Getting Clara was a big win for me. But because of how I had pulled her in, I needed to shift the attention. The last thing I wanted was gossip about us spending time together. Clara was already an anomaly in the office. Quiet. Invisible. Easy to overlook.
But after speaking to her, I realized she was also the only person who knew every dirty secret Adrian had buried. His affairs. His cruelty. His threats. Everything that could crumble the image he had polished for years.
The last thing Adrian wanted was Clara talking. The worst thing he wanted was Clara talking to me.

"Did you hear Ms Hart is trying to poach Mr. Vale's assistant?"
"What, really? That weird girl with the glasses?"
"Yes. Ms Hart says she is really good at her job. And it is not odd. She already took more than half of Lena Vale's staff."
"Honestly, I wish she would poach me. I hate my manager."
