Vivian's POV
The harsh buzz of my phone cut through the silence like a blade. I glanced down at the screen, my stomach twisting as I read Abby's latest message.
'Stop being such a coward and call me back already.'
My fingers tightened around the device. Classic Abby. Always knowing exactly which buttons to push. I was tempted to toss the phone across the room when another text popped up.
'Fine, ignore me then. But don't come crying when you find out what happened. I actually need you this time.'
Heat flared in my chest. The manipulation was so transparent it almost made me laugh. Almost. Because buried beneath my anger was that familiar knot of worry that she always managed to plant there.
My phone buzzed again in my palm.
