She then decided to try a trick with Caser. She put him down and started walking. She put her arm out and told him to grab it and swing up. He grabbed just fine but she had to give an assist for the up portion. She wanted to test his new body. She didn't think about the fact he should probably rest some before doing strenuous things. She went in to cook and it looked like the meeting was just breaking up. She asked if anyone wanted dinner or if they were good with the food pill.
Vorden asked, "is it safe for me to eat?"
She nodded then went to the kitchen to prepare something that would give them added strength for tomorrow. He followed her in, "it looks like everyone but Quinn, Peter and Timmy."
She nodded.
"Not talking?"
"Still hurting."
"…Caser got his first kill today."
Vorden was shocked, "First kill? You left the castle with him? Do you know how irrespon…"
"Chill your britches. I didn't go anywhere. Yesterday Quinn did an errand for Edward and was attacked. I hired one of them to hunt beasts once I heard his story. He's delivering live beasts to me."
"Is that safe? Something could go wrong. I don't like it."
She took a deep breath. "Are you going to wrap me in silk and keep me in a padded room for my safety? I'm not as helpless as you seem to think I am."
"These are vampires. They are stronger than us!" Vorden was raising his voice. He was still negatively affected by that vampire noble stopping his blade in the spar with Xander. Within 20 minutes, she had food on the table then went back out to the garden saying she already ate as she walked out. She didn't want to eat.
He was being unreasonable. He knew vampires were stronger before they came yet he was fine with her being here; insisted on it, actually. She also knew that part in the kitchen was all Vorden. She could only take so much of him anyway and they had spent way too much time together while here. She needed more time with Sil, not Vorden.
She put Caser down in the pen and released the bunny. This time he didn't observe too much. He realized she was in there and he was going to keep her safe. He grabbed it with all his tentacles and ripped its throat out. He then tasted it and made short work of it.
She heard footsteps trying to be quiet and looked up. Her eyes saw aura but no person. She knew it was Quinn.
"Hey, practicing your shadow?"
"How did you see me?"
"I can see your aura and your white energy. I think Leo called it Qi."
"You can see Qi?"
She nodded, "can't you? Well maybe not, your Qi is still growing. You will be able to if you keep it up."
"Actually, I came out here to see if you're okay? I'm not sure I agree with Vorden excluding you. If they can fight, you should be able to as well. I wanted to ask your permission to talk to him about it."
She shook her head, "I can't. That didn't come from Vorden. It came from Sil. You were there when I made a promise. I can't go back on it and after seeing how he felt about it… I had to leave it." She paused for a few seconds. "Did you see Caser grew some more tentacles? He's getting stronger."
"Yeah, I did. What is this that you have going on out here?"
"Well, this fencing and enclosures are for him to learn to hunt. That vampire brought two beasts just as we agreed today. That was the second one he killed. He picked it up surprisingly well. I think maybe they're too easy for him. You have fruit trees against the wall now but I may take them down once leave. I have herbs for medicine growing over there. I figured since I was put on house arrest for this event, I'd do something constructive. Work with Caser and my plants. Do you mind if I have a guest over? I hope you don't since I already sent the invite…" she smiled sheepishly.
"Just as long as it's a female. We don't need more drama."
"Oh, it is," she smiled. "Thank you, Quinn. They both made me feel like they thought I was incapable of helping out and it hurts. I know I could be of some use. Well… maybe now that I think of it. I do tend to freeze up in the presence of strong people while in violent confrontation so maybe banning me was the right thing to do."
"You need to work on that if it's the case."
Lana laughed, "Who has time for me?" she shook her head. "I appreciate the visit. I think I'm just going to go up to bed now. See you tomorrow." She picked up Caser and did just that. She was asleep before Vorden returned from the lab. She had her arms wrapped around Caser. He decided to let her sleep rather than upset her more. Sil still switched out in case she woke up and wanted to talk to him. She didn't. Instead, she left him a note:
Come back to me in one piece and still breathing.
Lana went downstairs and cooked breakfast then went and sat on the roof. She and Caser could see the plaza from the spot they were at, though it was still dark. Soon she saw them leave. She saw Vorden looking around and knew he was looking for her. She decided to whistle and wave. He saw her and waved back. She sent Max to get her friend and soon she had a viewing companion.
Sitting with Serene, she felt she had a friend. They were still waiting for the interesting things to happen. "IF this goes down the way I think it will, do you think you can hang out for a while? I have someone delivering live food to help me train Caser and I may not be here for it. I have him doing it in secret, over the wall." Lana explained how it worked.
Just as she finished, they saw the leaders come out then a boy in chains which could only have been Fex. Lana's eyes were unsure with the darkness but she had Serene confirm it. Not long later, a man walking and a knight jumped off the stage. There was a loud bang and the top part of his body was missing. It was just like with general Duke. Lana knew it was Quinn and said so.
