Ruby's POV
The silence stretched like a taut wire, ready to snap.
Then someone let out a blood-curdling scream.
Kate staggered backward in terror, her legs giving out beneath her. She hit the ground hard, one hand pressed to her chest as she retched violently across the marble floor.
"Disgusting. You can't even handle the sight of blood, yet you think you're fit to rule a pack," Elias said, his tone ice-cold.
He stepped toward me, his fingers gently tilting my chin up to examine my face. "Are you hurt?"
I managed a shaky nod, my heart still hammering against my ribs. "I'm okay. Just wasn't expecting that."
What an understatement. A severed head wasn't exactly typical party fare.
"What the hell is wrong with you!" Stanley's voice cracked like a whip through the air. His face had gone completely white, and he looked ready to lose his lunch too. "Why would you bring me a damn head? And who is this poor bastard anyway?"
