Chapter 42 - Rough night

Cole~

I pulled away, already reaching for my laptop on the dresser, I needed to send that report to the Alpha.

"Cole."

Her voice was small. Wounded. I ignored it, opening my laptop and pulling up the encrypted messaging system.

"Cole, please."

I felt her hand on my shoulder, tentative. Pleading.

"Not now, Sienna."

"When, then?" Her fingers tightened. "When will it be 'now'?

I kept typing, jaw clenched. The cursor blinked on the screen, waiting for my report about the failed capture attempt.

"Is it really that easy?" she continued, her voice breaking. "To just shut me out? To make me feel like I'm nothing?"

Something in her tone—the raw desperation—made me stop. My fingers hovered over the keys.

She thought she was nothing? Good. That's exactly where I wanted her, vulnerable, desperate, willing to accept whatever scraps I threw her way.

I closed the laptop slowly and turned to face her.
