Chapter 19 - Ch 19: First Day Surprises

Mila stepped out of the test room, her white hair slightly mussed from the tension of concentrating. Well… that's done. Now… wait for the result. She wandered toward the academy's courtyard, the scent of freshly cut grass and the sounds of training students filling the air.

A cheerful bell rang, signaling the start of the day. Mila paused, scanning the area, when a familiar face caught her attention one of the instructors from the PE department, a tall man with a clipboard.

"Ah, you must be Mila," he called out, smiling. "We've just graded your test. Come with me."

Her heart skipped. This is it… my first evaluation as a teacher in the human world.

The instructor led her to a small office, where a neatly arranged stack of papers awaited. He shuffled through them and then looked at her with a grin.

"Impressive! You've scored among the top candidates. I think you'll do well here. But…" He leaned in slightly, his tone teasing. "You'll need to demonstrate your skills in front of the students. Can you handle that?"

Mila straightened. "I… I can. Of course I can."

The instructor chuckled. "Good. Head to the training field in five minutes. The students will need a warm-up session."

Mila's pulse quickened. This is it… Milly… I mean Mila… show them what you can do. She made her way to the field, mentally preparing herself.

The students were already assembled, chatting and stretching. Mila took a deep breath, stepped onto the field, and called out, "Good morning, everyone! Today, I'll be leading your warm-up. Follow my lead!"

A few students glanced at her skeptically, whispering among themselves. Mila ignored it, focusing instead on demonstrating stretches and movements. She could feel the subtle tension in her shoulders from the past year, the unspoken memories lingering like shadows.

One student whispered loudly enough for a friend to hear, "She's kinda… different. Look at her eyes."

Mila paused for a split second, her golden eyes flickering in the sunlight before she forced herself to focus. It's Mila now. Keep it together.

By the end of the warm-up, a few students were smiling, some struggling to keep up, and Mila felt a quiet sense of satisfaction. She had survived her first test and it was only the beginning.
