Chapter 53 -  Pikachu That Strong?! The Pikachu Craze Sweeps the World!

[Volkner: Wait, hold on—what the hell was that just now? "Lightning Release: Kirin"??

Forget Pikachu, I've never even heard of any Pokémon pulling off a move like that! That's

not even in the electric-type move pool!]

[Lance: That Kirin move… it harnessed the power of nature itself. Its destructive force

easily surpasses the ultimate techniques of even Elite-level Pokémon!]

Here, the so-called ultimate techniques referred to moves like Explosion, Burn Up, and

Hyper Beam—the pinnacle of destructive power among ordinary Pokémon skills. But

Pikachu wasn't even an Elite-tier Pokémon. And yet that "Kirin" move had already

surpassed that level completely—it was a power far beyond what Pikachu should've been

capable of.

[Professor Kukui: In the Alola region, we have something called Z-Moves. These are

special techniques that can only be used with a Z-Ring and a Z-Crystal.]

[Professor Kukui: They transform a Pokémon's regular attack into something entirely

new—for example, Flamethrower becomes Inferno Overdrive, with power several times,

even dozens of times greater than the base move!]

[Professor Kukui: Black Ash's "Kirin" looks very similar—it's clearly transcended the

limits of normal techniques, even beyond Pikachu's natural strength. Not even Hyper

Beam, Blast Burn, or Draco Meteor could compare!]

The Alola region was a relatively remote archipelago—most people barely knew anything

about it. To the outside world, it was a sunny resort at best, not a place of serious battles.

After all, Alola wasn't officially part of the Pokémon League, so there were no official

League Conferences or Elite Four there. Even many Champions and Elites from other

regions had never heard of Z-Crystals, Z-Rings, or Z-Moves.

So when Professor Kukui dropped his explanation, the chat exploded. They'd just

learned that somewhere out there in the world, there existed moves that could surpass

even nature itself!

[Hala: In truth, Black Ash already explained the mechanism himself. This move is

extremely demanding—requiring an electrical field, thunderclouds, and the very energy

of the natural world.]

[Hala: That's why Kirin's power is so terrifying! I'd say the amplification even exceeds

the Z-Moves of Electric types!]

What Hala didn't say out loud, however, was that the way Black Ash developed his Kirin

move… was eerily similar to how a Z-Move worked. Z-Crystals themselves were

condensed natural energy—and by linking the trainer and Pokémon's spirits through the

Z-Ring, that energy could be focused and unleashed in one cataclysmic strike. Black

Ash, however—had accomplished all that without a Z-Ring or a Z-Crystal. Just through

his and Pikachu's own connection—they'd created a move capable of shaking the

heavens. That couldn't be explained by effort alone. It required talent, intuition, and a

mind sharp enough to grasp the very essence of nature itself. "Black Ash… what a

terrifying prodigy."

On Melemele Island, Hala watched as the blacked-out screen slowly flickered back to

normal, his expression filled with awe.

[Volkner: …So, if I release my Raichu now and go catch a Pikachu, do you think I've still

got time?]

[Aaron: Wait, what?! Are you serious?]

[Volkner: Of course not! That was a figure of speech! I'd never abandon my partner. I just

mean—damn, I'm impressed! But still… maybe I will go catch a Pikachu later.]

[Blaine: Who could've guessed such terrifying energy could lie inside that tiny

Pikachu's body? I wonder… is that unique to Ash's Pikachu, or could all Pikachu hold

that kind of potential?]

[Professor Oak: Theoretically… there are always individual differences between

Pokémon. But normally, those differences wouldn't be that extreme…]

Even Professor Oak—whose knowledge was considered encyclopedic—was thrown

completely off by what he'd just witnessed. Hence his careful

phrasing—"Theoretically…" "Normally speaking…" All those hedging words betrayed

his uncertainty. He truly didn't know—Was Ash's Pikachu one-of-a-kind? Or did every

Pikachu secretly hold that same infinite potential? But his vague response had an

unintended effect— The entire world went crazy!

People all over the globe began heading into the wilds, desperate to catch a Pikachu.

Even those outside the Kanto region started booking flights—their destination: Viridian

Forest! That one dazzling, world-shattering "Kirin" attack had ignited a frenzy. Who

wouldn't want a Pikachu after seeing that?! Of course, anyone who thought it through

would realize—not every Pikachu was that Pikachu, and not every trainer was that Ash.

Meanwhile, back in Pallet Town— Ash sat in silence, watching the aftermath of the battle

on-screen. "The other me… he's trained Pikachu to such unbelievable heights. He even

created a move that could shake the heavens… Just how far ahead of me is he?" He

clenched his fists, his expression darkening.

"Am I really the same as him? Maybe… we just look alike, but deep down we're

completely different…" SLAP! A sharp sound echoed—a slender white hand had just

smacked him across the face. Ash blinked and looked up—Misty was crouching right in

front of him, eyes blazing. "What the heck are you thinking?! Don't tell me you're

doubting Pikachu—or even yourself!" Ash froze. "You idiot!" she shouted. "Didn't the

other Ash already say it? If you can't even believe in your own Pokémon, then what can

you believe in?" "There are no weak Pokémon—only weak trainers! If you give up now,

then yeah, you'll never catch up to him!"

"Think about it—you've got so many advantages he didn't! You have another version of

yourself paving the way, showing you what works and what doesn't! Do you realize how

many mistakes that saves you?!"

"Besides…" She jabbed a finger at him. "This livestream has already rewarded you with

a ton of stuff, right? If you quit here, are you really okay throwing all that away? Are you

okay letting down the other you—your teacher?!" "Or worse… are you okay letting down

Pikachu?!" "Pika! Pikapi!!" Pikachu cried, puffing his cheeks in agreement. Brock stayed

silent off to the side. Right now, there was only one person who could get through to

Ash—and that was Misty.

His best choice was to stay quiet, and let her words do the work. Gradually, light returned

to Ash's eyes—a spark of resolve, the kind born from clarity. "Thank you, Misty…

Pikachu… Brock…" "I understand now. I won't back down here. Black Ash is me, and I

am him! If he can do it, then so can I!" His voice carried both determination and faith.

(Author's Note: The "Kirin" move draws inspiration not only from Naruto's Lightning

Release: Kirin, but also from Alola's Z-Moves. Z-Moves themselves channel the energy of

nature—and Kirin works the same way. You can think of it as a more demanding,

enhanced version of a Z-Move. As for how Black Ash learned it… well, let's just say he

tinkered with the idea until it worked.)
