Faye's POV
The creature attacked without warning.
My dagger came up just as its massive form crashed into me. The cave floor slammed against my spine, forcing every bit of air from my chest. Razor-sharp claws raked across my forearm while snapping jaws aimed for my throat. I pressed both palms against its chest, my blade the only barrier between its fangs and my face, but the beast's raw power overwhelmed me.
Then agony tore through my body. A string of curses escaped my lips.
Those deadly fangs pierced deep into my shoulder. Liquid fire coursed beneath my skin within seconds, a searing burn that raced down my arm and spread across my chest. Venom.
My muscles seized, my sight blurred, and the metallic taste of blood flooded my mouth.
Not here. Not now. Not like this.
