Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Impossible to Love You

Selene Kane found herself momentarily speechless.

Only then did she notice a small detail.

Caleb Shaw's right leg was slightly bent; he didn't dare put weight on it.

In other words, he was standing on one leg when he rushed over to save her during her fall.

According to the current interstellar laws, females hold significantly higher social privileges than males.

Not only can they scold the males at will, but they can even resort to hitting without anyone intervening.

Meanwhile, if a female sustains even the slightest injury, the males around her are deemed at fault and may face punishment.

Previously, the original owner had no effective means against these Beast Husbands, so she resorted to extreme self-harm.

As a result, these Beast Husbands would be taken away for investigation by the organization for protecting females.

The original owner had specifically emphasized the need for severe punishment without mercy.

Therefore, Caleb Shaw naturally assumed that Selene Kane was trying to make them suffer using the same strategy again.

His tone softened slightly but remained cold.

"If you're in a bad mood, you can punish me directly."

"But I must tell you honestly, Hayden can't take it anymore."

"You wouldn't want to see your Beast Husband lose his life, especially—"

He paused, his eyes flickering.

"The one you cherish the most."

As he said this, his gaze locked firmly on Selene Kane.

Even though he seemed to be pleading earnestly, there was an indistinct pressure in his demeanor.

"Ha—"

Selene Kane chuckled lightly, slowly propping herself up from the wall.

Even though he was so tall that he towered over her by almost a full head,

she showed no trace of fear on her face.

"Kneel."

Caleb Shaw was taken aback, his brows raised in disbelief as he questioned, "What did you say?"

Did she mean...

For him to kneel?

"I'll say it again."

Selene Kane repeated clearly, enunciating each word.

"Kneel."

According to interstellar civilization's explicit rule, all Beast Husbands must maintain absolute obedience to their Female Master.

A struggle flashed in Caleb Shaw's eyes; his hands clenched into fists, and a creaking sound came from his gloves.

Though Selene Kane appeared calm, she quietly swallowed hard.

His pupils slightly contracted, his chest heaving violently.

Unexpectedly, he slowly bent his knees and knelt.

When his feet touched the ground, the weight caused the floor to tremble slightly.

Caleb Shaw, who was always strong and unwilling to show weakness, displayed an expression that left Selene Kane momentarily dazed.

Seeing this, she couldn't help but feel a hint of confusion.

Why did the original owner choose to harm herself because of unattainable love?

She glanced down at her originally slender and fair wrist.

The wounds there had been completely healed by the system when she awoke.

But the painful memories lingered in her mind.

How heartless the original owner must have been to harm herself so.

Perhaps there was another reason for her actions.

She didn't want her "owned" Beast Husbands to be punished because of her.

She stepped forward, her small foot lightly pressing against Caleb Shaw's thigh, stopping him from trying to stand.

Her fingers entangled in his hair, pulling forcefully to make him look up at her.

"Be good, and I'll give you a child."

It was Caleb Shaw's first time carefully examining this female.

Her appearance hadn't changed much; it was still the familiar face.

But for some reason, in Caleb Shaw's eyes, she exuded a different allure.

He turned his face away, avoiding her gaze, his tone remained icy.

"We've tried so many times, and you've never conceived."

"How many more times do you want to deceive us?"

Suppressing his anger, he spoke coldly.

"It's obvious that you can't have children, afraid to be blamed, but you always say it's our fault, making us unable to hold our heads high in front of others..."

He abruptly stopped speaking.

Even though, traditionally, the blame for infertility often rested on the female.

But they all knew that successfully matching with a female was no easy task.

To protect her, they unanimously claimed to outsiders that the issue lay with the males.

Selene Kane was momentarily stunned by this comment.

Indeed, she already had four Beast Husbands.

If she continued to use this excuse indefinitely, who would believe her?

She lightly patted his face, speaking with a nonchalant tone.

"In the past, I didn't have a child because you didn't follow orders. But now, if you're willing to listen, I can give you one immediately."

Caleb Shaw's expression turned unsightly at her sudden declaration.

"I've never heard of a female having such ability."

He sounded dubious.

Selene Kane withdrew her foot, sneering coldly, her eyes full of disdain.

"Did you know before that I couldn't do it? You're a male, not a female."

"Are you saying you've tried with other females?"

Caleb Shaw blurted out.

Infidelity is a grave accusation for a Beast Husband.

Once proven, not only would he be ostracized by his clan, but he might be prohibited by the organization for protecting females from approaching any female ever again.

Moreover, the Shaw Family, being a reputable Beastman Family, couldn't have their bloodline end with him.

Thinking of this, Caleb Shaw felt a wave of indescribable humiliation.

But even so, he had to suppress these emotions.

"It's all up to the Female Master."

Selene Kane looked him up and down, examining his features.

Though not extraordinarily handsome, his features were well-proportioned and pleasing enough.

Despite his left leg being crippled from an earlier accident.

Judging by his persistent exercising habits.

He had a broad back, a slender waist, and a well-proportioned physique.

If she were to really give him a child, it wouldn't be unacceptable.

She sighed slightly, reaching out to Caleb Shaw as if offering support.

However, Caleb Shaw stared at her for a long while, his face betraying no expression and giving no response to her action.

As Selene Kane saw his lack of reaction, her patience started to wear thin, and her tone quickly turned impatient.

"Get up."

Caleb Shaw shot a cold glance at the hand extended in front of him.

Then, without hesitation, he ignored it, using his hands to prop himself up and slowly get on his feet.

Selene Kane had never truly intended to kindly help him up.

Seeing him refuse, she was ready to withdraw her hand.

Suddenly, an unexpected force slammed into her from the side.

Caught off guard, she staggered.

After barely stabilizing her footing, she turned her head quickly and saw a shorter man than Caleb Shaw standing a short distance away, panting and glaring at her.

"Are you going to hit us?"

He almost gritted his teeth as he questioned.

His neck stiffened, his tone firm.

"Even if you do, we could never fall in love with you."
