"Detective," one of the first reporters to arrive, had an accent reminiscent of Brooklyn.
"You guys are getting there pretty fast," the detective said, crossing her arms.
"You know how us bloodsucking reporters, sniffing out scoops is kind of our superpower. Eddy Brock of the Daily Bugle is on the radio saying this was a superman-related incident. Could you clarify if that's true?" the man asked.
"Initial statements indicate that this is a potentially unexplained phenomenon; however, the NYPD will continue to investigate until evidence warrants a turnover to WDRA," the detective explained.
"Well, that was a formally government-sponsored building, so obviously the agency will take over regardless of the evidence," Eddy muttered before leaving.
Sven noticed Luke's friend exchanging glances with the detective. He nodded, and she winked at him. The wink brought a smile to her face, which made Luke roll his eyes. They walked through the streets before coming to an apartment. Sven hesitantly followed them to the room. It was cheap, affordable, but not a home.
"Sit down, take off your jacket, Danny, get me a glass of water, Luke, the painkillers are in the cupboard upstairs," Claire explained.
He took off his jacket and pulled a bag from the kitchen. He put on some gloves, took out a small flashlight, and shone it in Sven's eyes. He moved his finger to test its tracking ability.
"Does anything hurt?" she asked, running her hands over his scalp.
There was blood on his fingertips, but Sven shook his head. The newly appointed Danny placed the glass of water a short distance from Sven.
"Try to reach the water," Claire asked.
Sven did so, taking the glass and drinking the contents down his throat.
"Well, you're fine with the distance, your reaction time was a little slow, you got some blood and you still have some there," Claire said as she began to clean the top of Sven's head with a swab.
"I wanted to go back, but I hesitated." Sven lowered his head and rubbed his hands together.
"You thought you could save someone when you were too busy saving yourself," Claire said.
"I froze," there were tears in Sven's eyes.
"There's a certainty that if you had come back, you'd be dead now," Luke said.
"Who are you?" Sven asked.
"The Night Nurse, the Mighty Man, and I am the Immortal Iron Fist," Danny said, causing Luke to groan and Sven to look at him in amazement.
"Claire Temple, I work the night shift," Claire said, placing a bandage over Sven's head.
"If I do this, will I have a bald spot?" Sven asked, and Claire shook her head.
"My name is Luke Cage, not Power Man," Luke shot Danny a look, causing him to duck his head.
"Are you a police officer?"
"I used to be a beat cop, got accused of things I didn't do, did time, and now I'm helping people. Mr. Immortal here (just to clarify, he's not immortal) and he hasn't worked a day in his life..."
"That's not true, I worked a lot in K'un Lun," Danny said.
"Please don't ask what Kun Lun is," Claire murmured.
"What is Kun Lun?"
"Oh my God, the point is, Danny's rich but wants to do more than run a company, so he helps me on the streets," Luke explained.
"I see, I'm Sven."
"What were you doing in that building, Sven?" Luke asked.
"I'm looking for answers to questions that are my responsibility to answer," Sven said as he stood up.
"Well, there were people who died there today who could have had answers too. People who were hurt or lost loved ones who deserve answers too," Luke sounded calm, his tone preachy, and his intent to help.
They offered him help, but remembering the people caught in the crossfire made Sven regret it. He grabbed his jacket, put it on, and checked the pocket for the disk.
"I'm sorry about what happened, and I appreciate that the detective from earlier was at the 29th precinct, right?" Sven asked.
"Her name is Misty Knight ," Danny said.
"Really?" Sven's eyes nearly popped out of his head, and his voice became almost shrill as he chuckled. "What a cool name!"
"She'll expect answers," Luke said.
"I know, and I promise I'll give it to them." Sven brushed his eyebrows, stumbling slightly.
He ran into Luke, apologized, and assured him he was fine. As they left, Luke and Danny exchanged glances.
"I think we'll see him again," Iron said. Fist .
"It doesn't take a detective to figure that out, but we're going to need a detective to figure out what's up..." Luke asked. a pause , checking his pockets . "Wait a minute, I stole the disc from his pocket, but... Oh, that son of a...!"
