Chapter 20 - Search For The Snake

(Cyrus's POV)

"Was it wise to go back and declare that?" Erys asked me as we walked down the street, "I mean, you said it yourself, My Lord. You don't trust them still."

I frowned, "Don't question my methods." I said, "I intend to test them and their motives."

He looked at me, "So...." He said, "You want to see what they would do with that information?"

I nodded, "You don't seem to understand how my abilities work." He said, "If my body was constantly flames, then everything around me would be burning. It is intangible when I wish for it to be."

"I see...." he said, "Such a magnificent power for someone as yourself."

"I'm no god." I said seriously

"You are too humble, My Lord." He said, "To wield the power of flames is to wield the power of light. You are the Lord of Light and we follow you till the end."

"Hm..." I said as we reached a group of Knights

In front of them, Prince Aemon was standing, looking at me with a serious expression.

"Lord Cyrus." He said as we reached them, "I was informed by the King that you are to join us on the search for the criminal known as the Snake."

I nodded, "Yes." i said as I looked at the knights, "Is this all you got?"

They shifted with unease, glaring at me with their serious expressions.

"These fine men will cleanse the street of the Snake's filth." Aemon said, "You must not worry about that at all."

"I'll be the judge of that." I said seriously

"You seem awfully composed." Aemon said as he had his hand on the handle of his sword, "The first time we met, you kept running away."

"Hm." I said, "To keep you from dying recklessly."

He narrowed his eyes, "Is that so?"

"You draw your sword or any other weapon and you swing at me, what do you think would have happened?" I asked, "Flames would erupt from this body and will burn you. You may ride dragons, but you are still flesh. Your armor would be melted around your body, giving you an agonizing fate."

He turned around, "If that is what you think." He said as he walked, "Let us go."

Erys looked at me, "My Lord." He said as Aemon and the others walked further ahead of us, "You have the power to kill these men when they chased you. Why were you worried about their well-being?"

I looked at him, "I was running around like a headless chicken because of one reason only." I said, pointing at my head, "My mind was scrambled. Do you have any idea what it is like to appear in a foreign place, with your mind completely scrambled. You are unaware of yourself and you don't want to cause unwanted chaos. If I had not run, the Prince of House Targaryen would have died. If I didn't leave the location where they attacked me with their dragon, another Prince and his wife would have also died. I did it simply because I decided to spare them. One might think of it as cowardly but confusion is not cowardice, only fools and mindless imbeciles would think like that."

Erys frowned, "I see....."

I mean, that is true. I was confused. I awoke on a beach, immediately discovering that I had a Flame Logia ability, unable to be harmed by conventional attacks. I learned that I could pretty much wield the flame powers with ease, but I was still being attacked by the damned Dragonlords. I didn't want to accidentally kill them. What have they done to deserve that? Maybe they do deserve it, but I don't know that.

And killing a Royal would only cause conflict that would further complicate things. For now, I must cement my position. If these cultists see me as their god, I must use whatever resources they have to place myself in a higher position. I need to be able to do what I decided to do; to cleanse filth with my flames.

It has to happen.

I won't let the same things happen again, I don't want to be that weak. I.....

"Hm..." I said

I need to be strong. Mentally and emotionally. If I wield this power recklessly, it could end badly for everyone.

"Well...." Erys said, "After we deal with this Snake, Lady Mira will more than likely join us. Then, we will take it from there."

"Take it from there?" I asked, "What do you mean?"

"There were many plans you had for us, My Lord." Erys looked at us, "As your humble servants, we are to enact them."

"Hm." I said with a frown,

"Sure...I guess so."

***************

"Where the fuck is he?!" the Knight said as he slammed the thief against the wall, "The Snake?!"

"I don't know no snake!!" the Man exclaimed, "What do you want from me?"

"At Fleabottom, you were spotted running out of the building where the child fighting ring was taking place." Aemon said as he stood behind the Knight, "Do not deny it, we saw you."

"But...." The thief said, "I don't know any Snake! I swear it!"

"You little rats stick together after all." the Knight said as he grabbed his shirt, "You will speak."

"Prince Aemon is a man of honor!" He said, "He wouldn't just allow you to torture information out of me. Especially if it is information I don't have!"

A knight that was next to Aemon looked at the Prince while Erys and I stood behind them, "This is the fifth one that won't speak." He said, "At this point, we won't get anywhere. There is a good chance the Snake will hear of this and will either hide or leave the City."

"He won't leave." I said seriously

Aemon looked at me, "What makes you so sure about that?"

"He has a good Criminal Empire here." I said, "A vast city where he can work in the shadows. He rules by fear, I am sure. These thieves are more afraid of him than you, it is quite obvious. He will remain in hiding, having his eyes and ears all around the streets that he certainly knows better than us."

Aemon frowned, "Then what do you suggest, Lord of Light?"

He said the last part sarcastically, which Erys didn't appreciate.

"You may be a Prince." Erys said, "But I suggest you speak to Our Lord with more respect."

"Hm." Aemon said

"The Red God has no dominion here." The other knight said, "The Seven reign here."

"Sure." I said as I stepped forward, "If you say so. You are going about this the wrong way. You shouldn't look for the Snake. Look for the fool that works under him."

I raised my hand and sprouted flames as I looked at the thief, whose eyes widened in shock and fear.

"No....!!" He squirmed as the Knight held him

"Karl. The one running the fighting ring." I said seriously,

"Where is he?"
