Chapter 2 - Ace

I open my eyes to the purple asthetic of the galaxy portrayed on the ceiling. I yawn and jump out of bed and race to my closet to find the perfect outfit for today. It's the biggest day of my life (Besides my birth) and I have to look the part. Eventually I decide on a sleeveless white dress that comes just above my knees. I pair the dress white leggings and complete the look with a white bow in my honey brown hair that goes to the middle of my back and a pair of white heels. All the white makes me look pure, which is the look I was going for. After doing my makeup and grabbing my purse, I walk downstairs to try and find my parents. I smile at all the servants passing, nodding my head in acknowledgement as they smile back at me. I was always admired by the servants, but that's no different from everyone else. Being the daughter of the most powerful family in this super human society, everyone expects me to be perfect and pure. That means always following the rules and not having a hair out of place.

When I was a toddler, instead of playing with dolls I learned how to do my hair, what fashion trends were in or out, and what color suited me best. When I got to middle school the boys drooled all over me. But my father has made his rules very clear, no kissing until marriage. So here I am, at 24 still living with my parents and never been kissed. Ever. It's not like I mind it, my parents are the best when we spend time together. But they want what's best for me, like having the most perfect husband. Which is why in 4 months I am to marry James, a handsome man I will admit. And powerful, which is why he was picked for me. I don't have the heart to tell my parents the man they hand chose for me isn't my type. But how could anyone love someone as controlling as James?

From how to wear my hair to who I can be friends with, James is there to dictate it all. He has my location at all times and I'm not allowed to speak unless he gives me permission. So, in a nutshell? Time with him is like being tortured. But there's nothing I can do about it. As I walk in the sitting area of our house I see my father and James sitting on the sofa, a glass of tea in both their hands.

"Hello father. James." I greet them, a smile on my face. Not even James can ruin today. Today is the day my power gets revealed. Theoretically, I should get shapeshifting like my mother or time manipulation like my father. But there are possibilities I could get other abilities. My father tips his head, letting me know I may sit down beside James on the sofa. As I do so, I see James eyeing my outfit. I don't care what he says, I'm not changing. This outfit is too perfect to not wear. I smile at my father, placing my purse and phone on the coffee table in front of the sofa and wait for him to speak.

"I expect you to be on your best behavior today Acealine. This is a very important day for the family and you must not embarrass us." My father said as he eyed me through his reading glasses. I nodded and looked at James for permission to speak. No point in fighting today. He nodded his head and I spoke, my enthusiasm potent in my voice as I spoke.

"Of course father, I will make you proud."

Before my father could respond, my mother came walking into the sitting room. Out of us all, my mother was always the most stunning. Her hair was honey brown like mine, flowing to the bottom of her back. Her eyes were a little darker than mine, but still a beautiful blue. Her skin was a nice olive color, just a shade darker than my own. She aged so gracefully that people often mistake us for twins.

"Ciao mio piccolo fiore." she said as she kissed my forehead, speaking in Italian. I smiled at my kind and gentle mother, taking in the aroma of her honeysuckle perfume.

"Ciao mother. Are you excited for today?" I asked as I stood up to allow her to sit down. She takes a seat and looks at me, her eyes gazing lovingly into mine.

"Yes my dear. I am quite excited to see what ability you get. Though I do hope you get an ability you enjoy." She said, nodding her head. I smiled again, opening my mouth to speak when I remembered James. He was fuming beside me, his anger seeable through his eyes. I winced, and nodded back at my mother, silently telling her we would talk later. I glanced at James, hoping he wasn't too angry at me. His eyes told me I was in for a treat when I got home. Well, i'm already in the doghouse, might as well enjoy having some freedom.

"Father, may I request that I ride with June today."

June is my personal servant, and my best friend. I made it through all of my constant lessons because she is the best teacher. Father sighs but nods reluctantly. I grin like I'm the Cheshire cat and race to tell her. June is in the kitchen, making the feast for the celebration later.

"June! June!" I exclaim as I burst in the kitchen, my heels clicking against the marble floor.

"Yes my lady?" She asks, though I don't understand her need to always be formal.

"Father said you can drive me to the town hall!" I exclaim, bursting with excitement. June laughs at my enthusiasm and nods.

"Well then I must get ready. We have to be there by 10, and it's already 8:30."

June says as she wipes her hands on her apron and walks to the servants quarters. After 30 minutes, she walks back out in a royal blue dress that comes just above her ankles. We rush to the car and race down the street. It took 25 minutes to get to town hall from the mansion, so we were right on time. I kiss June on the cheek and walk to the line of people discovering their powers, just like me. I'm basically jumping with nervousness when they call my name.

I walk to the podium, taking a deep breath. I place my hand on the scanner and let it scan me. Then my whole world turned upside down. "Error" popped up everywhere on the screen where my power was supposed to be displayed. I looked at my parents who both wore a shocked look on their faces. Suddenly I was whisked away by people in black body suits and masks that cover their faces. I get drugged out the main hall and thrown into a dark room. I look around, barely able to see my hand in front of my face. After what seemed like hours, my father came, anger surrounding him like a cloud, and grabbed me by my arm, dragging me to the car. He threw me into the backseat, slamming the door.

Mother sat beside me, silently holding me as father got in the driver seat and drove away so fast it made me dizzy. When we got to our estate, father said nothing, just stormed into the mansion and locked himself into his study. I hugged my mother, and walked into my room to sob. Was I powerless? How could I, the daughter of the most powerful family ever, be powerless? How could God be this cruel…?
