Cornelia's POV

I stared at David in disbelief. "But that's impossible. A man lives next door to me."

A satisfied smirk played across his lips. "Not anymore he doesn't."

My eyes narrowed as suspicion crept in. "What exactly did you do?"

"I simply presented him with a generous offer. Better living arrangements, plus enough cash to make it worth his while. He was packed and gone before sunset."

Silence stretched between us as I processed his words. His dark eyes never left mine, studying every detail of my face with an intensity that made my skin burn. The way he looked at me like he was memorizing every freckle, every curve of my lips.

My voice came out barely above a whisper. "Why would you do all of this, David?"

His throat worked as he swallowed hard, his entire body going rigid. He started to speak, stopped, then tried again. When the words finally came, they hit me like a physical blow. "Everything I do is for you. Every single damn thing, Cornelia."
