Chapter 18 - Ch 18: A New Challenge

Mila's blue eyes scanned the bustling city square, landing on a colorful poster fluttering in the morning breeze. It read:

"Berbeign Academy Hiring! Teachers Wanted, Fair Pay Based on Performance!"

Her stomach rumbled slightly. Not because she was hungry, but because… opportunity smelled like adventure.

Milly… this could work, she thought, letting the name escape her lips before quickly correcting herself. Mila now. Mila can do this.

With purpose in her step, she made her way to the academy, the morning sun glinting off her white hair. The doors opened into a grand hall filled with students and staff moving briskly. She approached the front desk, where a cheerful secretary looked up.

"Good morning! How can I help you?" the secretary asked.

"I… I'm here to apply," Mila said, trying to keep her voice steady, though a little tremor betrayed her nerves. "For… Physical Education. PE."

The secretary raised an eyebrow, impressed. "A brave choice! PE is rigorous, but the pay reflects your performance. First, you'll need to complete a written test."

Mila's heart skipped. Written test? She had never enjoyed papers, but she straightened her back and nodded. "Of course. I'll do my best."

The test room was small and quiet. Mila glanced around at the other applicants, a mix of young adults and older teachers-in-training. Some looked nervous, others confident, but she focused on her own paper.

Questions ranged from anatomy to sports theory, drills, and even strategy for group activities. Mila's dragon instincts helped her in unexpected ways her sense of motion and coordination allowed her to imagine the answers in real-time.

Good… Mila… you can do this, she whispered under her breath. Occasionally, a flicker of memory from her past self, Milly, brushed against her mind, reminding her that she wasn't just a normal human.

By the end, Mila handed in her test with a small smile, a mixture of pride and anticipation fluttering in her chest. "Now… let's see if Mila's new life starts here," she murmured softly.

Outside the window, students trained in the yard, unaware that a dragon girl in human form was among them, quietly preparing for a path that could be far more extraordinary than even she imagined.
