Tonia's POV

"What the hell is that?" Samuel jerked backward, his arms releasing me so abruptly I nearly stumbled.

My heart plummeted into my stomach as I desperately hoped what I was seeing was some twisted nightmare.

It wasn't. Samuel's friend Joe lay motionless on the floor, his life stolen by Kermit.

Those pitch-black eyes locked onto mine before slowly shifting toward Samuel. A terrifying growl rumbled from his throat as he dropped the bloody organ and began stalking toward us.

Not us. Samuel.

"I didn't do anything wrong!" Samuel's voice cracked with terror.

Understanding the deadly situation unfolding, I threw myself between them.

"Stop right there! What's your problem with him?" I demanded, facing the man who looked completely unhinged.

"Move aside, Tonia." His gaze remained fixed on Samuel cowering behind me.

"Why should I? What's his crime?"
