Chapter 27 - Master Businessman

In all honesty, Illya had no idea what he was doing.

The only real experience that the young Void Hunter had with business was beefing with T.O.P., and the only thing that he'd learned through that feud was how to blackmail and threaten corporate executives.

That experience didn't translate well to traditional business, and his glaring lack of both decorum and experience was quite clear.

However

What Illya lacked was more than made up for by the sheer size of his assets.

"That card has access to an account with about 50 billion Dennies- and before you ask, it's all clean money."

Illya reached into his briefcase and pulled out a few documents, placing them gently on the table as proof of his statement.

Koleda read through them quickly, her brow furrowing as her expression contorted with contemplation.

"Hah~ While everything seems to be legitimate, I still do have a few concerns."

Illya flashed her a businesslike smile.

"Like what?"

Koleda set down the papers and sighed as she arched forward, fixing her single eye on Illya's face.

"The funds that you're providing are more than sufficient for a project like this- I just don't understand why someone would pour so much money into an area that has zero value. Nobody would want to move back into an area that was destroyed by a hollow, much less one of that size- and if your goal is to sell properties on the reconstructed Sixteenth Street, I'd advise you to take your funds and invest elsewhere."

Koleda continued.

"Belobog would be more than happy to take on this project if you still wish to proceed- but I cannot in good conscience recommend you continue with this when it's almost guaranteed to be a loss for you."

Illya paused for a moment before responding- a bit of sincerity bleeding into his voice.

"While I appreciate your consideration, I still wish to proceed."

Koleda sighed.

"Well, alrighty then. If you're dead set on this, Belobog Heavy Industries would be happy to accept this project."

The petite leader of Belobog jumped to her feet and extended her hand.

Illya accepted it, and the two shook hands.

"It was a pleasure meeting you. I look forward to your work."

Koleda responded with a light smile.

"Likewise."

The two broke the handshake.

"We'll send a specialist to Sixteenth within the next few days to assess the area, and then we'll call you back to discuss a reasonable deadline."

Illya nodded.

"Then I'll wait for your message."

As soon as Illya left, the smile tugging at the corner of Koleda's lips fell.

Sure, she was happy that she had managed to secure such a large commission, one worth literal Billions of Dennies, but that didn't change the fact that Belobog Heavy Industries was currently in a bit of a pickle.

Koleda took out her phone and dialed the number of her current on-site project manager.

"Hey, boss, what's up?"

Anton's energetic tone carried over the line, the faint sounds of a car engine echoing in the background.

Hearing his voice, Koleda couldn't help but let out a small sigh as she glanced at the documents before her.

"Anton, have you met with the Proxy's yet?"

"Not yet! I'm on my way to meet them now, though!"

Koleda nodded silently.

"That's good. At least we have a bit of time to change the commission details..."

"Huh? Did something happen, boss?"

"Yep. Some rich dude came in and offered us a multi-billion-Dennie job."

"Hold up, boss- Did you just say billion?!"

Koleda leaned back in her chair with a slight smile on her face.

"Yeah, pretty crazy, right? We just landed the gig with the old metro lines, and now we've been contracted to rebuild a whole street."

"WOAAAAH! That's amazing news!! Did you tell Grace and Ben yet?"

Koleda put the phone on speaker as she began running through the documents again.

"Nope, not yet. The employer literally just left my office a few minutes ago."

"Huh? Really? So then, what did you need from me?"

Pulling out a pen and a few sheets of empty paper, Koleda spoke once more.

"Now that we've got two jobs to worry about, we need to resolve that machine issue ASAP. I wanted to talk to the Proxy's and ask if they were okay with the deadline for the commission being moved up a bit."

"Oh, ok! Do you just need me to bring them over, then?"

Koleda took out a file containing the details of the commission, using it as a point of reference as she began writing some things down on the paper.

"Yeah, that'd be great. Also, if they decide to drop the commission or don't feel comfortable meeting in person, just shoot me a quick call."

"Got it, boss!"

"Thanks, Anton. I'll talk to you in a bit."

Koleda hung up the phone as she finished up a brief draft of the revised commission, dialing in a new number as she put down the pen.

The phone rang for a few seconds before the line connected.

"Yes, Boss?"

"Hey, Ben, would you be able to come up to the office for a bit? I just need you to check over something really quickly."

"Oh, of course. I'll be there in a few minutes."

Koleda stretched for a moment as she chatted with her burly Head of Finance.

"Oh, by the way, Ben- Would you be able to grab Grace on your way here? I have some news I need to tell you guys."

"Uh, sure, boss. It might take a while, though... You know how Grace gets with machines."

Koleda let out a sigh.

"Just drag her up here if you need to. It's something important."

"Alright, boss. Just give me a few minutes, then~"

"Mm. I'll see you guys in a few."

I kind of feel like I got lobotomized, and literally could not sit down and write anything coherent for the past few days.

Sorry for the delays gng.)
