Chapter 31: Are You Crazy? Actually Going Into Impel Down

"So, what's your purpose," Garp asked, suddenly solemn.

A powerful young man had beaten a Celestial Dragon and not run. He was even waiting for the Navy. Such a person was no lunatic or fool. Either he hid ambition deep within, or he had another aim entirely.

Garp studied Satan. Proud and languid. Not especially burly, yet he exuded a noble, domineering air. For some reason Garp sensed a power within him that hadn't yet erupted. If it did, it might even threaten him. He only felt that kind of pressure from the old guard of pirates. This was no madman and no fool. Which left one possibility: another purpose.

"So even the rough Marine Hero Garp can be meticulous."

"No, how could I have any purpose at all.

"Lock me up in Impel Down."

Satan shrugged and held his hands out as if they were already bound.

Impel Down, the greatest prison in the pirate world. It lies in the Calm Belt on the first half of the Grand Line, its security unimaginably tight. It holds only the worst criminals. The place is gloomy and horrific, with monster jailers and surveillance Den Den Mushi everywhere. In the seas outside, hordes of giant Sea Kings roam, giving Impel Down its reputation as an iron fortress.

Infiltrating Impel Down is incredibly difficult. That was why Satan had Shanks drop him at Sabaody Archipelago. He was waiting for the right moment, beat a Celestial Dragon, then ride the tide straight into Impel Down. Now the chance had finally arrived.

"You want to go to Impel Down," Garp blurted.

Impel Down is a pirate's nightmare. Everyone dreams of escaping it. Now someone wanted in.

The Marines stared at one another.

"He wants to go to Impel Down. First time I've heard that."

"Exactly. It's a pirate's nightmare. The guy's not right in the head."

"Would someone sane hit a Celestial Dragon? He didn't even run. Now he's asking for Impel Down."

"Eighty percent chance he's crazy."

"I've heard Impel Down is great, full of talent, and everyone speaks so nicely. I've no family in this world anyway. I'll absolutely love it there. How about arresting me and sending me in," Satan said with a grin.

Impel Down is the world's largest concentration of the most vicious criminals. Their desires are bound to be strong. If he wanted to grow stronger by harvesting the Seven Deadly Sins, what place could be better than Impel Down.

"Treat Impel Down like your home. In and out as you please. You assaulted a Celestial Dragon. You should be executed," the Marine commander barked again, throwing a fawning glance at Saint Charlos.

"You don't get to make that call, little Marine. What do you say, Garp. Choose to send me to Impel Down. I'll stir up a storm in there, and then you can throw me in a cell," Satan said, smiling.

Light bloomed in his palm again, a fireball burning like the sun.

"Damn you," the Marine commander roared. "I am Brigadier General Bray of Marine Headquarters."

As a Brigadier General, his station was exalted. To be called a little Marine enraged him. He wanted to cut Satan down on the spot, but after Satan's earlier display he didn't dare step forward. Otherwise he'd share the Marines' fate from moments ago.

"So, Garp. What's your choice," Satan asked mildly. He was fully prepared. Impel Down was happening.

"Truth is, I'm on vacation. For something this important, we ask Sengoku," Garp said, scratching the back of his head with a laugh, neatly changing the subject.

"Then call him. If you keep stalling, my hands are going to itch. And when they itch, I start breaking things," Satan said evenly.

The Marines erupted in fury.

"You dare threaten the Navy."

"Bastard, the Marine Hero is right here."

"Vice Admiral Garp, let me engage him."

Satan dared to threaten the Navy.

"Garp, Marines. I order you to have him thrown into Impel Down. I want him to live worse than death," Saint Charlos screamed at the same time.

Only Satan wore a wicked smile. Pawns do have their uses, so rewriting his memories hadn't been a waste.
