Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Three Years in Bed

The original owner was bought.

Mr. and Mrs. Pei bought the original owner to raise her as a child bride for Pei Huai.

Earlier, attending elementary school was free, so she went.

Now going to middle school costs money, and the family doesn't have that much money.

Moreover, the original owner is already twelve years old, and in the countryside, she's considered half a laborer.

Even if she can't work in the fields, washing clothes, cooking, cleaning the yard, and feeding pigs are within her capabilities.

So, in the end, the original owner couldn't go to middle school and started working at home.

She didn't say it out loud, but in her heart, she resented the Pei Family.

Angry in her heart, she transformed her grief into an appetite; even eating chaff and wild herbs, she found it tastier and ate more than others.

Maybe because she ate too much, the original owner's strength grew.

The stronger she became, the more work she did, the greater the consumption, and thus she ate more.

It was simply a vicious cycle.

Years passed, and the original owner turned herself from a skinny little girl into a ball from overeating.

Eating wasn't enough; the original owner even snatched food.

What she snatched wasn't from others, but from the male lead's younger siblings.

After snatching, she threatened them not to tell, or she would beat them.

The original owner, burly and strong, with a face full of menace, spoke threateningly, and it was very effective.

One person eating for three, if she didn't make herself into a ball, it would be unjust.

In Jiang Ran's view, the original owner was purely self-destructive, and her image was somewhat unpleasant.

But the Pei Family elders didn't see it that way.

They thought Jiang Ran's wide hips were good for childbirth, her strength for work made her suitable for family life.

After the original owner and the male lead became adults, disregarding his objections, they held a wedding for the two, got a marriage certificate, and even hosted a banquet in the village.

On the wedding night...

Jiang Ran closed her eyes, somewhat unwilling to recall this memory.

Although she was forced to accept this memory, and it wasn't something she did, it was still hard to look at.

Three days after the wedding, the male lead left.

With a bag on his back, he went to the city to attend university.

A month after he left, the original owner discovered she was pregnant.

She wrote to him, but he didn't come back, saying he was busy with school and couldn't take leave.

Not only did he not return then, but he also didn't come back for the New Year.

Nine months later, the original owner gave birth to a big, healthy boy.

This child was the Pei Family's eldest grandson, and the family elders were delighted, treating the original owner even better.

But the original owner changed.

She believed giving birth to the Pei Family's eldest grandson made her a great benefactor; after all the hardships and suffering she endured, she deserved to enjoy life.

Then she began her "postpartum confinement".

Others do it for a month, and those with health issues do it for two months.

But the original owner was different; she lay around for three years.

Every day, apart from eating, drinking, and wandering, she lay in bed.

The Pei Family elders talked to her, but it was useless; she turned a deaf ear.

She neither cared nor asked about the child, leaving everything to the Pei Family elders.

When they were busy working and had no time, it was the male lead's sister who took care of the child.

After having the baby, the original owner stopped working but didn't eat any less.

She ate a lot every day and lay around afterward, and even if she only ate coarse grains, she still gained another round of weight.

Even though the child was already three, her belly still looked as if she were ten months pregnant.

In the original story, after the male lead graduated from college, he finally returned home.

But the purpose of his return was to divorce the original owner.
