Chapter 89 - “What the hell is that?”

"What the hell is that?"

Banner pushed his glasses up and stared at the image floating on the virtual screen. He had always known he was a green monster, but he had never imagined there might be another creature like him in the world.

Xu Dan explained, "This is the handiwork of Mr. Lan—the man you trusted so deeply. He refined the blood you sent him into a serum and injected it into the soldier who hunted you that day."

Banner's expression collapsed. He shook his head again and again, unable to accept it, yet unable to deny what he was seeing.

But that was the truth. Xu Dan hadn't lied about a single word.

Banner's pain came not only from betrayal, but from the crushing hatred he held toward his own power.

That newly emerged green monster existed because of his serum.

"Banner," Xu Dan said, "so what do you think? Do you want to go out there and kill that monster yourself?"

"I'm still within the drug's effect window…"

"Then there's nothing you can do. I'll just have to clean up the mess for you." Xu Dan patted him on the shoulder.

Last time, he had been the one to deal with the Iron Monger as well.

As long as these brilliant 'employees' were willing to bury themselves in their work, he—this very considerate boss—was more than happy to handle the troublesome parts himself.

"No, you can't beat him. I've turned into a monster too—I know that power!" Banner said anxiously.

Xu Dan waved off his concern. "Keep experimenting. Don't worry about anything else."

With that, he walked out of the lab and headed downstairs at a brisk pace.

Yuhonghou was already driving the car up when Xu Dan climbed in. As they sped off, Xu Dan opened the system's points mall, ready to give himself a wave of power-ups before the fight.

He normally poured all his time into work and had no energy to train—but sharpening the blade right before the battle? He was perfectly fine with that.

First, he checked his points balance.

With several major in-game events running on the platform, he was no longer starving for points—unless he wanted to buy those outrageously priced items.

For normal expenses, tens of millions of points were manageable.

After the purchase of Red and a few player contributions, his balance now sat at 150 million.

Enough to buy quite a few skills.

[Skill List]

[Flame Storm]: 5,560,000 points[Still Trap]: 6,550,000 points[Devil's Haunting]: 7,350,000 points…

The skills flashed past his eyes. The names were all glorious and imposing—yet unfortunately, every single one required a casting sequence.

In real combat, unless your enemy was leagues weaker than you, battles were decided in an instant. Who would stand there politely and let you channel a skill?

Real people were not game characters.

After scanning through them, he flipped several pages ahead.

Suddenly, his eyes brightened.

[Sword Saint Inheritance]: 120,000,000 points

He noticed it immediately because of the price.

In these later pages, most items were priced in the billions.

But this one? Only one hundred and twenty million.

One digit less than everything else—easy to spot.

He tapped on it, and the description appeared.

[Sword Saint Inheritance]: Grants the user the complete power inheritance of the Sword Saint from Warcraft. (Note: Since the host has already acquired all Sword Saint skills, this product is offered at a discounted price!)

Seeing the explanation, Xu Dan couldn't help but smile.

He had heard countless stories of other protagonists being tormented by their systems. But his? His was downright considerate.

"Purchase Sword Saint Inheritance."

Ding!

"Purchase successful."

The moment the notification sounded, a swelling ache burst inside Xu Dan's head. A torrent of strange, heavy information surged through him.

The Sword Saint's memories—his combat experience, his life skills, the twists and turns of his entire existence—played through Xu Dan's mind like a film.

As he absorbed what he could, the memories faded, leaving behind only one thing:

Power.

The purest essence of Sword Saint mastery.

He hadn't strengthened his body, but through sheer comprehension of higher-level swordsmanship, his combat strength had increased by half.

A normal soldier claiming to "double" his combat effectiveness meant nothing.

But for someone like Xu Dan to assert a fifty percent increase—this was no exaggeration.

If, before, his sword could carve a ten-centimeter gouge into Iron Monger's arm, then now, with full strength, he could slice the entire arm clean off.

Terrifying growth.

Even Xu Dan was impressed with himself.

Buying this had been the right choice.

After spending 120 million points, he had about 30 million remaining.

His swordsmanship had just risen several tiers—but he still needed a weapon worthy of it.

Going head-to-head with Abomination meant ordinary weapons were useless.

That creature's power originated from Banner's blood—his physical stats nearly matched the Hulk's.

His skin's toughness and his regeneration rate were monstrously high.

He needed something sharper than the weapon he'd used last time.

[Weapon List]

[Evil Gladiator's Saber]: 4,500,000 points[Zephyr, Titan Guardian's Longsword]: 5,000,000 points…[Hell-Roaring Sword of Destruction]: 26,000,000 points

His gaze drifted over the blue-tier weapons until it settled on the epic one.

This was a weapon around level 90—its stats were already impressive.

Its appearance was equally striking.

A man devoted to the sword was always picky about his blade.

Despite being called a "sword," this weapon looked more like a massive blade—more like a cleaver forged for war.

Its entire surface shimmered with a thick, molten-red glow, like a blade forged from living flame.

Just like its name—Hell's Roaring Sword of Destruction.

Using such a domineering weapon against Abomination would certainly be… interesting.

"Purchase Hell-Roaring Sword of Destruction."

Ding!

"Purchase successful."

Xu Dan extended his hand, and the "sword" materialized in his palm.

Aside from its razor edge, it radiated burning heat.

As if it had been carved straight from magma.

"Nice weapon. Let's hope it performs well."

Everyone knew that cutting down a Marvel supervillain always required excessive manpower and resources.

Last time, to kill Obadiah, he'd bought a cheaper sword from the points mall. When it broke afterward, he didn't feel the slightest regret.
