Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Shinichi Kudo, the Deduction Fanatic

"Do you know me?" Shinichi Kudo asked, looking at Kazuha with surprise.

"I don't know you," Kazuha replied firmly.

"Ahem, I'm Heiji Hattori from Osaka, and this is my girlfriend, Kazuha Toyama. By the way, I'm also a detective," Heiji said, standing up calmly.

"Detective? You're also a detective, like Shinichi?"

Undoubtedly, the young woman who had sat on Heiji's lap earlier was Ran Mouri. Just like in the anime, she had long hair that looked like a cloud, a beautiful and adorable face, a prominent bust, a tall, slender figure, and a pair of long, white, beautiful legs. Next to Kazuha, they were like spring orchids, each with their own charm, impossible to compare.

"Heiji Hattori, second-year student at Kaiho Academy in Osaka. The Kansai high school detective. I'm often compared to you, under the slogan 'Kudo in the East, Hattori in the West.' Your father is the head of the Osaka police, and you're an expert in kendo. Am I wrong?" Shinichi Kudo said, raising an eyebrow in a somewhat provocative tone.

"Wow, I didn't know you knew so much about me. That's right, it's me," Heiji smiled indifferently.

This guy...

Shinichi Kudo became a bit more serious inside. He had purposely emphasized that he was mentioned first, intending to provoke this high school detective who shared his fame, but he hadn't expected the other party to react so calmly.

"It seems I can't underestimate you at all."

"Same here."

They both laughed. Kazuha and Ran exchanged glances, both with a resigned expression.

Although they were laughing, Heiji didn't intend to get too close to Shinichi Kudo. In his previous life, he had been a killer, someone who took lives at will, and he naturally felt a slight aversion toward people brimming with a sense of justice.

Bad luck, Shinichi Kudo was precisely that type of person. However, his "Shinigami" attribute could be of use.

"Oh, so you're on your honeymoon!" Ran exclaimed, surprised and happy.

"Honeymoon? Heiji and I are just dating," Kazuha said shyly.

"What do you mean? Look at your red face!" Ran continued, teasing her.

"Don't talk about me. What about you and Kudo? Have you ever kissed?" Kazuha countered.

"Kissed?" Ran immediately blushed. She glanced at Shinichi Kudo, and seeing he wasn't paying attention, she felt a bit discouraged.

Shinichi Kudo wasn't interested in the girls' conversation at all. He kept talking to Heiji about various things, almost all related to cases.

He seemed particularly interested when he heard about the murder case that morning, and he asked Heiji to tell him the whole process.

Heiji told Shinichi Kudo all the clues and then went silent, leaving it to this deduction fanatic to figure out who the murderer was.

"Kazuha, we're out of drinks, please get me another one."

"Sure. Ran, wait for me, I'll be right back." Kazuha obediently ran off to buy the drinks.

"Hattori, although this might sound a bit sudden, you should really value Kazuha. She's a great girl," Ran told Heiji firmly.

"Hmm?" Heiji was a little surprised.

"Don't misunderstand me, I just think Kazuha is an amazing girl, and you should appreciate her," Ran realized she had been a bit blunt and quickly explained.

"Of course, I won't let Kazuha be sad. She'll become the happiest princess," Heiji said, a flash of tenderness in his eyes as he watched Kazuha approach.

How envious!

Seeing Heiji's gaze, Ran felt a little envious because she knew Shinichi would never look at her that way.

Unaccountably, she felt a little down.

Shinichi Kudo was still deep in thought, while Heiji, on the other hand, was chatting lively with the two girls. With his eloquence, he naturally made them laugh nonstop.

"Ah, I know! The murderer is Honda Kumaji, and the stain on the neck of the shirt was a mixture of potassium cyanide and melted water."

While the three were deep in conversation, Shinichi Kudo suddenly shouted, looking at Heiji with confidence.

What could be done?

Before this deduction fanatic, Heiji could only nod in resignation, having lost all interest in the conversation.

Kazuha looked at Shinichi Kudo with indifference, feeling a little lucky that her Heiji wasn't like that; otherwise, this date would be so boring.

"Heiji, let's ride the pendulum."

"Sure. Well, we're leaving now."

"Ran, I feel a bit sorry for you," Kazuha whispered to Ran's ear.

Watching the couple's figures walk away, embracing each other, Ran felt a mix of resignation and envy. She shot Shinichi Kudo a glare: "Shinichi, can't you just have fun with me?"

"But I'm having fun with you," Shinichi replied, completely confused by the scolding.

"Forget it, let's take a walk," said Ran, a little discouraged.

Shinichi, of course, noticed and, although he didn't understand what he had done wrong, kept apologizing.

On the pendulum ride, Kazuha hugged Heiji tightly, screaming at the top of her lungs between the whistle of the wind, filled with a mixture of excitement and fear.

"Idiot, if you're too scared to get on, why ask me to come with you?"

After getting off the pendulum ride, Kazuha's legs were shaking. She completely leaned on Heiji's body, letting him support her.

"Exactly because I'm scared, I ask you to come with me. If Heiji is with me, I'm not afraid of anything," Kazuha said sweetly.

"Idiot, in the future, measure your strength, don't act like a brave one."

Heiji was touched by her. In Kazuha's world, as long as he was present, he was her everything, and she had nothing to fear. That was a sign of how deeply she loved him.

"Okay. But I still want to ride the roller coaster," Kazuha said, looking at Heiji with expectation.

"The roller coaster, do you dare to ride it?" Heiji asked, looking at her skeptically.

"Of course I do."

"Then let's go. But don't regret it."

"I won't regret it."

The two figures, embraced, cast shadows on the ground, which grew longer and longer, until they merged into one.
