Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Renovation 3

Early on the third morning, Lin Jing went to the largest local outdoor gear store. They had a wide selection of items, including axes, machetes, shovels, and tents, but they didn't have the compound crossbow he wanted. Instead, he bought an axe, machete, a flint, and other outdoor gear.

While checking out, he whispered to the shopkeeper, "Brother, I'm an enthusiast and will be going to a nearby county town for a few days of wilderness survival. Do you know where I can buy a compound crossbow?"

The shopkeeper smiled, clearly asking more than one person about this item. Seeing Lin Jing's cheerful purchase and his lack of haggling, he said, "I have a local outdoor survival group with people who specialize in this. You can ask them there."

"Okay, thank you. I'll add you. Please add me," Lin Jing said with a smile.

The shopkeeper added Lin Jing on his phone and then added him to the Jiangbei City outdoor group. Lin Jing joined the group without making a sound. After thanking him, he took a taxi and left. He had arranged for the shopkeeper to deliver the goods at 6:00 PM.

Lin Jing got in a taxi to go to the private hospital where he'd been yesterday for an IV and to get his wisdom tooth replaced. In the car, he opened the group chat profile picture and began searching. Sellers usually put an "A" before their names to make them stand out. Sure enough, after a quick glance, Lin Jing spotted the fourth person named "A Sells Outdoor Gear."

He clicked on their profile picture, added a friend, and quickly added them.

Lin Jing asked, "Excuse me, do you have any compound crossbows? I'd like a good quality one with a long range."

"A Sells Outdoor Gear: "Of course. My stock is top-notch. You can come and choose your own. We also have other items, like dog-legged i-knives. I'll send you the address if you come."

Lin Jing: "Okay, I need it urgently. I'm going to the county tomorrow for some wilderness survival."

A Sells Outdoor Gear: "Don't worry, we have everything in stock. You're guaranteed to be satisfied."

Lin Jing received the address and planned to go over and sort out the weapon issue after her IV was finished.

By the time he finished his IV, it was already noon. Since his mouth was sore, Lin Jing made do with some plain porridge and then took a taxi to the place where they'd been selling compound crossbows.

There was actually a store there, but it was a shop that made security windows, so it looked like a legitimate establishment. Upon arriving, Lin Jing told the owner what he wanted to buy, and he immediately took him to a large room inside the store. It was probably two rooms joined together, about 20 square meters.

The walls were covered with compound crossbows, binoculars, and other outdoor gear. Two large tables in the middle were filled with an assortment of machetes. Lin Jing went over and selected a dog-legged i-knife and the highest-quality, most expensive compound crossbow they had.

However, he was still a little concerned. "Boss, do you have a place here where I can try it out?"

"Of course there is. It's for that. Let's go over there and try it out." The owner pointed to a wooden cutting board hanging on the wall, riddled with holes, as if they were the work of others.

Lin Jing took a crossbow bolt and expertly loaded it onto the compound crossbow. The boss had been planning to teach Lin Jing a lesson, but seeing how skillful he was, he smiled and said, "I didn't realize you're such a seasoned pro. Not bad."

Lin Jing nodded. "I just moved here. I used to play with this back home."

What Lin Jing didn't mention was that he was also proficient in all kinds of firearms. International bodyguards like them were not only adept with firearms, but also with helicopters, speedboats, and boats. Lin Jing held the compound crossbow steadily with both hands, even feeling the distance was too close. He stopped only when the wall was behind her, adjusted the arrow's position, and pulled the trigger. The crossbow bolt whizzed through the air and then nailed directly into the center of the wooden board.

The boss had been a little worried that Lin Jing might miss, but seeing Lin Jing's stance, he realized he was a wild survival expert. "Awesome! You look like a pro."

"Not bad, boss. I need more arrows for these crossbows. Do you have 300?" Lin Jing asked, looking up at the compound crossbow in his hand.

"300? Are you kidding? You're only going to need a dozen or so when you go out. We really don't need to bring so many," the boss advised. After all, he was worried about something going wrong. Selling a dozen or twenty wouldn't be a big deal, but asking for 300 at once was a bit of a stretch.

Seeing that he seemed reluctant to sell, Lin Jing smiled and said, "Don't worry, I'm just buying some for a few of my friends. We're tired of arrows. Last time we shot more than a dozen pheasants, and I'm storing the rest at home. If you're really worried, you can take a photo of my ID. It's okay, I'm a good citizen."

"That's fine, but it's not cheap to buy so many at once. Although this crossbow is not made in foreign countries, it is definitely the best quality among the imitations. Look at it, the sight and lighting, and it has infrared aiming. The quality is quite good. The crossbow arrows are of good quality too. It can shoot animals to pieces from a hundred meters away." The boss kept introducing.

Lin Jing took a look and found that it was indeed the case. Although the crossbows and arrows were not of a famous brand, they were of good quality. "Okay, boss, you are a real man. I will first order five compound crossbows and three hundred crossbow arrows. Oh, and I want five of the best quality knives to be sharpened. Please help me sharpen them."

"Don't worry, otherwise how will you kill chickens and fish outdoors?" The boss said as if he understood everything.

Lin Jing walked around him again, and at the same time, his mind was thinking quickly about what he was missing. As if he remembered something, Lin Jing hurriedly said, "By the way, do you have charcoal for barbecue here? And military lunch boxes, water bottles and so on."

"Of course we have. Just tell me how much you want." When the boss heard that Lin Jing wanted to buy more, his face was almost smiling, not mentioning that Lin Jing bought too many crossbows and arrows.

"Five sets of lunch boxes and water bottles, five high-powered military binoculars, and two large boxes of charcoal. Nothing else. Just figure it out," Lin Jing urged. He had to go home soon. He'd been so busy reinforcing the house that he'd forgotten about the electricity. If the apocalypse struck, there was no telling how long the power system would last, so he needed to install a solar charger on the balcony to at least keep the house running.

"I just calculated it, and it's over 31,000. Since you bought so much, I'll give you a discount. I won't have to pay the change. Just 30,000. Do you need us to help with the delivery?" the boss asked considerately.

"Sure, I'll help. I'll be home soon, and someone's home." Finally, Lin Jing gave the boss 30,500.

Seeing Lin Jing overpay with 500, the boss asked, "30,000 is enough, why 500 more?"

"It's okay. You guys are working hard delivering the goods. That 500 is just the delivery fee," Lin Jing said with a smile.

Seeing that he didn't care about the money, the boss felt even better about Lin Jing. "Okay, since you're so straightforward, I'll make sure to arrange all the equipment for you and have them delivered to your door."

"Thank you, I have something else to do, so I'll leave first." Lin Jing texted his address to the boss and immediately took a taxi home.

Sitting in the car, he was still thinking about what other preparations he could make. The drainage issue was too complicated, and his current floor wasn't the top floor, so it wasn't easy to deal with. Moreover, it was already the third day, and in two days, doomsday would come. It was too late. From now on, he would just throw her urination and defecation into a bag and throw it out the window. Oh, and then there was the water issue!

He prepared a lot of drinking water, but he didn't consider water for bathing. His bedroom had a balcony and an independent bathroom. He could install a circulating water purification device in the independent bathroom so that the water after bathing could be used again after being recycled and purified. As long as she got a bigger water storage tank, he could still guarantee that he could take a hot bath within half a year.

Thinking of this, Lin Jing finally breathed a sigh of relief. Food, medicine, defense, weapons, heating, these things were all prepared. As for keeping warm, he had quilts and other things at home. Lin Jing didn't know if there was any place in Jiangbei City where he could buy winter clothes. If there was, it would be better to get one so that he could feel at ease. In addition, Lin Jing planned to read the book in her mind carefully when he returned to the hotel at night, and think about whether he had missed anything.
