Caleb's POV
The tears hit me like a sucker punch. One moment Jessica was pressed against my chest, trying to steady her breathing, and the next she was making this strangled sound that cut straight through me.
My first thought was panic. Had I hurt her? Been too aggressive? My hands shot to her face, questions forming on my lips, but when I looked at her, every word vanished.
She was completely undone. Tears streamed down her cheeks in torrents, her shoulders shaking with each sob that tore from her throat. Her whole body trembled like she was breaking apart from the inside out.
I stared at her, my pulse hammering against my ribs. What the hell was I supposed to do? I'd never dealt with anything like this before. How do you fix someone when they're falling to pieces in your arms?
She collapsed against my shoulder, her cries echoing in my head. Her arms wound around my neck, soaking my shirt with her tears while her body shook against mine.
