[On-screen]
The view shifted.
The vast shadow of Spiral Mountain hung over the sea like a tombstone fallen from the sky, pressing down without mercy.
The DigiDestined had just poked their heads out from Whamon's blowhole, gulping the salty fresh air.
Their taut nerves had no time to loosen.
From beneath the surface came a violent, heart-jolting tremor.
[Xros Wars World]
"So… this is their stronghold?" Akari Hinomoto swallowed, face drained.
Taiki Kudo frowned, eyes locked on the twisted, grotesque massif on the screen.
"The terrain is vicious. Almost nowhere to hide."
"Then it's a dead end!" Shoutmon growled, agitated.
[Pokémon World]
"Whoa! That mountain's so weird!" Ash couldn't help shouting.
Brock pushed up his glasses, more serious than ever. "That's no natural range. It looks like… energy made manifest. Ominous."
At the lab, Professor Oak muttered at his data display, "An incredible ecology. It defies the physical laws we know."
On screen—
Taichi Yagami braced a hand on Whamon's slick, wet skin and strained to peer into the distance.
He suddenly pointed and shouted with all his strength.
"What's that?!"
Every gaze snapped that way.
Far across the sea's horizon, a silvery-gray metal shape knifed through the waves—
So fast it traced a long white scar across the surface.
One of the Dark Masters: MetalSeadramon.
Its giant electronic eyes flashed a cold, merciless red. Behind it swarmed dozens of Digimon clutching trident-like harpoons—Divermon—packed tight enough to make one's scalp prickle.
[02 World]
"It's MetalSeadramon! That creep's here!" Davis slammed a fist on the table.
Veemon bounded up and down beside him. "Davis, calm down! They're in real danger!"
Ken Ichijouji's face sank. "They couldn't win one-on-one. Now he's brought an army… He means to wipe them out."
In the corner, BlackWarGreymon stared at the screen, black metal fingers tightening without thinking.
Azulongmon's solemn voice echoed, "The calamity has only just begun."
[Savers World]
"Oh? Finally, something worthy." Marcus Damon didn't tense up—he flexed his fists, bones cracking like firecrackers.
"Boss! That one looks tough!" Agumon S was just as eager.
Before the Royal Knights' screen—
Gallantmon Crimson Mode spoke calmly, "An army. The Dark Masters won't allow the children a single breath."
Alphamon said nothing, only watched.
Craniummon snorted. "Many against few—hardly the mark of the strong."
On screen, MetalSeadramon's voice boomed like thunder from the abyssal deeps.
"DigiDestined… this time there is nowhere to run!"
Before the words had faded, its massive super-alloy tail fin cracked like a whip.
"Boom!"
A towering wave, dozens of meters high, reared up like a moving wall of water, sweeping toward Whamon with annihilating force.
At the split second before impact—
Whamon let out a long cry and dove, body surging downward in a sudden burst.
Carving a graceful arc through the water, he put his broad back between the terror of the wave and the children, holding it at bay.
"Hide back inside me!"
Whamon's urgent voice resonated from within.
The kids didn't dare hesitate. Hands and feet scrambling, they plunged down the opened passage, back into that familiar, safe belly.
Garudamon and WereGarurumon stayed outside on guard.
But the swarm of Divermon had already rushed in, their harpoons turning into a rain like a sky full of arrows, shrieking as they tore the water.
Driven back step by step by the dense assault, the two Ultimate-level Digimon couldn't mount an effective counter.
[Frontier World]
"Damn it! Cowards!" Takuya Kanbara cursed. "Bleeding them with grunts!"
Kouji Minamoto's voice was cold. "This is war. There are no rules."
Zoe Orimoto watched, worried. "Garudamon and WereGarurumon can't hold much longer!"
In the dark, Lucemon's will purred with pleasure. "Despair? Pain? Good… Let me grind that pitiful hope of yours to dust."
The view shifted again.
Back inside Whamon, the dim chamber held only the heavy, ragged breaths of Digimon.
Matt Ishida leaned against the soft inner wall, fingertips rubbing his cold Digivice without thinking.
He lowered his head, voice thick with bitterness and doubt.
"Even WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon at Mega couldn't beat them…"
"Can we… really win?"
The words dropped like a boulder onto every heart.
The air went leaden in an instant, as if even the oxygen had congealed.
Taichi stepped forward at once and clapped his shoulder hard.
"Don't give up."
His voice wasn't loud, but it was unshakable.
"Piximon told us! What we lack is courage and conviction! If we haven't tried, how do we know we can't!"
Just then—
Gomamon suddenly hopped from Joe Kido's arms. Pressing an ear to the wall, he listened hard.
"This is bad!"
He cried out in panic.
"The fish outside say there's a huge force two hundred kilometers behind us! Divermon are moving to encircle! All under MetalSeadramon!"
[Digimon tri World]
"The net… is closing," Jesmon said, low.
Alphamon's gaze seemed to pierce the screen, calculating. "At Whamon's speed, he can't break through before the ring seals."
On another feed, "Gennai" (impostor) showed a warped smile.
"A mouse in a cage. Run as fast as you like—you're still running in a cage."
Tri-world Taichi and WarGreymon watched the boy who looked so much like them yet so young. Their feelings knotted beyond words.
Whamon's steady voice sounded in the children's minds.
"I'll take us down into the deep-sea trench. The pressure there can block their tracking for a time."
Whamon's vast body began a slow descent.
The light around them dimmed, then vanished into pitch black.
The water turned frigid. Needle-cold seeped through the walls, making the kids hug their arms tight.
Izzy Izumi snapped open his pineapple-brand laptop and tapped into Whamon's visual system to watch outside.
On the screen, only swaying nightmare kelp and the occasional flicker of tiny, glowing fish.
However—
Just as they neared the trench floor—
A searing blue beam of energy stabbed out of the abyss without warning, splitting the darkness.
MetalSeadramon. It had caught up.
"River of Power!"
In the deep sea its force doubled, barely checked by water at all.
It skimmed past Whamon's flank by a hair, kicking up a boiling cloud of bubbles.
The water it touched flashed to steam, a momentary vacuum yawning in its wake.
[Cyber Sleuth World]
Kyoko Kuremi lifted her special blend and blew on it lightly, eyes sharp behind her lenses.
"Using high pressure to bind and shape the beam for greater penetration. This MetalSeadramon has mastered both its ability and its environment."
Nokia Shiramine clutched her plush in a panic.
Arata Sanada's fingers flew. Data storms danced across the monitor. "Energy attenuation is thirty percent lower than in air! Under deep-sea conditions, its destructive power is higher!"
"Hold tight!"
Whamon roared in pain and spun hard.
In the deep, his massive body whipped up an unimaginable riptide tsunami.
The force scattered the pursuing Divermon, breaking their formation and stalling their assault.
"We can't keep hiding!"
Flames burned in Taichi's eyes.
"At this rate, Whamon will be dragged under!"
He raised his Digivice high.
"Agumon—evolve!"
Orange light burst from the Digivice, flooding the dim chamber with brilliance.
Agumon climbed evolution's ladder—Greymon, MetalGreymon…
At last, orange-yellow armor shattered and reformed, becoming a Mega warrior in red-lined plates, bearing the Dramon killers.
WarGreymon!
He burst from Whamon's body and hovered in the black deep, fists clenched, loosing a thunderous roar at MetalSeadramon in the near dark.
"Your opponent is me!"
[Tamers World]
"Tai's going in!" Takato Matsuki sprang to his feet.
Guilmon shouted with him, "WarGreymon! Go!"
Rika Nonaka folded her arms, face cool. "Reckless. The enemy owns this field."
Henry Wong pushed his glasses. "He has no choice. It's the only break."
Ryo Akiyama's eyes showed approval. "To do what must be done despite the odds—that's a DigiDestined."
MetalSeadramon eyed the much smaller warrior and let out a metallic scrape of a laugh.
"Oh? Another fool. We're both super-alloy Digimon. Let's see what you can do."
WarGreymon wasted no words and struck first.
Holy power surged to his claws and he slashed forward.
"Brave Seal!"
Twin golden beams carved dazzling trails through the black water and smashed onto MetalSeadramon's armor.
Then—
A chilling sight.
The sealing strike, strong enough to bind evil, bounced off on impact, leaving only two faint white scratches on the smooth silver shell.
Not even a dent.
"What?!"
Not just WarGreymon—everyone before a screen was stunned.
MetalSeadramon seized the split-second opening. A giant metal pincer shot out, faster than sight, and clamped down on one of WarGreymon's arms.
"Got you, little bug."
The cold verdict fell. Then it heaved, dragging WarGreymon down toward the deeper, darker trench.
"Guh—!"
WarGreymon grunted.
The deeper they went, the more monstrous the pressure became.
Steel-crushing force squeezed from every side, slowing his movements, making even breathing a trial.
From the seams in his armor came the creak of strain.
He was being forced into the hardest fight he had ever faced.
