Chapter 82 - Chapter 080: The Shapeshifter (2)

The Sports Shed was located at the far end of the school grounds, a dilapidated wooden building used mostly for storing hurdles and vaulting boxes. It smelled of mildew, old sweat, and rust.

Rito skidded to a halt in front of the door. It was locked from the inside.

"Haruna!" Rito shouted, banging his fist against the wood.

A muffled cry came from inside. "R-Rito-kun...!"

"Get away!" A slimy, distorted voice snarled. "Unless you are here to surrender!"

Rito didn't waste time looking for a key. He stepped back, channelled power into his leg muscles, the same legs that had survived the help him dodge him alien attacks before and kicked.

CRACK.

The lock shattered and the door swung open, hitting the wall with a deafening bang.

Rito stepped into the gloom, dust motes dancing in the shaft of sunlight behind him. His eyes adjusted instantly, his eyes sharpening in the low light.

The sight in front of him made his blood boil.

The interior of the shed was a mess of gym mats and poles. In the center, suspended between two vaulting boxes, was Sairenji Haruna.

She wasn't tied with ropes or chains. She was bound by thick, glistening green tentacles that seemed to ooze from the floor itself. They wrapped around her wrists and ankles, pulling her taut.

Her school uniform was in tatters. The slime from the tentacles was acidic enough to weaken the fabric, dissolving her blazer and blouse in patches. Her skirt was torn up the side, revealing her thighs and the edge of her panties. Her shirt was practically transparent, clinging to her skin.

Standing over her, his human disguise melting away to reveal patches of green scales and bulbous eyes, was the "Principal" — Ghi Bree.

"You came, earthling." Ghi Bree hissed, a tentacle extending from his back to caress Haruna's cheek. Haruna flinched, tears streaming down her face.

"Let her go." Rito said. His voice was low, devoid of his usual stutter. It was the voice of a man who was done playing games.

"Not until you renounce the Princess's hand!" Ghi Bree spat. "Break the engagement! Tell the entire galaxy you are unworthy! Or I will..."

The tentacle moved lower, sliding down Haruna's neck, popping the top button of her remaining shirt.

"I will inspect her thoroughly…" Ghi Bree leered. "I will defile your precious 'second female'. Once I touch her, you won't want her anymore, will you? I know that earthlings are very fragile about purity."

Rito looked at Haruna and saw the terror in her eyes. He saw the way she was shaking and her exposed skin, glowing pale in the dark.

His body reacted, a surge of heat, a spike of adrenaline. It wasn't lust. It was rage. Pure, protective, incandescent rage.

"Defile her you say?" Rito repeated and took a step forward.

His eyes flashed gold.

"You think just because you are touching her now, it makes her less mine?" Rito asked, his voice vibrating with a power that made the dust on the floor dance. "You think you can break us with that slime of yours?"

He clenched his right hand and the skin shimmered.

"Haruna isn't a thing you can break." Rito growled. "She's my wife. My partner. And you..."

He disappeared.

In a blur of speed that left Ghi Bree blinking, Rito closed the distance.

"You're dead meat."

Ghi Bree shrieked, his tentacles lashing out in a panic. "Stay back! Or I'll crush her!"

A massive, slime-covered tentacle whipped toward Rito's head, moving faster than a whip.

Without his powers, Rito would have tripped. He would have fallen, accidentally dodging, and maybe pulled a shelf down on the enemy.

But this was the Spoiler Route.

Rito didn't dodge. He raised his right hand.

CLANG.

The tentacle hit his hand and stopped dead, as if it had struck an iron wall.

Rito's hand wasn't skin anymore. It was encased in a Golden Gauntlet — a manifestation of his Trans-Ability. The energy hardened his skin into a protective shell, glowing with a fierce, warm light.

"W-What?!" Ghi Bree gasped. "Trans-Ability?! You're a Transformation Weapon! That's impossible!"

"I'm Yuuki Rito." Rito said.

He gripped the tentacle and squeezed hard.

SQUELCH.

With a sickening sound, he crushed the alien flesh. Ghi Bree howled in pain.

Rito yanked. He pulled the massive alien toward him, off-balance.

"And you don't touch her."

Rito didn't let go. He used his other hand, his human hand, hardened by weeks of training and powered by his new biology, to deliver a punch.

It wasn't a fancy martial arts move. It was a straight, honest haymaker.

BAM.

His fist connected with Ghi Bree's gut. The impact was visceral. It lifted the alien off his feet. Ghi Bree folded in half, spit flying from his mouth, his eyes bulging.

He flew backward, crashing into a stack of vaulting boxes. They toppled over with a thunderous crash, burying him in wood and leather.

The tentacles holding Haruna went limp, dissolving into puddles of green goo and immediately Haruna fell.

"Rito-kun!" she cried out.

Rito was there instantly. He caught her before she hit the ground, scooping her up into his arms.

"I've got you." Rito whispered, holding her tight against his chest. "I've got you, Haruna."

She clung to him, sobbing into his shirt. "I was so scared... he said... he said he would..."

"He won't." Rito promised, stroking her hair. "He's done."

A low, gurgling growl came from the pile of debris.

The boxes shifted. Ghi Bree rose. He was no longer the principal. He had shed his disguise completely. He was expanding, his body swelling, growing spikes and extra limbs.

"You..." Ghi Bree roared, his voice deepening into a monstrous bellow. "YOU DARE STRIKE A SUITOR OF DEVILUKE?! I WILL SHOW YOU MY TRUE POWER! I WILL BECOME YOUR NIGHTMARE!"

He towered over them, a ten-foot blob of muscle and slime.

Rito didn't flinch nor did he step back. He gently set Haruna down behind him, shielding her.

He looked up at the monster. His golden eyes flared brighter, casting long shadows in the shed. The air around him warped with the density of his aura — the "Golden King Aura" he had earned.

"True power?" Rito asked calmly.

He raised his Golden Gauntlet.

"Bring it on."

Ghi Bree roared, a sound that shook the dust from the rafters. His monstrous form filled the shed, a towering mass of green muscle, spikes, and dripping slime. He looked terrifying. He looked invincible.

He swung a massive, spiked fist at Rito.

"DIE!"

Rito didn't move. He didn't raise his guard. He just... stared.

His golden eyes burned with an intensity that cut through the gloom. It wasn't just confidence; it was a predator's gaze. It was the look of a King facing a jester.

The sheer pressure of his aura slammed into Ghi Bree mid-swing.

The alien froze. His fist stopped inches from Rito's face. He trembled. The power of Darkness Rito had absorbed wasn't just physical strength; it was killing intent refined into pure dominance.

"Eep?" Ghi Bree squeaked.

"You're not scary or strong." Rito said, his voice quiet but echoing in the silence. "You're just loud, and annoying."

Rito took one step forward.

"And you made my wife cry."

The pressure spiked.

Ghi Bree's concentration shattered. His monstrous form rippled, destabilizing under the weight of his own fear.

POP.

With a sound like a deflating balloon, the ten-foot monster vanished.

In its place, standing in a pile of oversized clothes, was a tiny, knee-high green blob with spindly arms and big, watery eyes. This was his true form, a weak, pathetic shapeshifter who relied on bluffs.

"I... I surrender!" Ghi Bree wailed, raising his tiny hands. "Please don't hurt me! I'm fragile!"

Rito sighed, the gold fading from his eyes as his gauntlet dissolved back into skin. "Get out of here. Before I change my mind."

"Yes! Yes! Leaving now!"

ZWOOP.

A portal opened in the ceiling of the shed. But it wasn't Ghi Bree's escape route.

Three angry-looking alien women, one with scales, one with fur, and one with tentacles, dropped down.

"FOUND YOU!" the scale-woman shouted. "You cheating slimeball! You said you were going for milk!"

"Darlings!" Ghi Bree paled. "I can explain!"

"You're coming home!" the fur-woman growled, grabbing him by the ear.

They dragged him upward into the portal, his screams fading as they vanished back into space.

Silence returned to the shed.

Rito stood there for a moment, letting the adrenaline fade. Then, he turned around.

Haruna was leaning against the vaulting box, shivering. Her clothes were ruined. Her shirt hung open, exposing her pale chest and the lace of her bra. Her skirt was torn. She looked fragile, beautiful, and safe.

"Rito-kun..." she whispered.

Rito walked over to her. He didn't say anything. He took off his school blazer, which had miraculously survived the fight, and wrapped it around her shoulders. He pulled it tight, covering her exposed skin.

"It's over." Rito said softly. "He's gone."

Haruna looked up at him. Her eyes were swimming with tears, but they weren't tears of fear anymore. They were tears of relief and overwhelming affection.

"You saved me." she sobbed, throwing her arms around his waist. She buried her face in his shirt. "I was so scared... but you came... you really came..."

Rito held her. He rested his chin on her head, stroking her hair. The scent of her, fear fading into the sweet smell of vanilla, filled his nose. He reacted, not with lust, but with a deep, fierce protectiveness.

"I'll always come." Rito promised. "I told you that I'll protect you. I'm not going anywhere."

Haruna pulled back slightly and looked at his face. She saw the smudge of dirt on his cheek, the determination in his eyes.

"My hero..." she whispered.

She leaned up and kissed him.

It was a soft, salty kiss, tasting of tears and victory. Rito kissed her back, his hands holding her waist, grounding her.

As they kissed, a soft light bloomed between them.

Beneath her ruined uniform, on her lower abdomen, the Third Golden Heart Seal pulsed brightly. It throbbed in time with her heartbeat, reacting to the surge of love and safety she felt. It wasn't just a mark of ownership; it was a mark of protection.

Haruna felt it. She broke the kiss, looking down.

"It's warm." she murmured, pressing her hand over the seal through Rito's blazer. "It feels like you're holding me."

"I am." Rito said.

"Rito! Haruna-chan!"

Suddenly, the shed door flew open again. Lala stood there, panting, with Saruyama behind her.

"We heard a noise! Are you okay?!"

Lala scanned the room; she quickly noticed the wrecked equipment and the slime. But when she saw Rito holding Haruna, his jacket wrapped around her. Her face softened into a look of immense relief.

"Something happened and you saved her!" Lala cheered, running over to hug them both. "I knew you could do it, Rito! You're the strongest!"

"We're okay, Lala." Rito smiled, patting Lala's head while keeping one arm around Haruna.

"Is the alien gone?" Saruyama asked, peeking in nervously.

"Yeah. His wives came for him." Rito explained.

"Wives… as in plural?" Saruyama slumped. "Even monsters have wives. This universe is truly unfair."

Rito chuckled. "Let's go home. I think we've had enough excitement for one day."

He helped Haruna walk out of the shed, supporting her weight. As they walked back toward the school building, bathing in the afternoon sun, Rito paused and frowned.

"Wait," Rito said. "Didn't Ghi Bree disguise himself as the principal?"

"The alien? Yeah, he did." Saruyama nodded.

"So... where is the real principal?"

Meanwhile, in a supply closet, the principal was still waiting for help.

"Moshi moshi…"

"Are you guys from the drama club using me in one of your scenes?"

"If so, then can you at least tell me my role?"

"Is anyone there?"
