Chapter 11 - The Horse’s Mouth

"My father kicked me out of the car"

Katrina revealed this without blinking her eyes.

She never intended to start the conversation in this manner. However, George's constant questions pushed her to embrace innovative approaches.

George tossed off the bed to find a comfortable position. "Your father threw you out? You must be kidding me. This is nothing more than a mass joke,"

"Are you serious?

Is this the way you perceive me?

You do not even know me, but you speak with such confidence," she clapped back at George.

Just when George thought he had won her over, she revealed a shocking truth. "My father has told me everything about your friendship."

" "What exactly did he tell you?" George denied this.

He tried to play smart, but he was not excellent. Katrina appears to be smarter than I.

Her soul was restless, but she remained composed. She did not allow the situation to overwhelm her.

She laughed wickedly as she paced around the ward, hands positioned behind her.

She marched slowly back to George and spoke to him. "I expected you to deny it."

"It was not enough to destroy my family; now you want me to marry your son. What kind of father are you? Now I understand why Conor disrespects you at every opportunity," Katrina cursed.

She spoke for an inordinate amount of time without pausing.

If it were not for his health issues, she would have physically attacked him without fear of being arrested.

Her words crushed George's ego.

George, who was once vibrant and resilient, has suddenly turned into a vegetable.

. "Haven't you done enough damage?" George finally spoke, albeit in a faint tone, due to Katrina's immense pressure. He was sick and tired of concealing his displeasure.

Katrina was not only successful in putting immense pressure on George, but she also weakened his soul to the point of making him less of a man.

"I would like you to stay as far away from my family as possible. Of course, that includes my father, who is the reason I am having this conversation with you," she warned George.

"A piece of advice for you, little one: back off the damn case if you do not know anything about it." George laughed until he coughed and cried at the same time.

Katrina inquired as to George's wicked laughter. "What is funny about this?

Do you think I am here to joke?"

"Neither do I care, Katrina.

You can do whatever you want." George bragged. He didn't seem like he was moved by her threat.

The transition was incredibly smooth.

It would be difficult for anyone to believe that he was laughing so hard a while back.

"Even before you were born, your father and I were close friends. What you do not understand is greater than you.

Nothing on this planet can break our bond. Not now, nor anytime soon," George declared confidently.

He sounded so certain in his words that Katrina struggled to understand what was going on.

George appeared to be crying and not regretting his choice.

He also spoke in a clear voice.

His mood is conveyed by this.

Without hesitation, he would take advantage of another opportunity.

Katrina, not George, fell silent this time. She was impressed by George's confidence and persistence.

She had no idea how hard it would be to persuade him, much less win a spirited debate with George.

Now, Katrina knows why her father behaved in such a manner toward George during their college years. There is no need to explain her further.

George took it upon himself to speak to Katrina after noticing how quiet she had become.

This ended their protracted silence. "Look at me, child. It will be very beneficial to you if you pay attention to what I have to say about something important."

"I disagree.

You have no attention from me." She turned him down. She wants George gone from their lives for good.

Despite George's best efforts to convince her, she would not even glance in his direction.

"I will talk to you about your father, regardless of whether you choose to ignore me." George went on. It seemed that he was determined to win her heart no matter what.

"I just ask that you promise not to get in touch with my family. Should we expect that?

Otherwise, you can keep your damn conversations to yourself.

I would rather not listen to it." She faced the wall to avoid glaring at George in the face.

While they were arguing, Dr. Escobar entered with a file. Katrina was the centre of his attention, as if she had just escaped a heart attack.

"You again," he said, gesturing toward Katrina. "I did not see you walk in. How could you have accomplished that?"

Doctor Escobar teased Katrina, saying, "I would rather not think you now have some supernatural powers that make you appear at different places simultaneously."

George had already enraged her, so she was not interested in the joke.

"Where's your Dad? Why is he not here? If my memory serves me correctly, you went outside with him." He asked again to hide his goofy jokes.

George was forced to respond right away after this caught his attention. "Hold on, doctor. I just noticed something that needs to be talked about right away."

"Katrina, did you lie to me?

Given by the Doctor's last statement, I suppose you did lie," George redirected his focus to Katrina like he never left.

"Give yourself a rest, George.

You were not misled by anyone."

Katrina set the record straight.

"So, how did you find your way to the ward without being seen?"'

Not convinced, George asked again.

"Why should I waste time telling you lies? It is not worth the stress for you. The nurses did see me enter the building.

The doctor was informed of my presence, I believed. Do you understand everything now, or do you need more explanations?" Katrina clarified.

"Enough.

That no longer bothers me. All I want to know is where your dad is." Once more, Doctor Escobar ignored George entirely in favour of Katrina.
