I watched Clara as she made the call to Adrian, informing him that I wanted to see him. I was glad to notice that the deep shadows under her eyes had lightened. Maybe it was because she finally had fire in her eyes now, a purpose.
I had already given her her instructions: under no circumstances was she to skip her lunch break today. And if she happened to run into Lena, and Lena questioned her like she always did about Adrian's schedule and who he was meeting, she was to mention casually that Nova was seeing him in his office.
Adrian's quick "let her in" did not surprise me. He had been sulking for days, and now the Clara rumor had given me the perfect excuse to approach him on my own terms.
"Nova, you wanted to talk?" he said as I stepped into his office.
