Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 : Zombie

He thought about it and realized he couldn't leave all the household supplies out in the open. With that in mind, Lin Jing began moving things. First, the weapons. The remaining three compound crossbows and two hundred crossbow bolts naturally had to be placed in his room. He also moved the remaining three dog-legged knives, the engineer shovel, and other items into his room.

After he finished moving all the weapons, Lin Jing began moving the barrels of water.

He ignored the sweat as he carried bucket after bucket of water until his bedroom floor was almost full. Only then did he stop and start moving household items inside. He didn't carry much for shampoo and body wash, but he did take a lot of toilet paper and sanitary napkins, which he simply piled on top of the large bottles of water. He tried to keep them neatly stacked for his comfort.

After moving the household items, Lin Jing started moving the food. The canned goods he bought had a long shelf life. As long as they weren't leaking, they could be stored for two or three years. Lin Jing couldn't imagine what the apocalypse would be like in two or three years. Would there even be food to eat? Thinking of this, he began moving canned goods with even greater enthusiasm. Lin Jing also carried boxes of high-calorie foods like chocolate, energy bars, and candy to his bedroom.

When Lin Zhongsheng returned home, he saw Lin Jing moving things. He looked at him with annoyance, "What are you doing?"

"Moving some things into my room and some into the study, so you can make room in your own room," he replied flatly.

"You still have a conscience," Lin Zhongsheng snorted, ignoring him and heading to the kitchen to make himself a meal.

Lin Jing didn't bother to pay him any attention. Although he was wearing a book, he was indeed occupying the identity of the original Lin Jing. He still felt a sliver of guilt towards Lin Zhongsheng, after all, he was occupying his son's original identity. It was only a tiny bit, and not kicking Lin Zhongsheng out was the greatest kindness Lin Jing could offer him.

As long as he stayed home, if nothing else, he could definitely live a year or two longer than others.

It was June, the sweltering heat. Even with the air conditioner on, Lin Jing was still sweating profusely. He went to the bathroom, found a leather bag, and tied his slightly curly hair into a high ponytail. This way, he could feel less heat and work more efficiently.

He mechanically continued to move things until Lin Zhongsheng's room finally had some space. Once he had almost finished moving the supplies to his own room, he began moving them from Lin Zhongsheng's room to the study, which had been filled with bottled water.

By the time Lin Jing finished, it was past nine in the evening. He was so exhausted he could barely lift his arms, but he still insisted on showering and ordering takeout.

At ten o'clock, Lin Jing finally had dinner. He ordered a variety of delicious dishes, but because of his wisdom teeth, he didn't dare to order anything spicy. He sat in the living room, watching the evening news while he continued eating.

The news reports in Jiangbei City were still reporting trivial matters, with no sign of the impending doom tomorrow.

Lin Zhongsheng left his room to get some water from the kitchen. Seeing Lin Jing ordering takeout, he was furious. "Can't you just make something yourself? What a waste of money. Also, what's with that front door? I forgot to ask you, do you have the money to burn? And you installed such a heavy security door in your own room? Why? Who are you protecting it from? Your dad? And the front door? The previous security door was fine. Why did you change it? And to one that looks like the kind you get at a bank? You're crazy."

"Whether I'm crazy or not, you'll find out tomorrow. By the way, something might happen in Jiangbei City tomorrow. You'd better not go to work." Lin Jing finished his words and went back to his meal. He had done his best to remind Lin Zhongsheng so much, and if he insisted on going to work, there was nothing he could do.

"What's going on? Did you get any news?" Lin Zhongsheng asked quickly.

Lin Jing nodded and made up a story, "I guess so. Our leader has some connections up there, and they said something might happen tomorrow. They didn't say what exactly, just that you should try not to go out. I'm not going anyway, so you can figure it out."

Lin Jing didn't try to persuade him much. After all, good words can't persuade a damned person, and he had done his best by reminding him.

Lin Zhongsheng saw that Lin Jing didn't look like he was joking. While he loved money, he valued his life more. "Okay, then I won't go either. I'll go tell my relatives and friends at home."

Lin Jing frowned. If Lin Zhongsheng informed others, it would be troublesome. If the apocalypse broke out, these people would know he had been informed in advance. Similarly, they would probably guess that he had supplies, which was not a good thing.

"Wait, they wouldn't believe you even if you told them. And I advise you not to mention that you have supplies at home," Lin Jing said coldly.

"What supplies am I talking about? Who else hasn't stocked up yet? I'm just being kind and giving a heads up, maybe even doing you a favor." Lin Zhongsheng grabbed his phone and went back to his room.

Lin Jing sneered. Favors? Could such things exist in the apocalypse?

Lin Jing finished his takeout and went to bed early. He'd done a lot today and was exhausted. He needed plenty of rest.

The next morning, Lin Jing woke early. Although his arms were still a little sore, he was in good spirits. He remembered that in the original book, the zombies started to appear on the streets at nine in the morning.

Now it was only a little after six in the morning. Lin Jing picked up his phone and ordered a large takeout meal. This might be his last meal before the apocalypse.

The delivery boy had brought Lin Jing's food at seven o'clock. When he opened the door to get it, he ran into the woman from 03 next door. It looked like Mo Fei was going to work.

"The weather isn't very good today. It's best not to go to work," Lin Jing said, looking at the woman.

Mo Fei looked at Lin Jing speechlessly. What does the weather have to do with going to work? For workers, they have to go to work even if it rains knives from the sky, otherwise their performance salary will be deducted. "No need, I'm used to it."

Mo Fei rejected Lin Jing coldly and walked straight to the corridor.

Lin Jing sighed. As expected, no one was willing to believe him. He had just been kind, but no one appreciated it.

After getting the takeaway, Lin Jing ate in the living room. At the same time, he did not forget to turn on the TV and pay attention to several news channels, hoping to see if there were any clues.

Time passed by, and the content of the morning news was the same as before. Lin Jing hurried to eat a full meal. At 8 o'clock in the morning, he simply returned to his room, moved a chair to sit on the balcony of his room, and took a high-powered telescope to look into the distance.

There were many cars and pedestrians on the street. Lin Jing, looking around with a telescope, suddenly saw a scene at the nearby crosswalk that made his eyes widen. He saw a tall man holding another man's neck and biting him fiercely.

Lin Jing was watching intently when the system's mechanical voice immediately rang in his mind. "Congratulations, dear! The apocalypse has begun. From now on, for every 100 zombies killed, the host will upgrade the Tang sword's attributes once. The first lottery location will open in 8 hours. Darling, you need to collect a corresponding number of zombie crystal cores. Every 100 crystal cores will open a lottery. Please note that each lottery location will only remain open for three hours. Good luck, dear~"

Lin Jing nodded subconsciously. Killing 100 zombies to win a prize was not easy, especially since you had to collect crystal cores from the zombies' brains. It was no small task.

The system, seemingly anticipating Lin Jing's thoughts, continued, "Honey, you don't have to dig the crystal cores out of zombies' brains. As long as you kill a zombie, the system will automatically collect the crystal cores for you."

Lin Jing breathed a sigh of relief. "That's not bad."

He continued to peer through his high-powered binoculars. He saw that just now, there was only one zombie, biting someone, but now, at least seven or eight more zombies were on the road.

Zombies spread rapidly. A bite or scratch from a zombie would quickly infect a normal person. Within minutes, the virus spread throughout their body, robbing them of their human willpower and transforming them into bloodthirsty monsters.

Lin Jing didn't hesitate, continuing to observe with his high-powered binoculars. He saw that the zombies weren't moving very fast, even slower than normal people. It was just that many people were paralyzed by the sight of the zombies, and by the time they pounced, it was too late to dodge.

Lin Jing watched the crosswalk as an ambulance approached. The staff opened the doors and tried to get out to help carry the patients, but were immediately attacked by the zombies. Chaos erupted, and the entire block quickly lost its order.

As the zombies swarmed, the people began to panic. However, it was only the beginning of the apocalypse, and the police system in Country A, where Lin Jing was currently stationed, hadn't yet collapsed. Many officers were engaged in a relentless firefight against the monsters, but with limited manpower and ammunition, they were quickly overwhelmed by the zombies.

Those who reacted quickly closed their doors and headed home, while many others fled in all directions.

Lin Jing simply watched the scene unfold, still waiting. If he went out now, he might still encounter the police. He didn't want to risk it; he wanted to wait until the situation outside was more or less normal before taking any action. With

this thought in mind, Lin Jing immediately turned on his computer and the surveillance footage from Building 9. He first checked the entrance to the first floor. For now, the zombies hadn't spread to their area, but that might change in the near future.

Lin Jing's phone kept vibrating. Someone was talking in the community owner group.

801 Ma Shuai: Oh my god, what kind of monster is that outside? Did you all see it?

2001 Zhang Ming: What the hell? I just woke up and didn't see it.

302 Wang Hao: Shit, I was scared to death. When I drove to Binjiang Road, there were a lot of people biting people like crazy. Luckily, I hadn't turned around yet. I turned the car around and came back. Now I'm scared when I think about it. Those were not human beings at all.

801 Ma Shuai: Brother, you are so lucky. Did you see clearly what that thing was?

302 Wang Hao: It looks like the zombies in those foreign zombie movies. I don't know. I won't say anymore. I quickly called my family.

After Wang Hao finished speaking, the group fell silent.
