his grip tightened. Panic shot through me, it was so cold and paralyzing. Nothing like anything I had felt before.
My mind was running wild. Why was he here? Why in my room?
He pushed the door shut with his boot and locked it. The click of the bolt made my stomach twist. Oh God, please no.
