Back in the room, the door had continuously hit Quinn but not overly hard. It stopped briefly as the wendigos dropped then resumed harder as Quinn went to attack. He used blood swipes and blood crescent kicks which sent vertical lines of blood slicing the wendigos in half.
Just then, Logan heard the voice of Vorden outside one of the doors big enough to drive a van through. Vorden told them to come around to him because of the amount of tunnels in there. Lana did not agree. She wanted to retrace their steps and join them. She grabbed his hand and started doing just that.
Inside the lab, the doors to the other rooms started opening. Logan noticed more wendigos dropping into those rooms. He ran into Quinn's room and reported what he saw. Quinn tossed both girls up one at a time then Logan. He then jumped up and pulled himself through. Layla told them to follow her since she could see better than the humans. Quinn found them staring at the glass container of dead bodies. Logan was urging them to continue as there was nothing they could do about it.
From the warehouse, there was a tunnel that went down and into a large open space. There were two tunnels out of there. The blue lights reminded Quinn of the lights in the vampire settlement on the Orange portal planet that was confused for being dalki. They met Vorden and Lana again in this room. They came through a shutter-type door which they closed again once they entered.
The group was discussing their next move when there was some banging on the shutter door. They thought the door was impenetrable when they heard a bang louder than the others and saw a dent in the door.
Quinn chose the tunnel on the left. He was trying to run slow so everyone else could keep up. Lana and Vorden didn't have as much trouble but Cia tripped on the uneven floor and Lana decided she should be close to the back. Layla picked her up and kept her going. She then decided they were in this tunnel, why not leave speed bumps behind so she started putting trees in the passage to reduce what could get through. At the very least, they would have to destroy the tree which took longer than growing it. Maybe.
At the same time Quinn said to keep going because he could see something up ahead, Caser told Lana the creatures had broken through. She couldn't communicate with him as well as Kattie but she had the basics. Not long after, Quinn moved to the back of the group. He told the group if they got close, to keep moving, he'd handle it.
Lana decided it wasn't worth it to put up trees. If they could break that door, the trees weren't even a speed bump. She focused on keeping the others going. Soon Quinn was fighting behind her. She stole a glance back and saw wendigos were coming from all sides of the tunnel, even the top above their heads. Layla stated she could see something up ahead. Cia was right behind her.
Vorden ran up to see what it was and he saw a bridge. It looked like a rock slab suspended in the air with no braces under it holding it up. Logan told them to keep going. That it would hold. Logan went first with the rest following. Lana stayed at the back because she knew she was the fastest one behind Quinn. She was wondering if she could use her vine-whip like she did on invisible-boy in the dungeon.
Vorden hollered at Quinn to hurry up. Lana decided to stay about halfway on the bridge and that was where Quinn had stopped.
"I'll help for a second and then go, I promise," she told him. She then used her whip. She heard behind her, "Lana, what do you think you're doing?"
Just like in the dungeon, she was removing wendigo heads while Quinn was using blood swipes but then something strange happened. The wendigos stopped attacking and a huge bone creature appeared.
"Get out of here. NOW." And Lana didn't argue. What Lana didn't see was some of the wendigos had been crawling under the bridge Quinn had been hitting those as well but they were still fast and endless.
Vorden got the girls to the end of the bridge, huffing and puffing. They were at the entrance of the next tunnel. Layla asked about Quinn. Vorden said he'd catch up and Cia pointed at the retreating wendigos. Lana then joined them. The wendigos had moved away from the entrance at the other side were the group had come from and were curled up in a ball shivering in fear.
It had a pale body. Three claws on each hand that dragged the ground in an eerie sound. The fingers themselves were about a foot and a half long. Its eyes looked dead.
Quinn took one look and told them to leave. Gather as much information on Peter and Fex as they could. He would meet them. He then proceeded to punch the bridge with the hammer strike and the bridge broke. Quinn and all the remaining foes went down into the dark depths below.
Not all the wendigos fell from the bridge. Some tried to jump across the chasm to get to the others. The distance was too far. They eventually headed back down the tunnel.
Vorden decided to drop a stone and listen for it to hit below. They never heard anything. Logan said it didn't mean he was dead. Layla said he wasn't dead. She could still feel the connection with her master. Cia was wondering if he could get back out. Logan said as vast as the place was, he should be able to.
Vorden looked over the edge and whispered a prayer about those creatures being dead and Quinn being alive down there and they turned down the tunnel looking for the exit. Logan and Vorden were in front. Lana was in the middle and Layla and Cia were at the back. Vorden was getting an earful and he needed to make sure she didn't do anything stupid again. Logan was using his equipment to help find the exit, so they were confident.
Without the wendigos chasing them, they were able to be more deliberate in their tunnel choices. It turned out the choices were not necessary as the tunnel eventually took them to the exit. First, they could see a little light. Then they felt a breeze and fresh air. Cia got excited about the exit then they all started walking faster.
Cia and Layla collapsed to the ground once they were free of the tunnel. The boys were looking around. Lana had dropped to a knee as she was hit with an onslaught of voices once more. She steeled herself and stood back up with a smile. She was getting information again. There were trees, a mountain, a dark sky and two moons. The forest nearby had gray leaves on the trees instead of green ones.
The settlement was the other side of the forest. She knew because the trees said so. She was also getting a ton of useless information again. She then realized, not all of it was useless. She was given the location of beast dens as well. Caser would like that information and she smiled broadly.
Logan wanted to climb the mountain to see what was beyond the mountain. Layla and Cia protested, needing rest. Vorden volunteered to go looking at Lana when he asked Logan to protect the girls. She didn't notice. She was listening. Logan handed off a spider to Vorden to record what he could see.
Vorden looked at the mountain to choose the best path then set out. Cia said he looked like a ninja as he easily scaled the slope. Beyond the forest was the vampire city. It was lit up in the darkness. His heart started beating faster.
