Kevin approached Makarov: "Guild Master, can I take on that mission now?"
Makarov waved dismissively: "Yes, yes, go ahead!"
This kid is strong but stubborn; he's going to be a handful.
Just then, Mira interjected: "Wait a moment! Kevin, you're new and might not understand the mission procedures yet. I'll have Elfman accompany you."
"Elfman!"
Mira called out to her brother.
"What is it, Big Sister?"
Elfman approached promptly when summoned by his sister.
"Elfman, Kevin is new and unfamiliar with mission procedures. Please guide him."
"No problem! Leave it to the Man Elfman!" Elfman said confidently, patting his chest.
It's common for veterans to guide newcomers in the Guild.
"I'm Elfman, the Man Elfman. I'll be leading you on this mission."
"I'm Kevin. Nice to meet you."
Although familiar with the anime, Kevin was not yet accustomed to the world's intricacies. Having a veteran guide was beneficial.
"Let's prepare and depart in half an hour."
Elfman was efficient, which Kevin appreciated: "Alright!"
Elfman went home to gather his belongings, while Kevin waited at the Guild. Having suddenly arrived in this world, he had no luggage and nothing to prepare.
Mira brought a large plate of fried rice to Kevin.
"This… I didn't order anything!"
Kevin was starving but low on funds.
Mira winked playfully: "Eat! It's on the house! You can't work on an empty stomach. Besides, you earned it by winning against Natsu."
Kevin looked at Mira as if she were an angel.
Beautiful! Kind! Considerate! What a pity not to marry her!
Macao, observing Kevin's expression, said, "Sigh~! Another young man has fallen!"
Wakaba nodded: "That's normal. Who can resist how cute Little Mira is?"
Soon after, Elfman returned, and Kevin finished eating. It was the most delicious meal he'd had since arriving in this world.
Kevin and Elfman set off together. Along the way, Kevin learned that despite Elfman's large stature, he was quite talkative, sharing stories about Fairy Tail members.
Like Gray, who unknowingly stripped off his clothes.
Natsu, who always stirred up trouble.
Cana, a heavy drinker who started at thirteen. She once drank ten barrels in one sitting, consuming thirty percent of Fairy Tail's annual alcohol supply.
Loki, a notorious playboy.
Even the Guild Master wasn't spared, labeled by Elfman as a lecher with a penchant for ogling young women.
Kevin found these tales amusing, making the guild members more vivid and lively. The two quickly became acquainted.
After a day of travel, they arrived at the mission location.
"Hmm? What's all this?"
"What a grand display!"
The area was surrounded by the Ancient Knight Order of the Magic Council, tasked with apprehending criminal Mages and serving as the Council's official army.
The Knights had encircled the mansion, preventing entry.
Before Kevin and Elfman could approach, they were stopped by the Knights.
"Stop! What are you two doing?!"
"We're Mages from Fairy Tail, here for a mission."
"Fairy Tail…"
Seeing the guild emblems on Elfman's neck and Kevin's hand, the leader allowed them to pass.
"Go in!"
They followed the Knights inside.
Soon, they met the client.
"Hello, I am Kos, the Mayor and the mission client. Let's get straight to the point."
Kos placed a letter on the table.
Kevin picked it up. The envelope read:
"Three days later, your life will be taken! — Phantom Bandit Gang!"
"A threatening letter?"
Kos nodded: "Yes! The Phantom Bandit Gang has been terrorizing this city, killing wealthy merchants. The city is in panic, and many citizens are fleeing."
Elfman asked, "Can't the Ancient Knight Order catch them?"
Kos shook his head: "No, they're elusive and swift. By the time the Knights arrive, they're gone."
"This letter arrived three days ago, prompting my request to the Mage Guild."
Kevin frowned: "With so many Knights outside, they wouldn't walk into a trap, would they?"
Kos sighed: "I used to think that, but I learned about their leader's identity and changed my mind."
"The leader's identity? What is it?"
Elfman was curious.
"The Spatial Mage, King of Assassins, Camille."
"What?!"
Elfman was shocked.
"Who's that?"
Kevin hadn't heard the name, but the title sounded daunting.
"Camille is a notorious Spatial Mage, top ace of the Assassin Guild, the God Slayer Association. His magic is elusive, and he's never failed to kill, earning the title King of Assassins. After the Magic Council destroyed the God Slayer Guild, he vanished. I never expected him to lead the Phantom Bandit Gang!"
Elfman explained seriously. Camille was a dangerous veteran Mage.
"Such a guy is too dangerous; this isn't a 700,000 J mission at all."
"700,000 J?! Oh! That was the previous request! I've upgraded it to S-class, with a reward of 7,000,000 J!"
"S-class?!"
"7,000,000 J?!!"
Elfman was shocked by the S-class mission, while Kevin's mind buzzed with the reward.
1,000,000 J is like $50,000, so 7,000,000 J is $350,000!!
350,000!!
Kevin's eyes gleamed with the allure of money.
"I'm sorry, a mission like this…"
Elfman hesitated. S-class missions were perilous, meant for S-class Mages. He'd lost his sister on one, a lasting pain.
"We'll take it!"
Before Elfman could refuse, Kevin declared.
"Eh?!"
Elfman was so startled his eyes nearly popped out.
