Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Awakened

The demon.

They are a race of supernatural entities that feed on humanity's fear and negative emotions toward them, in the manga Chainsaw Man.

Normally, demons are beings born from humanity's collective fear of specific concepts.

Benimaru was not born in the hell dimension in the traditional way.

This situation was created because of the poll and the absence of a real hell in this reality.

Apart from that, all demons are born with a "name" that corresponds to a concept.

These concepts can be very concrete, like Fish or Tomato, or more abstract: Future and Curse.

The concept associated with a demon's name doesn't need to refer to something that exists, since nothing indicates that ghosts, zombies, or angels really exist.

Yet, there are demons with those names.

'The more people fear a demon, the stronger it becomes,' he thought as he entered his room.

Benimaru has felt very strong since recovering his memories.

This phenomenon intensifies every time the servants look at his horns or fangs.

That's why he never really tried to improve his reputation within the Kamo clan.

He had every interest in being feared rather than liked.

'However, I still don't know if I can awaken the Kamo clan's innate cursed technique: Blood Manipulation,' this idea brought a self-mocking smile to his face.

Benimaru never doubted he could become a sorcerer; it's just that the cursed techniques inherited from the three great clans weren't so easy to awaken.

He didn't know what his own cursed technique would be, especially since he hadn't yet awakened his cursed energy.

"The ideal would be for me to awaken Blood Manipulation. Otherwise, there's nothing to be done," he said in a self-deprecating tone.

The awakening of cursed energy and an innate Cursed Technique happens at its own pace.

The first occurs around 4 to 6 years old, but the second depends on several factors.

If Benimaru only awakened as an adult, he would undoubtedly miss many early opportunities.

In the end, he would be at a disadvantage and a bit lost in terms of supernatural pedagogy.

A situation similar to Yuji Itadori's.

Perhaps fate had heard his mental prayers, because Benimaru suddenly felt something awakening within him.

It wasn't the sensation of strength he felt due to others' fear of him.

It was different, and somewhat related.

The sensation of strength he was used to feeling was stimulating something inside him.

At that moment, Benimaru decided to sit cross-legged and began to meditate.

Thanks to a friend from his previous life, he had taken yoga classes, which gave him good mastery of the art of breathing and concentration.

The boy slowly adjusted his breath, adopting a regular and deep rhythm, enough to intensify the unknown sensation rising within him.

The silver light of the full moon illuminated Benimaru through his bedroom window, enveloping him in a mysterious and solemn aura.

The young boy immersed himself wholeheartedly in meditation, gradually entering a deep state.

In the mental world, Benimaru seemed to be walking through endless darkness.

All around him reigned only silence, and the sound of his footsteps echoed strangely loud.

He walked calmly until he spotted two groups of warm and familiar lights, though he was certain he had never seen them before.

The clusters of light emitted a strangely familiar aura, giving him a deep sense of closeness. The boy couldn't help but compare this feeling to that of distant parents reuniting by chance after many years.

However, just as he was about to touch one of the light clusters, he noticed another cluster even more dazzling, farther away.

Without the shadow of a hesitation, Benimaru bypassed the two groups of light in front of him and headed toward the most distant one.

After a long journey on foot, Benimaru finally reached this light cluster.

Upon closer inspection, this light was a vivid red. Involuntarily, he thought of the scarlet hue of fresh blood while observing it.

Yet, this redness inspired no terror in Benimaru; on the contrary, it exuded an ancient and pleasant aura.

Benimaru's demonic nature was deeply attracted to this aura, and he couldn't help but take a step forward.

Thus, he plunged into the cluster of red light.

At that instant, his world was engulfed in a scarlet glow, and his consciousness gradually blurred.

Upon waking, he found himself lying on his bed.

'A servant probably put me here,' thought Benimaru, adjusting his position to be more comfortable.

Morning light was already filtering through the room, revealing how taxing his mystical experience had been on his young body.

'It seems she didn't discover my awakening as a sorcerer,' he thought while observing the aura faintly emanating from his hand.

After weighing the pros and cons, Benimaru decided to reveal on his own that he had awakened his innate cursed technique: Blood Manipulation.

Although this exposure might carry some dangers, they seemed insignificant compared to the advantages it would bring to his existence within the Kamo clan.

As Benimaru expected, the Kamo clan had mixed reactions to the news of his awakening to their family's signature cursed technique.

Benimaru's father was the most impacted, being the first to reject him at birth.

The Jujutsu world is a strange place, governed by the law of the strongest, but also by tradition and superstition.

The birth of twins is very poorly perceived there; so, the birth of a deformed child?

That's why Masaki Kamo had considered Benimaru's birth as a bad omen.

Yet, he now discovers that the child once rejected is the only one legitimate for the title of clan heir at present.

'Was I too hasty in my decision? No matter, this boy must certainly harbor resentment toward me and the clan by now,' thought the clan head, striking a pensive pose, before scrutinizing the face of each elder present at the meeting.

"*Sigh*… I've just made my decision: my youngest son will now be the clan heir." The patriarch's words caused several murmurs and protests among the clan elders.

The patriarch's words provoked several murmurs and protests among the clan elders.

The progressive faction agreed, but the conservative faction was divided.

Benimaru had to be the current heir, since he was the only one possessing the cursed technique of Blood Manipulation.

All the other children of the patriarch lacked it.

"Stop your disputes! I've already made my decision. Have you forgotten the state of the jujutsu world? The Gojo clan is gaining more and more influence," declared Masaki in a solemn tone.

"If the kid brings shame to our clan, nothing will stop us from stripping him of his status and bringing him back to his original place," added the patriarch after noticing some reluctance.

The sentence was pronounced and final.
