Chapter 88 - Progress was faster than expected.

Brooklyn.Antarctic Biotechnology Branch.

A restricted-access laboratory—over eight hundred square meters of it—lay quietly behind reinforced doors.

Inside, Banner worked alone. He looked like a man with severe obsessive tendencies; every tool and material was arranged with surgical precision.

He didn't even look up when the door opened. Still focused on the delicate instrument in his hand, he murmured, "Hold on. I'm in the middle of something important—come over slowly."

Xu Dan glanced at the nearby helmet and immediately understood Banner was performing a highly intricate procedure.

He approached quietly and watched Banner work, the scientist's attention fixed so completely that he didn't notice anything else.

With Xu Dan's enhanced perception, he could clearly see the development process displayed within the helmet.

Progress was faster than expected.

But connecting the helmet to human neural pathways would still take time.

After what felt like ages, Banner finally exhaled and clenched his fists in satisfaction—clearly, his experiment had achieved a breakthrough.

"Mr. Xu Dan? I didn't expect you to come! Sorry—I got completely absorbed!"

He apologized quickly. After all, the man before him had saved his life and granted him a peaceful future.

But Xu Dan waved it off with a small chuckle. "Don't worry about it."

Then he glanced at the computers around them. "Red Queen, upload all Umbrella Corporation research data to the host here."

Banner blinked in confusion. "Red Queen? Who's the Red Queen? Someone else is here?"

The moment he finished speaking, a red holographic silhouette appeared in the lab's projection grid. In the stark white laboratory, the petite crimson figure looked almost ethereal.

"Oh my god… What is—?" Banner stared, speechless. "This… this is—?"

"An artificial intelligence," Xu Dan said. "Her name is Red Queen."

"Artificial intelligence…" Banner repeated, pushing up his glasses to inspect the projection again, surprise flickering in his eyes.

Rumors about advanced AI had circulated on the internet for over a decade, yet the world still hadn't produced anything truly groundbreaking.

Even Banner had begun doubting whether real, high-level AI could exist.

Everyone knew basic smart programs—your induction cooktop had one.

But true artificial intelligence—like the Red Queen—possessed human-level intellect, and computational abilities that far surpassed any human.

So was this Red Queen genuine? Or merely a pretty shell with no substance?

"Master, the data transfer is complete," the Red Queen announced.

Xu Dan nodded. "Good. Efficient as always."

"What data?" Banner asked.

"Biological research. The Red Queen's uploaded everything into this lab's encrypted server. It should be helpful."

Banner adjusted his glasses, skeptical. "If it's just data from modern biotech companies, I doubt it'll be of any use."

It wasn't arrogance—just fact.

Banner's current work was decades ahead of its time. No contemporary data could possibly help him.

Xu Dan smiled and patted his shoulder. "It's not ordinary data. It's research detailed enough to destroy the world."

"What?!"

Banner's eyes went wide in shock. Xu Dan couldn't help smiling—too young, still.

He had finished what he came for: checking progress and transferring the Red Queen's knowledge base.

Judging from the current status, the virtual game helmet still needed time. Progress since last time wasn't substantial.

The grand project of virtual reality gaming was Xu Dan's top priority—he'd have to push harder.

Just as he was about to leave the lab, his phone rang.

The number was unfamiliar.

But no spam call could ever bypass the anti-harassment system he personally built.

"Hello," Xu Dan answered casually.

Before the caller spoke, explosions and screams erupted through the line—chaos, destruction.

Xu Dan frowned.

"Xu Dan! I need Bruce Banner!"

At the voice, recognition flashed. And across the lab, Banner stiffened the moment he heard it—nervous tension filling the air.

"General Ross," Xu Dan said coldly, "don't forget our agreement. You can't arrest Bruce Banner."

To make Ross back off, Xu Dan had traded certain… incentives. Fortunately, Ross was a greedy old turtle; a few benefits and he happily agreed.

Once that pact was made, breaking it meant death—quite literally. A midnight execution by wind blade was not out of the question.

Ross's voice shifted—from firm at first, to strained, then to something close to pleading.

While Ross babbled excuses and tried to paint himself as a helpless victim, Xu Dan raised an eyebrow.

"Red Queen," he murmured to the lab equipment, "locate Ross and pull up a live feed."

"Yes, Master."

The Red Queen's intelligence dwarfed anything on Earth. Claiming second place would be modest—no one else even qualified to claim first.

She hijacked a U.S. satellite instantly, using 99% of its processing power to pinpoint Ross's exact location.

Within two seconds, the lab projector displayed it.

A wide street—engulfed in smoke and fire. A grotesque monster rampaged through soldiers like paper dolls.

The creature's massive arm swept through a squad; their bodies burst into blood under the impact.

Screams, explosions, wailing—chaos everywhere.

Xu Dan smiled.

If responsibility for this disaster landed on Ross's head, even a general wouldn't escape punishment.

No wonder the old fox pretended innocence on the phone—he was terrified of leaving evidence.

The monster tearing through the street was none other than the Abomination.

And the man he hated most wasn't Banner—it was Ross.

Ross had tricked Emil Blonsky into traveling to Brazil for a mission, never suspecting the frail-looking man he pursued was actually the Hulk.

Before Blonsky even saw the Hulk, he'd been hospitalized—flattened by a priest.

He had spent days bedridden, resentment festering and boiling within him, until escape was impossible.

Now, that fury had taken shape.

And it was tearing the city apart.
