Chapter 4 - Four

SABRINA

"I'll be back soon," I assured Kali but she held my arm looking into my eyes.

"What's going on? What did you see?"

"Nothing!" I lied, didn't want her to get involved for all I knew he could be dangerous I didn't want Kali to be in danger in a vampire I could defend myself but she, she was just a witch, a powerful one but doesn't have full control of her powers yet, so no, I'm not taking that chance.

"Sabrina…"

"Please, it's best if you don't know, you need to get back to the villa. I'll get back to you later and fill you in in the meantime just text me if you hear anything from my father."

Kali nodded as she let me slip out of the station to pursue the man who stole from me, his face was still stuck in my memory even though that night was hazy I still remember those pink soft lips his firm hands that grabbed my buttocks like they belonged to him, Yet I didn't know his name.

Or was I too engrossed with his charm that forget to ask? No, I was just drunk and he took advantage of that!

Father must be so disappointed in me!

Sometimes I regret ever coming out that night, I should have listened to Kali, maybe even now but then I needed to do something, I won't let this stranger slip past me again!

He walked freely across the street like he wanted to be seen, my heart raced for the fleetest moment as I followed him slinking, making sure I wasn't too close or too far from him lest I lose track.

But I noticed something else about him.

The left side of his face was bruised, almost like someone had taken a fist and carved pain into his pale white skin.

No! This wasn't me, there was no way I would have battered his handsome face, or maybe I did but just don't remember, then he decided to steal my ring as revenge.

Or maybe he messed with the wrong people and they finally put him in his place.

I had quite a lot of theories in my head but right now what was important was getting the ring back, I don't care what happened to his face.

So I followed him, every movement he made I copied, he was leading me deep into the bush, for a minute I wondered if this was a trap and he was just trying to lure me to my death, but I was willing to take that risk.

~

He didn't live in a fancy apartment, or in a mansion like I did, instead, he moved past the main road into a deserted place surrounded by bush, almost close to the bayou but not exactly the bayou, his place ended at a cabin just miles from the bayou.

Was he a werewolf?

This was new!

But one thing I couldn't understand is why a sophisticated man would live in an isolated place like the woods. He didn't strike me as that kind of person.

You are here for the ring Sabrina! I had to remind myself, I was getting carried away by his personal life and that was so unlike me.

I remained in the dark, listening, with my heightened hearing, I could tell he was arguing with a woman, whose name was Cressida, then all of a sudden the door flew open, I had to hide, the lady walked out of the cabin, angrily. But he remained inside speaking with someone who had walked in before. I wanted him or even Cressida but I won't because that's not who I came for, I peeped through the window, didn't see anything.

I waited for what seemed like almost an hour, almost dozing off when I heard an unfamiliar voice resound in the night.

"Reveal yourself, I know you're there!"

My eyes flew open, my whole body was almost paralyzed for a minute, but my instincts screamed, Get your butt up and run! Yet I stayed still.

He put one foot out the door, and I could see the silhouette of his broad figure. " You know I can literally smell you."

Oh wow! I was right, He wasn't just a man he was a wolf.

Which made things even more sense the more, he was my nemesis and he had stolen from me, his punishment should be death.

A smirk tugged on my lips as I leaned against the wall.

Things were getting even more interesting.

I let the quiet hang for a while then I ran faster than the eye could follow landing just outside the porch but he was fast to put his leg back in.

Now we are standing face to face, his handsome face staring back at me but he wasn't smiling like he would normally do, he was brooding like someone who had just lost his cat.

I didn't cross the threshold. My kind never does without an invitation. At least from him or someone inside.

I winked at him resting my hands on the railing smiling like I had just won a lottery. "Long time, stranger. I'm Sabrina, funny how you left without telling me yours, I guess you were just h*rny and wanted to drill something so bad!" I tilted my head backward, "How about you invite me in for coffee? You know, we could start on a better foot."

Still, he wasn't smiling, his eyes remained dark and observant, and then he slanted his eyes.

"I don't invite vampires in."

I swallowed hard, shocked. How did he know this? He wasn't even supposed to know vampires exist but some people do.

I grinned letting my fangs extend slowly, I intended to scare him but it wasn't working he remained unmoved. "I'm glad you know what I am," I blurted my voice laced with threat and sweetness. " That saves us both the trouble of games. But relax, I don't want trouble, I come in peace."

"I doubt that! Who are you and why are you in my territory?"

I bit my lip on my lower lip, anger already burning through my veins, I could hear his heart racing, very soon those hearts would be my dinner. But I smiled.

"I'm here because I need something you have. My daylight ring. You stole it, remember? When you seduced me, I want it back right now, so just go fetch it, and give it to me and I'll leave your little cabin, and we will pretend like none of this ever happened."

I crossed my hand over my chest while he stared at me in confusion, "First, I have no idea who you are, second, I'm not with your daylight ring."

"Are you dumb? No, you are dumb! You took advantage of me at that bar and swindled me of everything I have… and now you are acting like you have amnesia all of a sudden."

"I'm not joking," he said resting against the doorframe, "you have got the wrong person, I've never met you before and whatever you think I have, it isn't here, so I would advise you to leave."

I tilted my head staring at him in disbelief, he genuinely looked confused like he hadn't met me before but he also looked so…. Stern and steady like he was expecting me and was ready for war and that was suspicious. So it was either that he was the best liar ever met, or I was going insane.

"I know you are aware that the wolves and the vampires don't mix, you know what happens to people who try to disobey us right?" I said softly, smiling at him evilly.

He didn't flinch. "I'd advise you to leave before you find out what happens when you mess with me."

Ooh! He was feisty too, so now he could switch sides, one moment he was charming and bubbly, another moment he was calm, and confident standing his ground like a chivalrous knight. I almost wanted to lean in for a kiss, but then my patience was running thin, I still had other tasks to attend to, finding the twins.

I nodded, "Okay, I'll leave sir," I said before he could respond, my hand shot faster, dragging someone from the shadows, the girl cried, Cressida. The lady he was arguing with earlier had returned at the right time, with my snack. My pawn

Now, the only leverage I had over him.

I could hear her heart racing under my grip as I held her right, a terrified look on her face as my nails dug deep in her skin. "Save me Artemis!"

"Hmmmm, Artemis? What a sweet name!" I teased, "Now enough game, get in and get me my daylight ring or she goes down, and when I mean down, I am sucking the last drop of blood in her tiny little body."

He flinched, his jaw clenched in fear and anger, and for the first time tonight, his shell cracked.
