Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Half a Year’s Progress — A Grandmaster

At the Tiandou Royal Academy's Education Committee Office.

Li Chang'an arrived there under the guidance of a teacher.

This place was located in the center of the academy's main campus and was the largest building in the area. Though it appeared to be a single-story structure, its height reached more than ten meters, giving it a grand and imposing appearance up close.

"The three Education Committee members are inside. Once you enter, don't be nervous. Just answer their questions honestly," the teacher who brought him said gently.

"I understand. Thank you, teacher," Li Chang'an replied, nodding with a well-behaved and polite expression.

The teacher smiled, nodded back, patted him on the head, and then left.

Li Chang'an pushed open the door and entered the office of the Education Committee.

He discovered that the interior was not as luxurious as he had imagined. On the contrary, despite being the working and living quarters of three mighty Soul Douluos, the place was simple and unadorned—only basic furnishings and a few green plants for decoration.

At this moment, the three committee members were working separately. When they saw him enter, their eyes lit up simultaneously, and smiles spread across their aged faces—they appeared very kind and approachable.

"I have seen the three esteemed committee members," Li Chang'an greeted them first, bowing formally in the etiquette expected of a junior in the Soul Master world. Though, as the emperor's son-in-law, he technically didn't need to perform such a grand salute, good manners never hurt—showing respect and humility was never a bad thing.

"No need for such formality," said one of them with a smile.

Seeing his modesty, all three—each estimated to be over ninety years old—smiled even wider. One of them rose from his seat and approached Li Chang'an, his expression kind. "No wonder His Majesty praises you endlessly. Indeed, you are talented and well-mannered. Come, sit and talk."

This man was Meng Shenji, the head of the Education Committee. His Martial Soul was the Black Demon, a control-type Soul Douluo at rank eighty-six with eight soul rings.

The other two were Bai Baoshan, deputy head of the committee, a defense-type Soul Douluo with the Martial Soul Heavenly Star Furnace (rank eighty-five), and Zhi Lin, the third member, a control-type Soul Douluo with the Martial Soul Azure Vine (rank eighty-three).

These three could be said to be among the most powerful figures in the Tiandou Empire. Soul Douluo-level power meant that they could freely command the battlefield—since before the appearance of Title Douluos, Soul Douluos were considered the pinnacle of strength in the Soul Master world.

Having three Soul Douluos guarding the academy demonstrated how profound the Tiandou Royal Academy's heritage truly was. If not for its policy of only admitting nobles—which led to a decadent atmosphere where many students indulged in luxury and laziness—the academy, with its superior resources, would never have fallen to the sorry state described in the original story.

As an imperial marquis and the emperor's future son-in-law, Li Chang'an's choice to enroll at this academy was undoubtedly the best one. Here, he would have access to the finest cultivation resources—training environments, teachers, and even assistance with soul ring hunts.

Emperor Xue Ye had high hopes for this future son-in-law. He had even instructed the three committee members beforehand to use the best possible resources to nurture him. His dream was for Li Chang'an to one day become a Title Douluo and bring glory to the Tiandou Empire.

After all, the Tiandou Empire currently had no Title Douluos. Compared to other powers with peak experts, the empire appeared lacking. Thus, they urgently needed someone powerful enough to represent them.

Li Chang'an, a noble by birth with astonishing innate talent, was the ideal candidate. Therefore, he was destined to receive the best treatment within the academy—better even than most princes.

The three committee members treated Li Chang'an with warmth and affection, almost like doting grandfathers. While part of this was due to the emperor's instructions, much of it was genuine admiration for his talent. A mutated Martial Soul with innate full soul power—no one doubted he would one day become a Title Douluo.

Were it not for his special status, the three Soul Douluos would have competed to take him as a disciple.

Their own strength had already reached the limit of Soul Douluo; they had no hope of ever breaking through to the Title Douluo realm. But if they could nurture a disciple who achieved that level, it would fulfill their lifelong regrets.

Unfortunately, all three were from powerful noble families themselves, already carrying political implications that could threaten imperial authority. Taking on the emperor's son-in-law as a disciple would be stepping over the emperor's bottom line.

Thus, even though they were tempted, they could not do it.

After a pleasant conversation, they could only watch regretfully as Li Chang'an followed the teacher out, heading toward his assigned dormitory.

As someone secretly instructed by the emperor to receive the best care, Li Chang'an's dormitory at Tiandou Academy was more like a private courtyard—it even had its own flower garden, pavilion, and miniature park, in stark contrast to the single-room quarters of other students.

Such treatment had previously only been reserved for princes, yet now he enjoyed it too.

And so—

Li Chang'an began his enjoyable academy life.

By day, he attended classes to learn about soul beasts, Soul Masters, etiquette, culture, and history.

All his remaining time was devoted to cultivation—training, training, and more training!

This tireless dedication made the three committee members, who secretly kept an eye on him, nod approvingly. He was only six years old—an age when most children preferred to play—yet he showed immense discipline and self-control, giving up socializing and entertainment to focus solely on study and cultivation.

A natural genius who was also this hardworking—

If such a person couldn't become a powerhouse, that would defy all logic.

So, when half a year later Li Chang'an came to report that he had reached level twenty and requested to hunt his second soul ring, the three committee members were shocked—but at the same time, they found it completely reasonable.

After all, they had all witnessed his relentless training.

Soul power was easier to advance in the early stages; it became progressively harder later.

Still, for someone to go from Martial Soul awakening to level twenty in just over half a year was unprecedented in the Tiandou Empire.

He had shattered the record for the youngest Grandmaster, which had been held by an eight-year-old—

Becoming the first six-year-old Grandmaster in history!

Although his growth speed was outrageous, considering his dedication, it felt entirely reasonable. Other children simply didn't work as hard as he did.

Perhaps this child truly possessed talent beyond even other innate full soul power Soul Masters.

This made the three committee members even more optimistic about his future. To ensure this precious genius didn't encounter any danger, Meng Shenji himself decided to personally accompany Li Chang'an to obtain his second soul ring.

A Soul Douluo escorting a six-year-old—there was no chance of an accident. Especially since they were heading not into a wild Soul Beast Forest but to a man-made Soul Hunting Forest, where the strongest soul beasts were under fifty thousand years old.

With a Soul Douluo present, there was absolutely no danger.
