Chapter 5 - War.

I floated in the air as I looked down at the elven woman, luckily, thanks to my Godcore and the faith energy, I could pretend to be an ancient dragon and gain these peoples respect. I will now have to keep this up until I become a god... Actually it might be a blessing in disguise...

The woman seemed to want to make some kind of deal, I was apprehensive at first, pretending to know what the hell she was on about. I then consulted with my resident expert on all things alien to me.

'System, what is she on about?' I spoke within.

"Host, a Magical Contract is what it sounds like, a contract that two beings that have magic can use, to bind themselves to an agreement. It is not used much between mortals anymore, but anyone powerful enough like a supposed ancient dragon and this... elven woman, is still used regularly in this context in the world. Once bound, the two have to fulfil their side of the agreement, otherwise they will be stuck down by the very laws of the world."

I greedily devoured the information the system provided, before voicing my intent.

"Very well. I will agree, only if you can provide a worth while reason to."

The elven woman seemed to ponder something, hurriedly, as she still glanced off in the direction of the battle.

"In exchange for your help in this war against the humans and their damn theocracy, I will grant you any wish."

The elders faces seemed to pale, even more, as the system responded smugly in my head.

"Damn that woman gave you a hell of a deal, this kind of deal is near enough unheard of at this level of contracts. She must be desperate to win for some reason."

I thought, really thought for a moment, as I weighed her words in my mind. Before putting on my ancient dragon persona.

"Very well, mortal. I will accept."

Suddenly, a very thin light thread shot out of both of us, as it met in the middle, and the deal was seemingly complete.

"Tell me of this so called war of yours." I spoke succinctly.

The elders all fell to the floor, with expressions of resignation, as I spoke, I ignored them and focused on getting the full story from this otherworldly beauty.

Her voice, soft and almost cold, like an aloof ice queen, spoke quickly.

"You may not know this, but a war between the elves and humans has been ongoing near enough since the fall out of the war, that put the gods into slumber, we have been on the losing end for the most part, without our goddess. We used to be the dominant race on the continent, but now, we are pushed back to this forest, where only a few million of us are left. If we lose this war, we will continue to be pushed back, until... we are wiped out!"

Hmm, that is quite the tragic story.

"There is currently a city that is situated in the middle of the continent, it was originally a theocracy held city, but us and them, for years, have been fighting for control of it, we recently lost that control and suffered a massive defeat, causing us to now be pushed back to the forest. We need to take it back if we are to hold back our decline."

I spoke confidently, as I did the very air seemed to bend in submission.

"Very well. I will go and fulfil our deal, ensure you do too." I said with some arrogance, befitting a dragon of my stature.

"Of course." She said simply and almost robotically.
