Chapter 2: The Morning After

The morning sun was merciless. It streamed through the curtains, golden and cruel, burning away the comfort of darkness that had hidden her guilt.

Betty stood by the window, her fingers clutching the thin fabric of her blouse, her mind replaying every second of last night.

The rain had washed the streets clean, but it couldn't wash her mistake away.

Her phone buzzed again.

A new message — not from Ethan this time, but from Daniel.

> Daniel: "Last night was unforgettable. Let's do it again sometime."

Betty's heart twisted painfully.

She didn't reply. She couldn't.

What had she done?

Ethan's face flashed in her mind — the way his voice broke, the pain in his eyes, the love that had once been hers. And now, all of it was gone.

By noon, she was back at her small apartment. The walls felt closer than usual, like they were judging her too. Her best friend, Amelia, had already called twice. Betty ignored both times, but on the third, she picked up.

> Amelia: "Betty, what happened? You left the studio crying yesterday. Ethan's been calling me—"

Betty (quietly): "He won't call anymore. It's over."

> Betty: "I made a mistake, Amelia… a huge one."

Amelia's sigh was heavy with worry.

> Amelia: "Betty, please tell me you didn't—"

Betty: "I did. I spent the night with someone else."

The line went quiet. Only Betty's soft crying filled the silence.

> Amelia: "Oh, Betty… why?"

Betty: "Because I was broken. Because I thought losing Ethan meant losing myself."

Amelia didn't scold her. She just listened. Because that's what real friends do — they listen to the wreckage before they help rebuild it.

That evening, Betty tried to focus on work — sketching designs for a fashion show she might never attend. But her mind wasn't cooperating. Every curve of her pencil felt like another reminder of what she'd ruined.

Then came a knock on her door.

Firm. Persistent.

When she opened it, she froze.

Daniel stood there — the man she'd tried to forget in less than 24 hours. He looked just as dangerous as the night before, only this time, his smile wasn't playful. It was possessive.

> Daniel: "You didn't answer my text. Thought maybe you'd like breakfast… or dinner."

Betty: "You shouldn't be here."

Daniel: "Why not? Last night said otherwise."

Her pulse quickened.

> Betty: "Last night was a mistake."

Daniel (smirking): "Mistakes don't feel that good, Betty."

She slammed the door in his face.

Her hands trembled, but her decision was clear — she wouldn't let one mistake destroy what was left of her.

Or so she thought.

Because two days later, she discovered something that made her heart stop — a secret growing inside her that would change everything agai
