Chapter 29 - The S.S. Anne? Not Even a Dog Should Go! Black World Ash Reports It Instead!

In the Black World—

The screen flickered, dimmed for a second, and text appeared: [Three days later—] Then the video resumed. Misty and Brock still hadn't managed to get tickets for the S.S. Anne. Ash thought for a moment and decided to call his childhood friend's grandfather—Professor Oak. Maybe the old man would have a way. But before Ash could even make the call, someone came knocking— Team Rocket: Female Disguise Limited Edition.jpg The moment Ash saw Jessie, he recognized her instantly. Not because her disguise was bad, but because he had his own… unique way of recognizing people. But when he looked at James—Ash's jaw nearly dropped. Wait… that's James?!A man dressed as a woman—with a chest even bigger than most actual women's?!And honestly… he looked better in drag than Jessie did.No way… did he seriously get surgery just to fool me?! Just the thought made Ash shiver, a cold dread creeping up his spine. If that were true, the man's dedication was downright terrifying. Still, Ash politely accepted the three tickets they offered—then immediately grabbed Brock and Misty and bolted.

[Koga: Hahaha! Black World Ash's thought process is really one of a kind! But seriously, you think James actually went through with a sex change? Those things didn't look fake at all!]

[James: What the hell are you talking about?! Of course not! Ever heard of prosthetic breasts? They're props! As professional disguise experts, we use all kinds of specialized equipment!]

[Lance: Hah, Black World Ash's perception is razor sharp. He instantly recognized Jessie's disguise.]

[Lance: For us viewers, it's easy since we know who's who—but for someone in the scene, Jessie and James's disguises were nearly flawless. Especially James.] [Diantha (Kalos Champion): As an actress, I'm honestly impressed… That disguise was perfect! And yes, I'm talking about James. If Ash hadn't recognized Jessie first, he probably wouldn't have noticed James at all!]

Seriously—who could have recognized them?! Not only was the skin tone different, but James's entire body had been transformed—curves, makeup, everything on point. There was no way to tell it was him.

In the Black World—

After sprinting several blocks, Ash finally stopped, panting heavily. "Huff… Ash… huff… what's with you? Why'd you suddenly take off like that?" Misty was completely out of breath. Being dragged into a full-on sprint without warning had nearly killed her. "Those two were Team Rocket's Jessie and James. Jessie I could handle, but James—just thinking about his disguise gives me goosebumps." The mental image made Ash shudder again. What kind of man dresses up as a woman just to scam people?! Where's your dignity, man?! "Huh? Jessie and James?! But… they looked nothing like them!" Misty said, eyes wide. And come to think of it—why would Team Rocket give away free tickets to the S.S. Anne anyway? Brock, meanwhile, rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "No wonder I didn't feel my usual flutter of excitement. So they really were Jessie and James…" After all, Brock had what he proudly called his "beautiful woman radar." He could recognize a Nurse Joy or an Officer Jenny from a mile away. And whenever he saw a beautiful woman, his heart rate would spike immediately. But this time? Nothing. Not a single heartbeat out of rhythm. That was suspicious. "But Ash," Brock continued, "how did you recognize them? Jessie's disguise was practically perfect." "Oh, that? Right, I forgot to explain." Ash scratched his head awkwardly before speaking. "Actually, every person has something called an aura. And everyone's aura has its own unique pattern." "Aura can be considered the source of life itself. My Aura powers allow me to sense and identify people through it. No matter how they disguise themselves, their aura can't change." "Once I've encountered someone, I automatically remember their aura's pattern. After running into Team Rocket so many times, there's no way I'd forget theirs." Misty and Brock exchanged looks of awe. So that's how it worked! They hadn't realized the scope of Aura's power was so vast. "But since those tickets came from Team Rocket," Ash said seriously, "there's no way they're clean." He carefully inspected the three tickets, but didn't find anything unusual. Still, he wasn't about to take chances. "Let's call the police. We'll tell them what happened and have them check the S.S. Anne. If everything's fine, we can go later." With that, Ash picked up the Pokémon Center's phone—and dialed 110.

[Aaron: Damn! Aura can even be used for person recognition? Then no disguise can fool Black World Ash!]

[Diantha: I thought he'd noticed a flaw in Jessie's disguise, but nope—it was pure Aura detection.]

[Caitlin: That ability is so convenient! And it doesn't even have psychic side effects? Jealous~]

[Sabrina: Aura and psychic powers are quite distinct. Even a psychic couldn't identify someone who's completely altered their appearance like that.]

[Lance: But seriously—no one's going to praise Black World Ash's caution? The moment he found out Team Rocket gave him those tickets, his first reaction was to call the police!]

[Lance: If I'm not mistaken, this means the Rockets hiding on the ship will be discovered immediately. And the people who were supposed to die during that incident? They'll be saved!]

Lance's words made everyone realize—this wasn't just a small act of "reporting suspicious activity." If the S.S. Anne had departed as planned, it would have sailed straight into a violent storm, resulting in dozens of casualties. But because of Ash's quick thinking, the ship's voyage would almost certainly be canceled— and those who would have died in that tragedy… would live. Ash Ketchum—had just indirectly saved dozens of lives.
