*BOOOOM!*
The sudden noises of combat jolted the soldier awake.
Opening his eyes and looking at his glove-covered hands, the soldier stood up and started walking out of his tent towards the sound of conflict.
On the way to the exit, his staff was placed neatly on a support. The soldier took the staff and looked at it with a bit of melancholy, like looking at an old friend. This look lasted but a moment before he regained his focused gaze, and resumed walking forward.
Exiting the tent was the view of destruction. Nowhere did the soldier's gaze reach that wasn't covered in flames or debris.
Setting his gaze forward came the view of the fight that had startled him a moment ago, in the faraway place, more than a dozen beasts and countless humans were having a fight of cataclysmic proportions, the ground quaked, the air trembled, space contorted, and the world seemed to cry.
Reaching closer to the fight, the soldier quickly took notice of an enemy combatant approaching swiftly. His feet seemed to never touch the ground by the sheer speed at which he drew closer.
In mere moments, the enemy combatant reached the soldier and slashed upward with his sword, the soldier quickly jerked back his body but not fast enough.
Grazing from his waist upwards, a cut followed by blood and pain quickly appeared on the soldier's torso. He looked at the man in front of him, focusing on his chest, and casted a spell.
Moments later, the soldier appeared hundreds of meters away in the air, his body standing in the air like a man stands on the ground. He grabbed his staff, raised it vertically over his head, endured the pain, and started casting a spell.
Lightning started crackling from his body and resonating through the air, concentrating this lightning on his staff, the soldier waved it forward with force, a blinding light came through, while a huge lightning snake came to life from the man's staff. The attack reached the adversary so fast he almost didn't see it coming. Raising his sword and barely channeling his mana for protection, he tried to defend himself from the attack.
The lightning snake impacted with a strength so great that the earth quaked and everything within a 100-meter radius was burnt to a crisp. The soldier took this time to channel mana to his wounded body to stabilize the wound.
Feeling the warm sensation of mana erase bit by bit the bleeding he was enduring, the mage casted a spell, and like before, he instantly stood in front of his enemy.
Looking down at him, the soldier saw the mangled body of a man with burnt skin everywhere and holes where burnt muscles and bones could be seen. Somehow, even with the body broken like this by the spell, he was still breathing.
The soldier aimed his staff at the enemy, forming a multitude of perfectly sculpted ice spears, and asked
" Any last words?"
The man sprawled on the ground, barely breathing, tried to laugh but coughed blood instead, he gathered his remaining strenght and replied
"it doesn't matter if i perish, everything is already done, even if i dont get to see it, what's about to come can't be stopped even by a legendary like you, hahaha *cough, cough*"
said the man, laughing while coughing blood from time to time.
"What?" said the soldier, but before he could ask further, the world quaked yet again.
Gulping down his question, the man finished his enemy, impaling him with the ice spears before quickly turning toward the large battle, and with a wave of his staff, he disappeared yet again.
Far away in the air, the soldier appeared again, this time, looking around on the ground was a sea of dead humans and monsters.
His heart ached at the sight, and his throat seemed to have a lump when he saw the bodies of his subordinates on the ground, lifeless, aides and companions alike, all perished in this fight that seemed to have no end.
Many of those humans were known to him after all. They were together many times during this war, fighting side by side, protecting each other through hundreds of fights to the death.
Wiping away his tears and swallowing the sadness into his soul, he kept moving forward to the fight that had yet to decide a victor.
Approaching, he saw what seemed to be something coming from a nightmare
'4 dragons, 6 phoenixes, 2 kirins, a dozen beasts and 2 dozen humans, all at legendary realm…' the soldier whispered to himself.
This free-for-all fight was destroying the world by the second, sending ripples in the space everywhere, forming cracks in the void. The soldier joined his allies in the fight, analyzing the battlefield before deciding on a foe to strike.
He raised his staff and started to cast an ice spell at an enemy that was harassing the only healing user of their group, and with a wave of his staff, a giant ice sword appeared out of thin air and slashed downward to the enemy.
Said enemy blocked his spell with a great earth shield and used the momentum of the impact to retreat.
"thanks"
Said the healer briefly before she healed the wound on his torso and returned her concentration back to the fight.
" No problem, you are the only healer we have left. If we lose you, we are not likely to survive much longer."
Said the soldier honestly, feeling the warm current of mana erase the pain that once was.
What otherwise would have been animosity, since legends rarely got along, now became camaraderie, since they all have been fighting a common enemy for the same goal, to stop the world from ending.
Returning his gaze to the battle, the soldier, having separated the enemies from the allies, raised his staff with both hands in the air and started accumulating mana.
Before starting casting the spell, he said
"Buy me some time." to another man on the battlefield, the man responded with a grunt, signaling his agreement.
The soldier started casting his spell, and lightning yet again started crackling around him.
But this time it was much stronger than the last. This attack had every drop of mana the soldier could muster, intending to unleash his ultimate attack.
But not long before he could cast the spell, he saw something he thought was impossible.
All around him in the distance were 8 miniature suns rising to the sky, the soldier shuddered at such sight and remembered the words of the man he killed not long ago.
Despair and fear started creeping on his body, in fact, it started creeping in every being's body with the exception of those who orchestrated this.
" Finally…" said a man with a set of armor that looked like the same one his last foe wore.
"Freedom." he said before closing his mouth permanently.
Every other being looked at those miniature suns, and before they could think or ask what it was, the night turned to day, cracks and ruptures started to appear all over the world, and a deafening noise battered everyone.
The last thing the soldier saw before being torn apart by the void cracks was a fragmented realm, then pain made him faint.
