Chapter 4 - Humiliated

Good, it'll save us the awkwardness in person.

Dragging my aching body out of the bed, I don't dare to go home, quickly freshening up before I head to my office.

After what happened last night, I have made up my mind on getting divorced.

The family is now broken, but I cannot afford to lose my job.

I'm a clerk at a foreign trade company, a job I don't particularly like and doesn't pay much, but it has its stability.

I used to be a designer where the salary was high, but it was extremely exhausting.

James suggested that I should take it easy after marriage, that's why I switched jobs.

Now I've finally realized, this absurd man is merely concerned about my salary being higher than his!

If I knew that he's such a scumbag, I would've never switched jobs.

My phone automatically powered off last night due to a low battery.

After charging it, I discovered dozens of missed calls and a series of text messages from James.

In my heart, there was still a sliver of hope.

If, only if, he were to apologize, if he begged for my forgiveness, maybe, I might truly have forgiven him.

But upon seeing those texts he sent, my hope was extinguished.

"Mad woman, you'd better come back now!

Or I'll make sure you regret it!"

"So you sneak around behind my back with other men, as though I don't exist?"

"You're so desperate, you might as well have been raped by that group before!"

Such distasteful messages.

There are more texts, but I don't want to read them anymore.

Laying my phone on the table, I try to start working, but can't seem to focus.

In my mind, I began to reflect on the man from last night.

His image is clearly etched in my mind, but beyond that, I can't recall anything.

Just as I was thinking, my phone on the table began to vibrate.

I glanced at it, and it was a call from James.

I put my phone on silent and put it aside before starting to busy myself.

Work was the only thing that could make me temporarily forget James's wicked face.

 "Ella, you don't look well.

 What happened?"

Over lunch, Naomi sat across from me, sizing me up.

We had a pretty good relationship and usually eat together.

I shook my head at her and said, "I just didn't sleep well."

Our relationship wasn't at the point where we shared everything, and I couldn't bring myself to tell her what happened last night.

Naomi, who was quite naive, didn't suspect a thing and said to me, "You should rest a bit after dinner."

I nodded, but suddenly felt that the atmosphere in the cafeteria wasn't quite right.

It felt like... everyone's gaze was on me.

More accurately, they were looking behind me.

As I turned around, I saw Aria and James walking towards me aggressively.

Aria grabbed my hair while James seized my collar, both dragging me towards the door.

"You Moron!

Climbing onto the high branch and ignoring people, huh?

Starving for attention at night and looking for men, how are you different from a prostitute!

Ignoring my calls - it seems like you're just begging for trouble!"
