Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: A Different Tier from Ultimate—MEGA! Decode the Prophecy!

The light-screen cut again.

That suffocating colossus, VenomMyotismon, finally moved.

"Agumon!"

"Gabumon!"

Tai and Matt roared almost at the same time.

No hesitation. Faced with this nameless terror, the only choice was to fight.

"Agumon, digivolve—!"

"Gabumon, digivolve—!"

Blazing evolution light speared the sky, two blades ripping through despair beneath the night.

Orange skin vanished under mechanical armor. Steel talons gleamed. Torn back-wings spat flame.

MetalGreymon!

Lean limbs rose onto two feet. Purple fur bristled over bulging muscle. Claws like knives. Eyes like lightning.

WereGarurumon!

Two Ultimate-level Digimon looked tiny before VenomMyotismon's mountain of a body.

But in their eyes there was no retreat. Only burning will to fight.

"Go, Matt!" Tai bellowed.

"Didn't need you to say it!" Matt shot back.

"Kaiser Nail!"

WereGarurumon blurred to the limit, a blue-violet bolt. He vaulted high, kicked off the air at an impossible angle, and raked straight for VenomMyotismon's flank.

Claws that could rend steel shrieked through the air and smashed down on that gray-white carapace.

SKREEE—!

Metal screamed so sharp it pierced the eardrum.

Sparks flew.

The result chilled every spine.

WereGarurumon's full-power strike left only a few faint, almost invisible scratches.

"What?!" Matt's pupils snapped tight.

"RRRAAAH—!"

VenomMyotismon did not even lower its head. Just a bored, low growl.

"It's not over yet!" Tai's shout followed.

"MetalGreymon—Giga Destroyer!"

The chest doors snapped open. Two missiles, packed with terrifying energy, trailed long tails of fire and slammed head-on into VenomMyotismon's chest.

BOOOOOM—!!

A violent blast.

Fire sky-high. Smoke rolling. A shockwave shattered every window nearby.

"Did it work?!" Mimi clapped both hands over her mouth.

The smoke thinned.

That towering figure still stood.

Untouched.

Not even a step back.

"Th-this… can't be…" For the first time, Tai's face went white.

Annoyed at last by the two "flies," VenomMyotismon slowly raised a house-sized fist. The motion was unhurried, yet its pressure crushed the lungs. It swatted at MetalGreymon, who hovered midair.

As if batting a gnat.

"Dodge!!" Tai's scream tore his throat.

Too late.

THUD—!!

One sickening, heavy impact.

MetalGreymon's sturdy metal body was paper before that fist.

He became an orange shooting star, blown through three buildings in a row, finally cratering a ruin and throwing up a wall of dust.

"Tai!"

"Big bro!"

Everyone froze.

One hit.

Just one hit.

The mighty MetalGreymon was swatted aside in an instant.

[Digimon Savers World]

"Holy—!" Marcus Damon sprang from his chair, eyes bulging. "You kidding me?! MetalGreymon just—got launched like that?!"

At his side, Agumon S. yelped too. "That power is nuts! Boss! Worse than Yggdrasill's punishment!"

Gallantmon gripped his holy lance, expression deadly sober. "Different strata of power. Between Ultimate and Mega yawns an unbridgeable chasm. Tactics and courage cannot cover that gap."

"So this is Mega…" Craniummon's voice held rare shock. "Pure, overwhelming force. Technique loses all meaning before it."

Alphamon's golden eyes reflected the battle. "Worse, VenomMyotismon has no reason. It is a composite of pure destruction. Such an enemy is more troublesome than any intelligent Demon Lord."

[Pokémon World]

"Heavens!" Misty and May cried together, faces pale.

"T-too much…" Brock adjusted his glasses, disbelief in his eyes. "That MetalGreymon looked so strong, yet… couldn't take a single blow?"

"Pika…" Pikachu's ears drooped on Ash's shoulder, clearly shaken.

Ash squeezed his fist, palms slick with sweat. "So strong… that thing is so strong… How can Tai and the others win?"

Professor Oak wrote solemnly. "Biology and energy beyond comprehension. This destructive scale exceeds our world's 'power' definition. This is… a disaster-class entity."

The footage continued.

[Digimon Adventure (1999) World]

"Kari!"

"T.K.!"

They watched their brothers sink into a desperate fight, hearts on fire.

"Patamon!"

"Gatomon!"

"We're going too!"

Gold and rose light crossed and bloomed.

"Patamon, digivolve—Angemon!"

"Gatomon, digivolve—Angewomon!"

A holy six-winged angel and a beautiful eight-winged goddess entered the field together.

Banes of darkness. Avatars of the sacred.

"Heaven's Knuckle!"

Angemon swung the golden holy staff, condensing a golden fist that howled toward VenomMyotismon.

"Celestial Arrow!"

Angewomon drew a bow of light. A shaft gathered all brightness and purity and flew after the first strike, straight to the same target.

Two attacks that embodied sanctity and hope hit true.

Despair followed.

At contact, a visible dark barrier surfaced over its body.

The holy fist and arrow sank like stones in the sea, swallowed by bottomless night without a ripple.

"How…?" T.K. stood stunned. "Angemon's power…"

"Doesn't work on it?" Kari's voice trembled toward a sob.

VenomMyotismon loosed a taunting growl.

Its abyssal maw yawned.

"— Venom Stream"

A flood of murky green energy, stinking and ominous, burst forth toward the kids' position.

Where it passed, concrete and rebar melted at once, collapsing into reeking sludge.

"Run!"

"Protect the kids!"

Angemon and Angewomon didn't hesitate. They flared their wings wide, two white shields before everyone.

BOOOOM—!!

The toxic torrent hammered the sacred wings.

ZZZZZ—

Corrosion screeched. Snow-white feathers blackened and withered visibly.

"Graaah!"

"Ungh—"

Their bodies shook with pain. Their light dimmed fast.

When the vile stream ended, both had spent everything, falling from the sky, nearly dropping straight to In-Training.

The world fell into deathly silence.

The last hope—holy power—had failed.

"H-how… how can this be…" Joe clutched his head on the verge of collapse.

At that moment, Izzy's laptop shrieked.

Sweat poured as he hammered the keys. On-screen, one analyzed line glared in blood-red letters before all eyes:

[Energy Grade: MEGA]

"M-Mega…?" Sora echoed, voice shaking.

No one spoke.

But every face read the same thing.

Despair.

For the first time, in the truest sense, they faced the "Mega" of legend—

An enemy they had no way to defeat.

[Digimon Tamers World]

"Mega…" Takato stared at those three letters, numb. "So this is… Mega? Not even the same dimension as anything we saw before…"

Beside him, Guilmon hid and whispered, "Takato… so scary…"

Rika's face was ashen. She bit her lip and said nothing.

"Rika?" Renamon looked at her, worried.

"…Shut it." Two words ground between Rika's teeth, but her slight trembling fingers betrayed her unrest.

Henry pushed his glasses. "The data volume is overflowing. Izzy's machine is hitting analysis limits. This isn't a fight, it's one-sided… crushing."

Ryo, silent till now, finally spoke, voice more solemn than ever. "I've crossed blades with Megas. None ever gave this pressure. This thing is a monster."

[Digimon Adventure tri. World]

"Hahahaha! Yes! Those faces! That's the look I wanted!"

The man disguised as Gennai cackled at the kids' despair on the screen.

"See, Tai!" he jabbed a finger at tri-Tai. "This was you! Helpless! Weak! Watching your comrades trampled!"

"Sacred power is a joke before absolute darkness! Hahahaha!"

Tri-Tai shut his eyes. His fists clenched so hard the knuckles went white.

Beside him, WarGreymon rumbled. Gold armor crackled with arcs.

"This is… what Tai faced…" Jesmon murmured, shaken.

Alphamon only watched in silence, gaze growing deeper.

The picture shifted again.

[Digimon Adventure (1999) World]

Despair weighed on every heart.

"Why… why didn't the holy power work?" Joe clutched his head, mind near collapse. "Didn't the prophecy say: 'When the angels appear, shoot the arrow of hope and miracle into the one most loved by those they guard'?"

"The arrow? They shot it! Why didn't it work?!"

He voiced what all felt.

Drenched in sweat, Izzy forced himself calm, fingers flying while his mind raced faster than ever.

Prophecy… the prophecy…

He chewed each line.

"'Angels appear'… that's Angemon and Angewomon, right."

"'Those they guard'… Angemon guards T.K., Angewomon guards Kari. Right."

"'The one most loved'… T.K. treasures his brother, Matt. Kari depends most on her brother, Tai. Also right!"

"'Shoot… the arrow'…"

Izzy froze.

A thunderbolt—absurd, impossible—split his mind.

Shoot an arrow…

At… the one most loved?

Not the enemy?

But at… Tai and Matt?!

"I've got it!" Izzy snapped his head up and shouted with everything he had.

"The prophecy isn't telling Angewomon to attack VenomMyotismon!"

"The target for that 'arrow' isn't the enemy!"

"It's Tai! It's Matt!"

"The holy power of Angemon and Angewomon must be passed to them through the arrow!"

The conclusion struck like a bomb.

"What?!"

"Have Angewomon shoot Tai?"

"Have Angemon hit Matt?"

"Izzy, are you burning up? How is that even—"

It overturned everything they knew.

Have a sacred arrow strike your own teammates?

Is that saving or killing?

Yet while shock and doubt reigned, the tremendous VenomMyotismon had begun to move again.

It trudged toward the International Exhibition Center not far away.

There, tens of thousands of civilians still remained.

It would feed on their energy and grow even stronger.

There was no time left to hesitate.

"Matt!"

Tai suddenly shouted. He spun, grabbed Matt, and shoved him hard toward Angemon.

"Do it—like he said!"

Matt stumbled, then looked back, stunned.

Tai's eyes did not waver. Only a burn-the-boats resolve.

"Trust Izzy!"

"And trust our Digimon!"

Matt met Tai's gaze, and the fire there lit his own.

No more questions.

He just nodded. Hard.

"Right!"

Their eyes met midair.

Words were useless in that instant.

That trust—fighting shoulder to shoulder, life and death shared—surpassed everything.
