Chapter 244: Arrogant New Student
The next morning, with the help of the infiltration experts, the two brothers Hiyage and Tsukikage, Yūga Hōzumi went out sporting a Jellyfish-Head Wig. This wig was something he had obtained from the system's daily lottery. Since he was participating in the Duel Academy's enrollment exam, he might as well change to a more fitting hairstyle.
After Yūga Hōzumi arrived at the enrollment venue and obtained the exam procedures, he couldn't help but frown.
"An exam this complicated?" Yūga Hōzumi felt a headache coming on. "The written exam is fine, I can understand that, but the practical test is actually a damn elimination match? My deck can only be used five times!"
"It seems I'll have to think of another way to pass this exam," Yūga Hōzumi mused.
When it came to registration, Yūga Hōzumi casually filled in "Yuki Judai" on the registration form, inserted the fake identity card the Ninja Brothers had worked through the night to create into the machine, and after filling in "Tribute Summon" in the Proficient Summoning Method section, he successfully obtained his qualification for the written exam.
At 10 AM, Yūga Hōzumi entered the exam room. After getting the exam paper, he casually drew a pig's head on it before lying down to sleep. This was Yūga Hōzumi's plan. If he were to take the exam following the normal procedure, his Floowandereeze deck, with its five-use limit, definitely wouldn't last until he passed the practical test. It would be better to be a bit unconventional and directly challenge the teacher presiding over the exam, just like the true owner of the name Yūga Hōzumi was currently using.
Two hours later, Yūga Hōzumi slowly woke up, handed in the exam paper with a large pig's head drawn on it, and swaggered to the practical test exam room.
It must be said, the Academy truly lives up to its reputation as the Fusion Dimension's only higher dueling institution. Even for just an enrollment assessment, the fields used were all dedicated, top-spec venues.
Yūga Hōzumi was among the later arrivals. When he got there, the elimination match was in full swing.
After Yūga Hōzumi casually watched a few duels, the expected roar rang out in the assembly hall.
"Who is Yuki Judai?" The voice belonged to what sounded like a balding, middle-aged man.
Yūga Hōzumi nonchalantly picked his ear, then raised his hand. "Here, here!"
Not long after, an enraged, bald middle-aged man came before Yūga Hōzumi, holding the exam paper with a pig's head drawn on it in his hand, and questioned him.
"What do you mean by this? Why are you here to cause trouble!"
"Cause trouble?" Yūga Hōzumi grinned arrogantly. "I wouldn't say that. I just don't want to waste my precious brain cells on useless things like this."
"Kid, you're very arrogant, aren't you?" The bald man narrowed his eyes, staring fiercely at Yūga Hōzumi as he spoke.
"What I said isn't wrong, is it? What's the use of theory? As long as you're strong enough, that's all that matters," Yūga Hōzumi said nonchalantly, shrugging.
The commotion was quite noticeable, and more and more people cast their gazes over, constantly pointing and whispering.
"That newcomer has quite some guts, to actually dare to speak like that to Director Crowler," a certain senior student from the Academy whispered to his companions.
"What's wrong, senior? Is this bald uncle very strong?" an examinee asked the person who had just spoken.
"Director Crowler was once a professional duelist. After retiring, he came to teach at the Academy. His classes at the Academy are infamous, earning the nickname 'Hell Training'," that senior student explained. "Furthermore, Director Crowler hates this kind of high-profile person the most. This kid is finished."
"You can leave. The Academy does not need students like you," Crowler said to Yūga Hōzumi, suppressing his anger.
"Oh, really? But I haven't started the practical test yet, have I?" Yūga Hōzumi said indifferently. "And the rules I saw in the admissions prospectus state that even if I get 0 points on the written exam, I'm still qualified to participate in the practical test, right?"
Professor Crowler was stunned. It seemed there really was such a regulation. The written exam was worth 40 points and the practical test 60; as long as the total score reached 60, one was qualified to enroll.
"You're very confident you can get a perfect score in the practical test?" Crowler asked, narrowing his eyes.
"I lack everything except confidence." Facing Crowler's oppressive aura, Yūga Hōzumi remained calm and composed. He could even chat and laugh easily with Ryo Marufuji, so why would he be afraid of a teacher from the Academy?
"I will not let someone like you enter the Academy," Crowler said. "Because I have decided that I will personally be your opponent for the assessment."
As soon as Crowler said this, the entire assembly hall fell silent.
"Did I hear that right?" several senior students said in disbelief. "Professor Crowler is going to personally conduct the assessment?"
"This kid no longer has any hope of entering the Academy," another senior student said, looking at Yūga Hōzumi and reaching a conclusion.
"Alright," Yūga Hōzumi said, smiling brightly. The plan was a success.
...
A few minutes later, on the Duel Field in the center of the assembly hall, Yūga Hōzumi and Professor Crowler stood on opposite sides.
"Perhaps you were a genius in your hometown, but the Academy has no shortage of geniuses, especially ones like you who recklessly rely on their talent. You are not qualified to enter the Academy," Crowler said.
"Oh, really? Whether I'm qualified or not, we'll only know after we duel," Yūga Hōzumi said with a smile.
"Proficient Summoning Method is Tribute Summon?" Crowler asked, pulling up Yūga Hōzumi's registration form. "For someone who can't even master the noble Fusion Summon, I truly don't know what makes you so confident."
"Can we start?" Yūga Hōzumi urged.
"Duel!" ×2
"My turn!" Yūga Hōzumi took the first turn.
"I activate the Field Spell, Floowandereeze and the Mysterious Map!"
"I activate the effect of my Field Spell! During my Main Phase, I can reveal a Level 1 'Floowandereeze' monster from my hand and banish a 'Floowandereeze' card with a different name from my Deck. Afterwards, I can summon the monster I revealed."
"I reveal Floowandereeze & Robina from my hand and banish Floowandereeze & Eglen from my Deck. Then, I Normal Summon the revealed monster."
"Appear! Floowandereeze & Robina!"
"I activate the effect of the banished Floowandereeze & Eglen! Once per turn, while this card is banished, if I summon a Winged-Beast monster, I can add this card to my hand."
"I activate Floowandereeze & Robina's effect! When this card is Normal Summoned, I can add one Level 4 or lower Winged-Beast monster from my Deck to my hand, then I can summon one Winged-Beast monster."
"I add Floowandereeze & Stri from my Deck to my hand, then I Normal Summon Floowandereeze & Eglen from my hand!"
"Appear! Floowandereeze & Eglen!"
A gentle breeze swept past, and cute little birds appeared one after another on Yūga Hōzumi's field.
"Upon its successful summon, I activate Eglen's effect! I can add one Level 7 or higher Winged-Beast monster from my Deck to my hand, and then I can summon one Winged-Beast monster."
"From my Deck, I add the Level 7 Floowandereeze & Empen to my hand! Next, I tribute the two monsters on my field to Tribute Summon Floowandereeze & Empen!"
