Chapter 1 - The Message

Tap…Tap…tap

The sound of keyboard characters being tapped was minimal but surprisingly loud enough in the void of the night within that small studio.

The computer screen showed numerous tabs open on it.

Tap…"Enter"

"Finally done with this application."

Taking a deep sigh, Ryan leans back on his chair.

"Damn, if I don't get a job by the end of this month, I might have to start selling my organs."

It was meant to be a joke, but in that small, dark studio apartment, which was practically his whole world, even the joke sounded unemployed. Getting up from his chair, slowly avoiding the trash bags and all the garbage lying around the room, he reaches toward's studio's window.

As he opened it, a slight breeze of wind touched his face. It was already pitch black outside. Looking into the darkness, he lights up a cigarette.

"Topper of class, graduated with a gold medal and a letter of recommendation. Where the hell did things go wrong? Now I can't even pay the rent for this shoebox…"

Beep…beep

As he was lost in thought, he got a notification on his phone.

It was a normal text message, but this one seemed shady. Ryan's instinct were telling him that this might be a new stupid scam targeting desperate unemployed graduates.

But he was out of option… and pride.

"Well…even if it's a scam,It's not like I got any money to lose.so let me give it a try, who knows maybe they are legitimate?"

Going at the link he filled up the details, it didn't took him long; as everything was autofilled and he just had to upload his CV.

Once submitting the application he received a message.

[ Application Received. Processing Application…]

.

.

After finishing his cigarette, he closed the window and collapsed on his bed, unaware of what was about to come.

Somewhere unknown :

….sudden noises grabs Ryan's attention, as he opened his eyes, baffled - the whole scenery had changed and his mind couldn't process what he was seeing.

He was sitting in a black suit in a hallway with people walking around.

"Did I started sleep walking or something ??" He muttered.

As his eyes wandered around to grasp the situation, they fall on a glowing terminal screen infront of him.

[ Welcome New Intern - Department of Soul Management ]

[ Please Collect you ID card from desk 2A ]

"Intern…Soul department??"

He had lot of questions, but for now, he headed toward desk 2A hoping to get some answers.

The employee behind the desk was buried in paperworks, she had large dark circles under her eyes, showing clear signs of fatigue and stress. As Ryan approached the desk, she glanced up and handed him an ID card.

"You are assigned to Unresolved Souls, Your Team Leader - Daniel will be here for you. Just sign the form 40B - Confirmation of Death."

???

"Confirmation of ….death ? What?"

The desk employee looked at Ryan and sighs..

"If you are here, that means you are already dead. Congratulations."
