Eric stared at her for a long moment. Then he straightened his jacket. He wiped more blood from his face with the back of his hand.
"You're going to regret this," Eric said.
"I doubt it," Hailey replied.
Without another word, he stormed toward the exit. His footsteps echoed angrily on the polished floor.
The main door slammed shut behind him with a resounding bang. The hallway fell silent except for Noah's labored breathing.
The crowd began to disperse slowly, whispering among themselves.
"That was intense," someone muttered.
Walter turned to face Hailey. His expression was stern.
"Hailey," Walter said. His voice carried disappointment along with concern.
Hailey felt tears beginning to form. Not from sadness but from frustration.
The fight had been witnessed by everyone. News would spread throughout the building within hours.
"I'm sorry, Walter," Hailey said. Her voice was barely audible. "I'm really, really sorry."
