--------------------------------

Facts proved that the person who truly walked a narrow path was Aoha himself.

Though Mikawa-jonin paid for the latter ten skewers of three-colour dango, compared to the saved eighty ryo, the black-faced Mikawa-jonin was definitely more terrifying!

After being carried all the way home, Mikawa-jonin slammed the door shut with a bang, then pulled out his great treasure and slapped it down on the table with a thud.

Aoha silently swallowed, looking at the kunai on the table while forcing a dry laugh: "Can't we talk nicely? Why resort to weapons?"

"What did I tell you before I left? Hm? Just one day passed and you caused such enormous trouble. How do you expect me to explain this to Hokage-sama!"

Mikawa grabbed the kunai from the table with his backhand. Getting angrier as he spoke, he directly stabbed through the table, making Aoha's heart ache. If this table got broken, he had no money to buy a new one!

"Misunderstanding, all misunderstandings! Besides, how could Hokage-sama fuss with a small child like me? I promise! There won't be a next time!"

When it was time to act cowardly, one had to admit defeat. Aoha didn't think his small frame after activating [Hardening] could block the kunai in Mikawa's hand. At least LV1 skill definitely wasn't enough.

Obviously, Aoha's shameless thick skin made the muscles on Mikawa's face twitch repeatedly, yet he couldn't actually bully a small child.

But the Third still needed an explanation.

"Hmph! If not for Hokage-sama's broad mind, do you think you'd have the chance to go out and eat dango? More like eating prison food!"

"Tomorrow, come with me to apologise to Hokage-sama!"

Hearing this, Aoha obviously relaxed. Just apologising, no skin off his back. Easy!

But before he could feel happy, Mikawa's next sentence made him unable to rejoice.

"Additionally, given that you caused such huge trouble this time, next month's relief funds are cut in half. If you don't want to starve, stay home obediently!"

"If there's a next time, even if Hokage-sama spares you, I'll slap you to death!"

After finishing, Mikawa snorted coldly, yanked out the kunai, turned and left, completely ignoring Aoha's mournful face.

Apologising in person wasn't much, at most wasting some time. But relief funds being cut in half really hurt. How could he live on one thousand ryo per month? Should he learn from future Naruto, eating instant ramen daily and drinking expired milk?

However, the good news was that, counting the thousand ryo Mikawa-jonin initially gave him, plus this month already passed many days, if he spent carefully, he wouldn't starve.

Mikawa probably calculated this point before making such a punishment. Heh, turns out he had a tsundere personality.

Moreover, if worst came to worst, when Itachi came looking for him, he could still mooch off the rich. The dignified Uchiha clan surely wouldn't fuss over a few thousand ryo of pocket change, right?

Thinking this, Aoha's mood improved again, preparing to consider what to eat for dinner tonight. Typically, forgetting pain after the beating healed.

On the other side, the Third and Fourth were still transferring work at this moment, conveniently guiding Minato, the new Hokage, continuing to shine for Konoha.

When Minato saw documents piled mountain-high on the desk waiting for processing, he was completely dumbfounded.

Retreat drums began frantically beating in his heart!

"Are these all of them?"

"Of course not! What's here is only the highest priority, most urgent portion needing processing first. After you finish these, specialised assistants will organise the rest and bring them over."

Sarutobi smiled very kindly, looking just like a kind, approachable old grandfather.

However, hearing this answer, Minato painfully pulled his hair, wishing he could abdicate immediately!

How was he supposed to know Hokage work was this damn much!!

Meanwhile, Sarutobi smiled knowingly. Hehe, you think why I aged so fast? Now it's time to let you youngsters experience this pain too. One after another clamoured to become Hokage. Did you really think being Hokage was so easy!

Just then, a knock sounded.

"Come in," Minato called out weakly.

Mikawa, who originally entered, wanted to first greet the newly appointed Fourth, but after standing on tiptoes looking for a while, he couldn't see past the mountain-high documents to the Minato-sama sitting behind. This made him quite embarrassed.

"Oh, it's Mikawa. What, came to inspect the Hokage's work? Hehe, you've really worked hard," the Third immediately revealed his identity as an old master of passive-aggressiveness. His sarcastic words instantly made Mikawa's face flush red.

"I'm sorry, Sarutobi-sama! I've already severely disciplined that troublemaker Aoha and even cut next month's living expenses in half. He already knows his mistake. Tomorrow I'll bring him to apologise to Minato-sama."

"That's the future Fifth Hokage. You must educate him well. If that brat can't become Hokage in the future, your crime will be great."

The Third actually wasn't angry at all. Having lived most of his life, he wouldn't genuinely fuss with a small brat.

Meanwhile, the teased Mikawa stood there woodenly, stammering, unable to speak.

Not a bit of humour. Sarutobi only felt his twilight years might not be as wonderful as imagined.

Just then, Minato finally emerged from behind the office desk, curiously asking: "Mikawa-jonin, is that child yours?"

Mikawa didn't answer directly but instinctively looked toward the already-retired Third with a troubled expression.

"Answer whatever you're asked. I'm just an old geezer now. Who's Hokage, you need to figure out clearly."

After being mildly rebuked by the Third, Mikawa even broke into a cold sweat. He hurriedly explained matters regarding Aoha and their relationship.

Finally, seeing Minato-sama still wear a smile without getting angry over his disrespectful behaviour, he barely relaxed.

Mikawa swore he absolutely hadn't intended disrespect toward Minato-sama and very much recognised Minato-sama's Hokage identity. Just his subconscious actions earlier were truly too inappropriate. If it were someone petty, they'd probably hold grudges for a long time.

This is damned bad luck.

"I see. However, I haven't taken this matter to heart. Don't punish him anymore, either. Apologies aren't necessary. Additionally, I just assumed the Hokage position. There's still much I don't understand. I need outstanding talents like you by my side to help me. So please guide me well from now on, Mikawa-jonin."
