Three Years,
That's how long I'd been gone three long years, since I left this city and the man who broke my heart,'My Arrogant Ex-Fiance'.
Now, I was standing in the same airport, I once left crying, only this time I was smillng.
New city? No.
New me? Definitely.
When, I finally reached the mansion, I stopped at the driveway, staring at the tall glass windows and the familiar ivy climbing up the stone walls. " I missed this place more than my sleep " .
The moment I stepped inside, a loud shriek nearly burst my eardrum.
" ERICA MY BABY GIRLlllll"
My mom came running out, arms wide like she'd been waiting her whole life for this moment.
"Mom!" I laughed, trying to breathe, "air...I need air...mom".
She pulled back, teary-eyed and dramatic as ever. "You got thinner! Did they not feed you in abroad? what kind of country let's my baby girl starve?"
I smirked "Relax mom, I only skipped a few meals, mostly to avoid their
weirdo salads"
She gasped, " still sassy after three years! I should've known!".
" Still dramatic after three decades, mom" I shot back with a grin.
My mom cupped my face, "you know, the house felt so empty without you".
" Aww, that's so sweet"
" Well, mostly no one was here to argue with your father", she added innocently.
I'm burst out laughing, " Don't worry, now I'm back, I'll handle that department".
She smiled proudly, " That's my baby girl ".
Later. as we sat with coffee, she asked about my flight, my job, my life abroad, all with her usual mix of curiosity and over-the-top expressions.
" I bet you missed my cookings",she said pretending to pour, " of course" I said seriously, "Nothing can beats your food or your shouting, Mom"
" Excuse me"
" I meant your love, Mom"
She narrowed her eyes playfully, " Hmmm... that's better".
We both laughed, and for the first time in years, I felt completely..... home.
