Chapter 23 - A-Class Valkyrie

Inside the classroom.

Bella lay weakly on the desk.

On the desk were four hints provided by the system regarding the Herrscher of the Void: "Storm of Desire," "Lightning of Conquest," "Flames of Pestilence," and "Serene Death."

A month had passed since Himeko's test.

After a month of living at St. Freya, Bella gradually understood the situation of Schicksal, the organization she was now in.

In this world, Schicksal was the earliest organization to fight against Honkai, and its history of combating Honkai was very long.

Currently, besides a Bishop named Otto Apocalypse , Schicksal had only three S-Rank Valkyries, excluding Theresa.

One was named Bianca Durandal, and another was Rita.

Bella hadn't heard about the other S-Rank Valkyrie; she seemed to rarely appear in public.

It seemed Theresa's status in Schicksal was quite high.

There was also an organization called Anti-Entropy that opposed Schicksal.

Bella had seen the name of this organization on a system quest before, but she hadn't found out much about it.

She only knew that Bronya came from this organization.

Well, it could only be said that Himeko and Theresa were truly something; they even dared to take in members from an opposing organization.

But recalling that they even accepted her, a Herrscher's Dependents, it didn't seem so strange to accept people from an opposing organization, did it?

Speaking of being accepted by Himeko and Theresa.

Since the last assessment, Himeko and Theresa had continued to care for her as before.

They hadn't sought her out individually or asked her any questions.

Bella knew they had accepted her identity.

She got along very well with Kiana and the other three.

Oh, right, although she didn't defeat all the Honkai Beasts in the last Valkyrie exam, nor did she participate in the subsequent two-person confrontation assessment with Fu Hua.

However, considering the strength Bella displayed in the assessment, facing 10 Honkai Beasts, including two Temple-class ones, and slaying 8 of them in just a few minutes.

After a comprehensive evaluation, with permission from headquarters, Bella's Valkyrie rank was rated as A-rank.

That's right, Bella was now a glorious Schicksal A-rank Valkyrie!

Afterward, Fu Hua also introduced Bella to the duties of an A-rank Valkyrie.

Through Fu Hua's introduction, Bella learned that.

Compared to other Valkyrie trainees in the academy who needed Theresa's prior approval for missions.

Valkyries above A-rank had the authority to go on missions independently, and the tasks they faced were relatively difficult to handle.

Moreover, if headquarters deemed a certain Valkyrie necessary for a mission, it would be directly assigned to her, without needing to be relayed through the Valkyrie's affiliated branch.

Of course, while A-rank Valkyries handled relatively difficult tasks, they also enjoyed very generous benefits and privileges.

Firstly, a Valkyrie directly assigned a mission by headquarters would immediately become the person in charge of that mission.

She would independently handle all planning, execution, and reporting for the mission, and could also choose Valkyries she liked to form a temporary team for joint execution.

Furthermore, even if headquarters didn't issue any missions, A-rank Valkyries could receive a very generous salary each month.

Just like Bella, she hadn't received any missions this past month, but her Schicksal account now had a long string of zeros.

It had to be said, this kind of life where she could earn money by just lying around made Bella feel wonderful.

And, thinking of Kiana, who was shocked when her Valkyrie rank was announced, then immediately became motivated, shouting for Bella to wait, saying she would soon become Schicksal's strongest S-Rank Valkyrie.

Bella couldn't help but smile.

All in all, Bella had a very happy and leisurely month at St. Freya.

But—

"Sigh."

Bella once again slumped helplessly onto the desk like melting ice.

Can't find it, absolutely can't find it!

Bella had been searching for clues about the Herrscher of the Void based on the four hints given by the system.

But it had been a month of searching.

Whether searching online or in the library for information, she found nothing.

However, although she hadn't found what the system's hints meant, Bella did find some good news.

In the information Bella found, the Herrscher of the Void was eliminated by Schicksal after its birth during the Second Honkai Eruption!

Bella was happy for a while after finding out that the Herrscher of the Void had been eliminated.

At least the sword hanging over Bella's head was gone.

But the relaxed Bella then became curious about what those four hints given by the system actually were.

After all, Bella didn't believe the rewards given by the system would be useless.

Although on the surface the Herrscher of the Void was defeated, what if?

So, to be safe, Bella continued to investigate the meaning of the four hints from the system.

But, well, Bella's current slumped state here said it all.

The four hints from the system were almost becoming Bella's obsession.

Kiana curiously poked Bella, who was sprawled on the desk in front of her; Bella showed no reaction.

She turned and shouted to Raiden Mei, "Mei, come quickly, I don't know what's wrong with Bella, she's not reacting even when I poke her!"

Hearing this, Raiden Mei put down her book and walked over from her seat: "Kiana, stop messing around."

Then she turned to Bella, her tone a little worried: "Bella, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Why don't you go back to the dorm first? I'll ask Himeko Sensei for leave for you."

Bronya and Fu Hua, who were nearby, also came closer when they heard Raiden Mei's words.

"I'm fine, you don't need to worry, I just can't figure some things out," Bella waved weakly to everyone from her seat.

"Bella! Bella's eyes have turned into dead fish eyes! Mei, quick, think of something!" Kiana cried out in horror, pointing at Bella, who was gradually turning into a dried, dying salted fish.

"Ah, what, what should I do!" Raiden Mei paced anxiously in place.

At this moment, Fu Hua, who had been watching the farce unfold, showed a hint of helplessness on her serious face.

Bronya stood beside Fu Hua expressionlessly; this scene had played out many times over the past month.

She didn't know why, but ever since Bella went through the Valkyrie assessment, Bella seemed to have, let herself go?

Thinking of how gentle and pitiful Bella had looked when she first met her, a sight that would make anyone feel sympathy,

And then looking at Bella-the-salted-fish sprawled on the desk now, Bronya fell into contemplation (ᗜ ˰ ᗜ).

Just then, a piece of paper drifted to Fu Hua's feet.

Fu Hua curiously picked it up; on the paper were four sentences written in delicate script: "Storm of Desire, Lightning of Conquest, Flames of Pestilence, Serene Death."

Hearing Fu Hua's words, the noisy Kiana nearby seemed to have heard something and stopped.

She curiously leaned in: "Serene Death? I think I've heard that somewhere before."

"Hmm?" Bella-the-salted-fish flipped over and perked up her ears.

Kiana pondered deeply, finally spreading one hand and hitting it with the other, suddenly realizing:

"I remember now! Last time when I went on a mission to Singapore with the class monitor, we met an old man with a white beard."

"That old man was holding something called the Gem of Serenity, and he said 'Serene Death' back then too!"
