Chapter 1 - Prologue: My classmate is a genius little girl who is only fond of me

Yagami Kagami @ Toma Volume 2 & Shimotsuki-san Volumes 1-5

There is a little girl in my class.

Her name is Hoshimiya Hime. She is an eight-year-old girl with long, beautiful white hair and striking blood-red eyes.

Just because she looks young doesn't mean she's actually a high school student.

She is eight years old, which should be around the age of a second-grader in elementary school, and yet she is attending the same second-grader class as me.

The reason why this is the case is that Hoshimiya Hime is a "genius little girl" who has skipped grades.

 She's just so strange.

Despite her adorable, childish appearance, her mind is the smartest of anyone. Her calm demeanor makes it hard to believe she's only eight years old, and that's why...she's hard to approach.

Until yesterday, I thought the same thing.

"H-Hoshimiya-san, good morning."

"...Thank you"

In the morning classroom, Hoshimiya's classmates greeted her as she arrived at school.

However, Hoshimiya-san just nodded expressionlessly and walked straight to her seat without returning my gaze.

Then, as usual, Hoshimiya-san sat in the seat next to me... and began reading a book in silence.

While at school, she basically spends her time reading books like this: thick English books that look difficult at first glance.

 -Don't get in the way.

Her mind is filled with the potential to change the future of Japan...no, the world. That's why it's an unspoken rule in our class to keep quiet in the classroom so that Hoshimiya-san can concentrate.

 So I kept quiet too.

"...Yohei-kun, why didn't you say anything?"

To my surprise, she spoke to me.

"We chatted so much yesterday."

Moreover, Hoshimiya-san is puffing out her cheeks as if she is sulking.

Although she usually has a blank expression, she showed an adorable expression to me, like a young girl her age.

"Um, I thought it would be best not to disturb you while you're reading..."

"Huh? Yohei, it's wonderful that you're so considerate. I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you were ignoring me."

"There's no way I'd ignore you."

"Really?! Wow, I'm so happy...!"

Upon hearing my words, Hoshimiya-san's sulky expression changed completely.

He breathed a sigh of relief, then gave a soft smile.

"Well, I won't be bringing my books from tomorrow, so would it be okay if you talked to me? I'm not good at talking to people, so I'd prefer if you could just casually talk to me, Yohei."

"N-no. I know it's bad to interrupt you, but... I think it would be more meaningful to spend your time reading than talking with someone like me."

"There is nothing in this world more meaningful than chatting with Youhei. In fact, books are more of a nuisance."

With that, Hoshimiya-san put the book away in her desk. She then stood up, walked over to me, and sat on my lap.

"That being said, I'll have some time to chat with Youhei."

"H-Hoshimiya-san... you stand out! Everyone is looking at you."

It was rare to see her open her mouth.

My classmates had been staring at me for a while, but now that she's sat on my lap... things have gotten a lot more noisy all of a sudden.

"Hey, hey! Hoshimiya-san is having a conversation!?"

"And he's talking to a mob-like guy like that!"

"Damn it. You're just a mobster... I want you to sit on my lap too."

Hey, calling me a mob character is an exaggeration. I do realize that I am a mob character! And who's that last guy? I'll never let you get close to Hoshimiya-san!

...But I'm curious about my classmates.

However, Hoshimiya doesn't seem to care about the gazes of those around her.

"Now that I think of it... why do you call me by my last name? It's not Hoshimiya. I actually have a name, Hime. Please call me by my first name. Youhei-kun, you're older than me, so can't you even do that?"

Rather, he seemed to care about how he was called.

"Actually, since Youhei-kun is going to marry Hijiri-oneechan, I think it would be a good idea to practice calling her by her name so that we can properly distinguish between them."

 That's true.

For some reason, this girl seems to like me... and she's strongly encouraging me to marry her sister.

"My sister and I will even have the same last name. And now I can become your sister-in-law. I can't wait for that day."

"You're being hasty! I mean, I haven't even decided to marry Hoshimiya-san's sister yet."

"No. I'm not Hoshimiya. If you don't call me by my name, I'll just continue with my class, okay?"

Saying this, Hoshimiya-san pushed me deeper into the chair. Perhaps it was to signal that she wasn't going to move... I was a little put off by having her squishy body pressed up against me.

I don't mind it, but it's embarrassing because everyone can see it.

So, although it's embarrassing to call a girl by her first name... she's still young, so it's probably better. I made up my mind and decided to call her by her first name.

"Ahem...Hime. Is this okay?"

"...Hehehe ♪ Yohei-kun called me by my first name. I guess I have no choice but to make him take responsibility and become his sister-in-law."

"I wonder why that is."

"Ah, but I feel comfortable on your lap, so I'll be taking class here today."

"That's not what we said."

...Why has it come to this?!

Until yesterday, he was living an ordinary school life, just like Mob A in high school.

After chatting with her after school... my life seems to have changed drastically.
