Chapter 25 - The first mission

Once Chase sat up on the bed,his belly rumbled. "What have I even eaten?" He muttered, when memories of air filling his stomach surfaced, not a meal in sight for a whole day. "Not a damn thing, that's just my luck."

He quickly put on his gear before heading downstairs. As he was on the stairway coming down, he looked over the railing, seeing two people eating. One in full platemail and the other, in a tattered cloak. But he also noticed something else.

'It's kinda packed in here' from the moment Chase looked down he saw many people at the tables scattered around the place. Some were discussing where they would go, and others walked in, looking a bit roughed up.

But even they found tables, eager to celebrate a mission completed with a drink.

They even crowded in from of the area to select quests. But another *rumble* from his stomach made him quickly go down the stairs, almost jogging to his teams location.

once Chase got there, he sat at one of the four seats available. "What going on?"seeing four plates of eggs and chicken.

Donnie rolled the one eye he had left before replying: "Have at it, I don't even know how you slept that long."

Damian chimed in

"Yeah I got up the instant day broke, this is my second plate. Slow down the food isn't going anywhere!" Chase instantly began vacuuming food into his mouth the moment he knew he could have some, completely ignoring him.

Andrew came out of his room shortly after.

He was in a mask and wore cloves as well as a scarf, with the robe that covered almost every other part of his body. "Oh yeah, we got him some new equipment so that he wouldn't have to wrap his hair around his face all the time" Damian said.

"He got some great sleep, I can tell" Chase said, his stomach finally at ease.

Andrew plopped down, sighing. "Yes I got some okay sleep, but because of my *condition* I basically have to wear a mask everywhere."

"Better than dying." Damian said, shrugging.

Andrew nodded before opting to eat by slightly opening the mask.

——

"Alright, what is the first mission for us?" Chase said eager to begin. "More importantly, who is going to wait in that?" Damian said, pointing at the crowd in the quest area.

"Nobody." Donnie said, sliding a paper out.

The paper read: "goblins are attacking villagers, please help" with a reward of 3 silvers.

"We can do way more" Chase said, uninterested. Damian voiced his opinion "Yeah what are we doing with these?"

Andrew looked from left to right, eager to see what the response was. Donnie began rubbing his temples "I'm fully aware, but because of how desperate we seemed for f rank, coupled with the fact that we have little to no money, we take what we can get."

"If we don't do these, they won't take us seriously enough to hire." Andrew said nodding as if he cared and wasn't just eager to spectate an argument.

"The receptionist already approved it. Thanks by the way" he said waving at her. She smiled, nodding. "Is everyone ready?" Chase asked in a clearly rushed tone. He was tired of being here, he wanted to experience a normal mission and not grueling torment for once in this new world.

Damian shot up, his axes ready in their holsters by his sides. Everyone else got up like normal people. They all stood up and began walking towards the door.

As they got outside, Chase couldn't help but ask, "How long will the walk be this time?" He was already annoyed just thinking About it.

"Walk?" Andrew laughed everyone turned to him. Looking directly at Chase Andrew spoke: "what did I tell you again? The only reason we walked here was because we were kind of suspicious in that area"

Looking at a nearby carriage that was almost full, Andrew walked in front of it. "Excuse me sir" suddenly the horses were stopped by the man driving. He was a burly old man, with a clearly annoyed look on his face.

"You better have a good reason for blocking we boy" the man looked like he was itching to trample him, luckily that wasn't possible.

"Can we use the little space you have left in your caravan to hitch a ride? We'll make it worth your while." He said before pulling out one singular coin.

And even then it stopped the driver in its tracks, for it was a gold. "You bastard, you had money this whole time!?" Donnie said. He spent money on the whole crew, thinking they were broke.

"Hey man, you wanted to be the big spender and I didn't wanna crush your heart."

"So you crush my wallet huh?"

The carriage driver interrupted "get on already, I'll go wherever you like!!"
