Synopsis
Seventeen-year-old Reinhard has a singular goal: unite all species under one world. But every species lives by its own rules, driven by pleasures shaped through millennia of evolution. Some crave power, some crave survival, some crave chaos—and none see the world as he does. Can one human thread together a fractured world where every life is built to dominate or destroy another? In Flux, survival, ambition, and the nature of desire collide, and the line between unity and annihilation is razor-thin.

Chapter 1 - The Beginning After The End

A sudden wave of sadness hit him, sharp and unrelenting, as his teacher's words—once philosophical, almost abstract—now bled into reality. Reality for him, for everyone he knew.

"It's not about certainty. It's about increasing the odds. You don't have certainty for anything," the memory flashed through his mind like lightning, searing into his thoughts.

Something was ending. Yet, something else—unknown, inevitable—was beginning.

---

High above the ground, on the thick limbs of a massive tree, a boy stood. He wore a simple purple shirt, skin-colored pants, and green shoes. His thick silver hair fell to his neck, giving him an ethereal, almost otherworldly look, while his pale skin and blue, round eyes lent him a strange innocence. At seventeen, he could almost pass for fragile—but there was a calm, quiet intensity about him.

He held a small apple, feeding it to a four-legged, white-furred creature perched beside him. It was an omnithal, a wolf-like species prized for its nutritional value to humans, though rare.

"Feeding an omnithal again, Reinhard?" came a sarcastic voice. "Nice. Keep it up. Feed the food that feeds humans. Let your cousins starve while your enemies dine."

Reinhard's blue eyes narrowed slightly. "How many times are you going to say the same thing?"

Kael only smiled, calm, playful. "I was joking. And honestly, I knew you wouldn't listen anyway. I've said it a million times—you don't change. I came because Level 2.b of the Human Government sent a message. We're going to their office—now."

Reinhard nodded, voice measured. "Alright. Let's go."

---

The air felt heavier as they arrived at the government's Level 2.b office. Silence lingered unusually long, almost tangible, as if the walls themselves whispered a warning.

There, Reinhard immediately saw his sister, Elizabeth. She was nineteen, a vision of golden curls, delicate yet commanding, with eyes the shade of summer skies and golden lashes that framed them perfectly. Her skirt swayed slightly as she moved, giving her the poise of royalty.

"Are we all summoned together?" Reinhard asked.

Elizabeth smiled faintly. "It seems so. Unusual, though."

They stepped through the main office door into a cool, air-conditioned room that sharply contrasted the oppressive heat outside. There, as usual, sat Uncle Malric, the president of Human Government Level 2.b. His lean frame, black coat, white shirt, and magician-like hat gave him an imposing presence, yet he carried the quiet authority of someone who knew far more than he revealed.

"Good afternoon," Reinhard, Elizabeth, and Kael said in unison.

Reinhard cleared his throat, asking directly, "So, why have you summoned us, Uncle?"

Malric's expression hardened slightly. "You've always wanted to see the outside world, haven't you? Especially you, Reinhard."

A surge of curiosity and unspoken pleasure coursed through Reinhard at those words.

"I have a mission for you," Malric continued, voice steady. "You are to save the Oryn. An eight-legged, spider-like species, somewhat aggressive, endangered. If we fail… it will vanish from this world."

Reinhard's chest tightened with anticipation. In his mind, he wanted to ask where, but his lips remained sealed. Kael, ever the bold one, spoke instead.

"Where is it located?"

"Continent of Hawkins," Malric replied, calm, almost restful.

Reinhard's teeth clenched slightly, excitement flashing across his face. The Continent of Hawkins—the third continent of the world, home to species with a taste for humans, second only to one other. He had never seen it, nor the human-ruled continents. The thought of stepping outside his restricted island filled him with a pleasure he couldn't contain.

The island he called home, Noren, was almost entirely off-limits. His village, Yangpass, was one of the few places he could freely visit. And now, the first taste of freedom glimmered before him.

Malric continued, "You leave immediately, via private jet."

Reinhard blinked. Private jet. Not the public transport he'd imagined.

Kael spoke with confidence. "Rest assured, Uncle. We will return the Oryn in three days—safe, unharmed, to Yangpass."

Malric's gaze softened slightly. "I have full faith in you."

Elizabeth remained silent, anxiety shadowing her features. Weeks ago, she had learned about Hawkins in geography class—its species' biology made humans nearly prey. Though humans had treaties with the continent, she knew the risk.

Malric stood, opening a drawer and pulling out a large map. "Come. I want to show you part of the world."

They gathered around, even Elizabeth, drawn by curiosity. Malric's finger traced the contours of a small landmass.

"This—tiny, uneven, roughly two hundred thousand square kilometers—is Neuron Island. To the west lies the human-ruled continent. Far to the northeast, the Continent of Hawkins."

The map lay before them, the first glimpse into a world Reinhard had only dreamed of—a world waiting, dangerous, and utterly alive.

They all left with all the information regarding travel.
